If you plan on enjoying the Mardi Gras season then you must pick up a Mardi Gras guide. As the previous reviewers said, there are parade and event schedules as well as neat little stories about the different Krewes and the people and throws therein. And because there is a different one every year, it makes a nice little collectors item to throw into your bag of beads for safe keeping.

Arthur Hardy’s Mardi Gras Guide is the must have magazine for anyone coming to, interested in, or wishing to avoid Mardi Gras. The parade maps and schedules are available on the magazine’s website for free, but the magazine is well worth its purchase price. Inside you will find history, pictures and a brief synopsis of each Krewe’s specialty throws. I highly recommend you pick up a copy at a local store, or order one online. You won’t be disappointed.

OK. You’re new to New Orleans and want to seem like you’re an old hand at this carnival business. What to do? Go to your nearest corner store and look on the magazine racks, there you will see the Arthur Hardy Mardi Gras Guide(an annual published since 1977), buy it. It is worth the $ 5 you will spend. The guide gives information on the history of the various Krewes, what their special throws might be this year, and other carnival esoterica. It also gives you maps and schedules.
