Great bar but please lose the new white tuxedo jackets for the bartenders. Totally out of place in such a hip downtown location. They look like hotel room service uniforms. Also, the bartenders hate them too.

I’ve been to the Club Room at Soho Grand a few times over the years for birthdays, get-togethers, etc. It has a swanky feel to it which I like and the music, although a little too loud, is usually pretty good. By loud I mean you can still have a conversation, but you need to lean in close to the person you’re talking to. There’s a small outdoor smoking area which is convenient if you want to use it or escape for a couple minutes. My problem with this place is that its too expensive for what it is. Over the years they have raised drink prices to absurd levels, now approaching $ 20 per cocktail. And at that price, you sort of need to tip $ 2 per drink instead of $ 1. It bothers me because the drinks are decent, but not particularly potent or large, so you’re still spending $ 100 if you want to get drunk here and more than that if you’re taking out a girl. They may also intentionally mischarge your credit card, as happened to me recently so beware of running a tab here. Because I had my receipt they had to fix the error. The area is nice and the place is trendy and all. I just think its dated at this point and not worth the absurd drink prices.

The Club Room is always a great place to start the night. Music ranges from The Rolling Stones to Notorious B.I.G. in the best, BEST way possible. Lots of comfy leather chairs and couches to sit down and sip your(expensive) drink, plus plenty of room to dance if you’re so inclined. Staff is usually very friendly and nice. Starts getting pretty crowded around midnight.
