I don’t get the chance to fish as often as I like to(who does) or as often as I used to. So I wanted to maximize my chance of catching fish this past trip and decided to hire a guide through Sierra Drifters. My fiend and I wanted to get into the bigger fish on the Upper Owens. We did some fishing on it the day before our guide trip and it was not encouraging Tons of pressure with each hole being fished hard by big crowds. Leaving the Upper Owens with our tails between our legs, we were a little concerned about our chances the next day. Tom called us to set up a time to meet, and offered an alternative to the Upper Owens. He suggested a drift down the Lower Owens. We decided to take him up on his suggestion and it turned out to be a great move. The flows on the Lower Owens was perfect, there were lots of fish to catch with a couple of decent size ones mixed in, and most important to me, no crowds. Tom is true professional. I’m a beginner fly fisherman on a good day, and Tom was respectful and made me feel like I actually knew what I was doing. He is a pleasure to spend a day with, has expert knowledge on everything fishing, and is well versed in current events both related to or not related to fishing. I had a great time fishing with Tom and will definitely be using Sierra Drifters for my next guide trip in the Sierra.

What a bunch of idiots. As they invasively float down the Owens river, stopping where others are fishing, telling all to move their lines because they are coming through. Totally without apology. All for the sake of financially lining their pockets.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to fish with several of the guides from Sierra Drifters and have alway found them to be attentive, knowledgable and simply fun to be around. I recently spent a day on Lake Crowley with Tom Loe and had my wife with me. Incredible! She ranks it as her most memorable fishing experience ever. Great fishing, great company… how can you beat that? Beginner or experience fly fisher– I highly recommend Tom and his team for a great experience… again!

My fiancé and I went on a guided fly fishing experience with Tom Loe a few days ago in Crowley Lake. Tom was very helpful and receptive, especially since it was my first time fly fishing. He was very attentive and gave good tips throughout the entire time. He is very knowledgeable and friendly, and took pictures of us when we caught fish. We definitely recommend this service and will be returning.

Sierra Drifters is a fly fishing guide service serving the Eastern Sierras. They offer a variety of guided fly fishing trips. I have used them twice to fish the lower Owens River. They way they do this is called driftboating. Basically you and one or two other fisherman get in a large fiberclass rowboat rowed by the guide. In my case the guide was named Tom and is the owner of Sierra Drifters. The boat is allowed to drift with the current and you stop and drop anchor at each turn in the river that looks likely to hold trout. It’s about the only way to fish this area as most of the banks of the lower Owens are inaccessible due to heavy vegetation. It’s also really nice just so sit in the boat and relax while someone else does all the work. My children and I have done almost no fly fishing and were worried that it wouldn’t be much fun. This was not the case. All three of us caught fish both trips and Tom did a great job teaching us the right way to fish from the boat and getting us into good spot to catch. I would recommend this service to anyone who’s interested in fishing this area. Tons of fun and a great way to relax and enjoy the lower Owens River. Sierra Driftes also offers guided fly fishing at several lakes in the area including Crowley Lake and along the upper Owens River as well several other places.
