New York apartments? Never simple. Odd shaped rooms, creaky mod cons, dicey neighborhoods, food deserts, and excruciating characters next door. Unless, of course, you live here. Fast elevators, superb door staff, service laundry and garage in the building, workable rooms, decently quiet and everything works. It’s not a «name» neighborhood, so it makes a pleasant surprise to discover many delights. Amish Market around the corner, the Grand Central Market two blocks away, and a Federated a mere stone’s throw from the front door. I clocked the Mee Noodle shop delivery at six minutes from hanging up the phone to ringing the bell. Grand Central Station is the nearest subway; you can’t get much better than that. Ditto the airport limos that leave from there. And the UN around the corner makes this a diplomatic neighborhood, with interesting sorts hanging out at local watering holes – my fave was the Manchester Pub on 2nd Avenue, where the barmaid had me convinced we were engaged for about five minutes. And for some reason, property values and rents are(given NYC prices) reasonable. Manhattan without the hassle.

Have a relative who moved into this building last year. I really like the location when I visit. It’s a nice building to come back to after a long day because its not a huge noisy building. It appears well– maintained and, the doormen are always friendly and professional. The gym is great and never crowded and there is a dry cleaner in the building and a 24 hour amazing deli across the street. If I lived and worked in Manhatten, I would highly recommend L’Ecole. There are many young professionals I have seen in the elevator as well as families and people of all ages.

Since i’ve moved to the city, I’ve found that my biggest screens for doing anything are proximity and effort. Yes, I know what you’re going to say: «Alex, you’re so lazy», «Alex, you’re missing out on great things by limiting yourself», «Alex, you’re beautiful» — And you’re right. I’m now living at a great apartment building 0.5 blocks from work, requiring me to climb NO stairs to get home, with doormen who are nothing but nice and kind. L’Ecole has a beautiful, well-equipped gym as well as a very nice roof top for the summer. There is also a room you can rent out to host private events(or as I use it for, Poker). Also, mad props to my boy Niki — He was there at the place and the time when I needed someone, and it will not be forgotten. I know that midtown east doesn’t really have the«community» that the east village or chelsea may have. I know that I’ve limited my weekday world to a 5 block radius around my apartment, but I truly enjoy where I live and hopefully if you’re considering this area, you’ll look into L’Ecole.
