Pins & Needles is the cutest darn store on the UES. There, I said it. Store is on the second floor, don’t miss it! There’s a fantastic selection of fabric, including my fav — cotton & steel. There was great selections for embroidery, cross stitch and other fabric disciplines as well. Recently expanded into the space across the way, so there’s a shop and a studio. The owner, Rachel, offers classes for kids to adults and everywhere in between. The store is bright and clean, I could honestly have spent a lot of time and money there if I didn’t pull myself away. She had scrap bags, fat quarters and will cut as small as a ¼ yard of fabric. Check this place out!

got a private sewing lesson and i can say it was soooo awesome! Hilary was my instructor and she has tons of sewing experience. I didn’t know anything about a sewing machine before I came here. I left with a ton of beginner information and enough for me to do simple projects on my own :). The energy is upbeat and the staff is so helpful. I highly recommend this place!

I stumbled upon this awesome shop thanks to Unilocal! The owner is very helpful and kind! Great selection of fabric and other crafting supplies. She had everything I needed to make a hand sewn cloud mobile for a baby gift! Thrilled to get started!

There should be more places like this in the city! Not only does P&N offer an amazing and well-curated selection of sewing/crafting/fabric supplies(hard to find these days), it is truly touching to see them cater to young budding fashion designers. This place is a real find!

Adorable, adorable store and friendly owner. Great selection of fun, graphic cotton fabric, seemingly geared mostly towards clothesmaking. This store has a great selection of books and even a lot of projects for children. I definitely want to come back and go through the patterns here– Collette, as well as some other indie options. It seems like they also have classroom space. Hip, well-curated, and a nice little find in the Upper East Side– if you like to sew and are looking for a friendlier environment than the Garment District, this place is recommended.

Very friendly and helpful! Didn’t have a lot of selection, but found some fabric I ‘needed’ for a quilt. Good quality supplies.

We stopped by Pins & Needles while on a trip to NYC last week. The shop is upstairs and there was a sandwich board sign at the street. The shop is adorable and well decorated with a nice selection on modern fabrics. There was a kids class going on while we were shopping and the girls were having a great time and talking about all the things they were going to make during the shop’s summer camp! Rachel(the owner) was super friendly, inspiring and helpful. I definitely recommend you check out!

I came here for the first time after a long hiatus from crafting/sewing and i felt immediatly at ease and inspired. Great sewing, crafting supplies and a fabric collection that makes me swoon. Come in with an idea and the shopkeepers will help you pick the right materials, when you come back(and you will come back) they will remember you and ask you how your project turned out… Where else can you get this type of treatment in nyc? The shop is not intimidating at all and you will be inspired to finish a design or pick up a new craft. Novice or expert this shop will fit your needs.

I stopped in to buy some supplies to make little felted christmas ornaments. If you can’t find it at first, look up! The shop is on the second floor. The Shopkeeper was very helpful and very friendly, and has an adorable little dog too! The best part is its on the way to the 6 train. I only wish they were open a little later one night a week so I could pick up more cute crafty things on the way home from work!

I recently visited several fabric/quilt stores in Manhattan and Pins & Needles was my favorite. The selection is not huge but it is an adorable shop with wonderful service. Rachel, the owner, couldn’t have been more helpful — truly the best customer service I experienced in all of the 10 or so fabric shops I visited. There is a lovely section of modern quilt fabrics and some nice Liberty of London cotton prints. The store also carries notions, books & patterns. There were some happy girls taking a class while I was there and it looked like fun. I highly recommend supporting this wonderful small business.

Fantastic! I’m not an expert embroider but went in there with a project idea a few weeks ago. The two women working were insanely helpful, showing me useful books, walking me through fabric options, helping me pick good colors, encouraging me about my idea. I went in right before they closed and they told me not to worry, to take my time. Will definitely go back for my next project.

Is love too strong a word to use? I think not. My experience here has been amazing, from the ladies present offering encouragement, tips, and wisdom, to the little dog Molly, who sometimes comes to work with her mom(business owner). I went into this place on a whim, project in mind, with no clue how to execute my ideas(I’m over a decade out of practice). I was greeted with enthusiasm and open minds, allowed to browse to my hearts content, and kindly directed towards things that would make my project easier for me to do as well as just look better. It came out awesome, and when I finished it I took it by to show the owner(per her request). She gave me lots of praise and even took a picture, which was WAY flattering. Thanks to her, I’m going to have sewig be a regular part of my life! Can’t wait to go back. Price is high-ish, but so is the quality, and it’s a local business totally worth supporting.
