My fiancé and I had 3 fair to poor experiences with mall jewelers. David, at Ashby, was a breath of fresh air! He stayed within our budget (we choose to spend slightly more) and ordered different diamonds for our choosing. He continued our diamond education (we had done some of our own learning) and helped us at each step in creating a simple ring that we love. Kudos for small/​local business.

One of the worst experiences. The staff of two is sorely lacking. The woman that works there is unable to even change a watch band as she claims to be a goldsmith only. During my 20 minute wait i had the pleasure of listening to her try to assist a client, and I was treated to overhear her lack of knowledge. The owner was busy with a couple showing them the cheap excess Zales inventory. Their inventory is junk, staff useless, do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

I recently ordered a ring form another jeweler online, which ended up being incorrectly sized. Instead of sending it back and paying extra postage, and to ensure that I had the correct sizing, I brought it to Ashby’s. They were extremely friendly and courteous. The ring, silver, was sized up .75 in size, and was ready in six days, and it only cost $ 37.00. I will absolutely use them again…

I had to find a local jeweler after moving to Manassas from Alexandria. My husband needed to get his wedding ring polished and Ashby’s was able to do it significantly lower than the jewelers in Alexandria (everything is more expensive the closer you get to DC!).
This week, I took my diamond wedding band to get polished and not only did they provide prompt service, but it was also very inexpensive ($ 10 vs $ 60 at other jewelers). I also bought a watch while I was talking to the sales person and they offer battery replacement for free for the life of the watch… you can’t get a better deal than that!
The jewelry they sell looks to be of high quality (I am not sure how much they sell pieces for) and they also do custom work.
