The bread. The pizza crust. The freshness here. Always a wait unless you go at very off peak time. Wait is worth it. I always order a loaf of bread to take home the moment I arrive. Sadly sometimes they are so busy, the don’t have a loaf to share. Every item on the menu is yummy and fresh from the salads, the side of vegetables, the meatballs and of course the pizzas. No desserts but I guess Arturo’s believes they should stay focused on what they do really well– fresh food and pizza. Plus the own of maplewood is filled with other restaurants for dessert and the able baker up the street too.

You have to fly to Naples for better pizza! The service is always fast and friendly. The specials always include some type of farm to table roasted vegetables which are delicious. The crostini with ricotta are the best. Has to be the grilled bread and Black Sea salt. Try to avoid evenings on weekends. You will have a long wait. Otherwise, I love this place!

One of the best and my favorite pizza/Italian place around the area. I’ve been to Arturo’s many times and have tried a good number of items on the menu. Some standouts for me: –Wild Mushroom Ravioli: If you have a love for anything truffle oil, this is a MUSTTRY. –Pizzas: I love their seasonal pies(specials) but you can’t go wrong with any pizza. The crust is one of my favorites — crispy and chewy. Their pizzas aren’t overloaded with toppings but it isn’t necessary since the pizza crust and ingredients themselves are so rich in flavors. They do let you split pies so make sure you do in order to try different pizzas! –Gorgonzola & Pine Nut Salad: The gorgonzola & pine nut salad was delicious — light & flavorful. However, like the pizzas, you really can’t go wrong with any salad. Their greens are exceptionally fresh… even their side salad is delicious. Service is always great. Ingredients are always fresh and sourced from local farms. Extra points for BYOB. The restaurant is usually busy so expect a wait(especially weekends and dinnertime). If you are a small party, the communal table will get you seated sooner.

Nice place though overcrowded on a Friday night which makes it hard to park. I’ve been living in nj for just two weeks but so far it’s one of the rare places that I’ve seen people smile. Good customer service was refreshing why are people so rude? the pizza was also delicious so I recommend this place. Ps: order to go is a better idea i think especially during the weekend around 7:00pm

Who doesn’t love a good pizza? Growing up in Southern California in the 70’s, pizza was just something we usually had when the parents were having«date night» and needed to feed us kids something without the ordeal of cooking. Pizza was also something we enjoyed after beating the rival town’s Little League baseball team. I still have fond memories of gathering at the local pizza parlor accompanied by seemingly endless pitchers of Coca-Cola. We’d always order our favorite, a simple cheese pizza with pepperoni. No grated Parmesan, oregano, arugula, goat cheese or sun dried tomatoes, just a simple blend of processed cheese and overly salty, cured pork made by high school students earning minimum wage. Back then it was yummy. Today, well, not so much. In college, pizza was considered one of the five food groups. You could live on pizza and beer, not giving a thought to what would happen to your body by the time you were a senior. NOPAIN… NOPAIN was the mantra of the day; it was dinner and often times, breakfast the next day. So was the beer. Life was good. Today, there’s a wood fired, brick oven, gourmet pizzeria on every street corner offering countless numbers of toppings from imported Italian sausage to Korean kimchi. Who would have ordered a gluten-free pizza 40 years ago? Did we even know what gluten was back then? I certainly didn’t. After having lived in two of the greatest pizza meccas in America, Boston and New York City(then moving to Short Hills), I thought my pizza adventures were over and relegated to clipping Domino’s coupons for a free two-liter soda with my delivery. Then I discovered a tiny restaurant that wouldn’t take any reservations, didn’t have a liquor license but served an amazing pie. It’s the best 20 bucks I ever spent. Arturo’s Osteria and Pizzeria is a perennial favorite in downtown Maplewood, and now I know why. They bring that, oh so, perfect combination of salty and sweet ingredients, lathering it over a toothsome crust. I ordered a large(don’t you dare get the individual portion, remember there’s breakfast tomorrow!) Margherita with sopressata and peppers. In a word, yum. Topped with hand-made mozzarella, sea salt from Oregon, basil, and California olive oil, you could taste the freshness and the smoky charred flavor of the wood that created this perfect bite. Perhaps the flavor comes from the en vogue locally sourced, organic farms and/or the care in which the kitchen bakes this ancient delight. Regardless, they’ve discovered the perfect recipe that brings this Central and Southern Italian staple to another level. Pizza was first documented in 997AD in Gaeta, Italy. The precursor of pizza was the focaccia, where toppings were added, in particular, with innovations like the use of the humble tomato, which was brought to Europe by way of the Americas. The first reference to «pizza» in the US was in Boston, then spread to Chicago, then to New York, by two chaps from Naples, Italy. Other than pizza, they do a brilliant salad and they even bake their own bread. The service is spot on, with a friendly and very knowledgeable wait staff. Not being too keen on the communal table at the time, which is generally available if you’re in a rush, I waited about 15 minutes for a private table. Remember, no reservations are taken(it’s BYOB, don’t forget your beverages!)

I hate to commit myself to ever saying«this is my favorite ever,» but I have to come awfully close to saying this is my favorite pizza ever. It pains me to say this so soon after giving Lucali a stellar review. I still think the calzone there was second to none. In any event, this place is a tiny corner building in downtown Maplewood. You can actually part on the street here. Like Lucali, it is BYOB, but they have pop here. The pizza was truly delectable. The crust was both chewy and crisp… and full of air bubbles that I like from my childhood eating hillbilly pizza in Indiana(it’s a real thing, see, e.g., Pizza King). The cheese here was also super gooey… so even though there wasn’t much of it on the pizza, a little went a long way. I had the«santo» which had caramelized onions and fennel sausage. The sausage was super juicy and flavorful, and the seasoning really put this pizza over the top. I would go out of my way to come back here again.

Farm to table pizzeria. Their ingredients are super fresh. You can definitely tell they take pride in the quality of their ingredients. There is parking right outside the restaurant which is usually full however pull behind the place and you will find another lot. If you’re going to sit and eat, they do takeout too, expect to wait. They don’t take reservations. Worth the wait. When you go get the farmers salad, the pasta with the wild boar and truffle oil, and a pizza of your choice. The chickpea app is also amazing. Definitely not the healthiest meal but if you’re looking for a quality«cheat» you ABSOLUTELY have to got to Arturo’s!

Believe all of the Unilocal hype because it is true! My friend and I were looking on Unilocal for a new restaurant to try out and we stumbled upon Arturo’s. It is a cute little restaurant with seating inside and outside. The place was packed when we arrived and we had about a 20 minute wait. The wait wasn’t that bad, and it was probably a bit shorter than 20 minutes. We sat at a two top inside. The atmosphere is very cute and our waitress /bus staff were very nice and attentive. Even though it was super crowded the staff seemed very calm and had everything under control. My friend and I ordered two individual pizza’s. She had the Margherita pizza and I had the Tartufi pizza. Both were delicious! The Tartufi came with sausage, mushroom, and white truffle oil and it was to die for! The sausage really stood out with such an excellent flavor and you could smell the truffle oil as they placed it in front of you. The pizza crust was perfect and slightly burnt which gave it that extra flavor of deliciousness. We were debating on whether to order a salad or not and I’m glad we didn’t since the individual pizza’s were a pretty decent size. The salad’s they were bringing out were big as well, but looked delicious as well. Next time we go we decided we’ll order an individual pizza and a salad to share. I can’t wait! Arturo’s is BYOB so that saves you some money on the check. It’s really a great place to grab a pizza at a good price. I’ll definitely be back soon!
