The food itself is great. Definitely felt light and«healthy» and not drowned in sauce like typical Chinese food. I will definitely use this place every time we are in Mammoth when we’re lazy and don’t want to go out to dinner. Food is a little bit pricey, $ 75 for 3 people(we had leftovers). But they DELIVER. After a long day of snowboarding how awesome to get good Chinese food delivered right to your hotel. Definitely worth the price. Driver was super nice and friendly.

Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in chinese/asian food. They give small portions and the quality of the food is below average. $ 160 spent on several dishes that were all disappointing in taste, texture, and portion. The wonton’s texture was very rubbery and plain. It’s pretty sad though, you can find frozen wontons that are much better tasting in a local supermarket and get your money’s worth. However, don’t be fooled, the food may smell or look good at first, but, in the end, you can find overall better quality asian food in a local or nearby china town along with a cheaper price. Essentially, don’t waste your time and money on this restaurant because you’ll be sorely disappointed.

We, own a condo in mammoth we have been coming up here for years. We have always wanted to go to the REDLANTERN for dinner. We ordered dinner to be picked up for five… I asked how much one order will feed. I was told one order will feed two people. so I ordered accordingly… The bill came to $ 250.00. I thought it was outrageous there was enough food for 10. They told me the food would be ready. In 45 min. It took them 1 hour 20 min. When the food arrived it was completely over cooked burnt, awful. I called the manager Michael, not only was I given the wrong proportion. And was forced to over Order but the food was so HORRIBLE we threw it out.. Michael as a manger failed to satisfy any way. $ 250.00 for 5 people for Bad Chinese food. A complete ripoff. And poorly managed. Will never go back or recommend.

This place was incredible! Their food was amazing along with their ambiance. Their Egg Drop Soup and Hot and Sour are amazing. For an entrée the Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef are great. We are certainly going back!

Most ridiculously crap horrible excuse of Chinese food I’ve EVER had in my life. Clearly the good reviews are from people who have zero taste buds. I’m from Los Angeles and while I recognize mammoth is not about to have fine dining, there is absolutely NOEXCUSE for serving bad food. When our group of 15 would rather have eaten McDonald’s as opposed to this place again… you know something has gone terribly wrong. I’m not even going to comment on the cleanliness or service or ambiance of this place because quite frankly it doesn’t matter. I’d be interested to know if they are actually up to health code violations because I truly am in shock of how terrible quality the food was. This place doesn’t even deserve one star.

I have to say… as far a customer service, this place ranks at the bottom! I am a regular customer of the Sierra Nevada Resort, and don’t get me wrong, we love the place and will continue to stay at the resort. But, after 3 attempts to either order take out or delivery to our room across the parking lot, I give up! They always say they are not doing take out or delivery and twice, they won’t even take a request for a table! It’s a great advertisement for all the other restaurants in walking distance to our hotel.

In the era of smart phones you should never get lost when making a delivery. 30 minutes late and mildly warm food. There is a reason there are no prices listed on the online menu, it is because it is ridiculously expensive. Ordered four dishes and two orders of spring rolls for a total of $ 105. Given all that the food was not bad.

We came New Years Day for a dinner and we waited one hour and when we sited and order the food, which was very good and delusion. The workers are very friendly and the chief cooks good food. Plus the mixed alcohol Good job

I’ll never know how good the food is here because the host that guards the entrance was so rude and arrogant. There are too many other great restaurant choices here in Mammoth to have to deal with that poor service. It just astonishes me that businesses don’t get it. Service is everything. Take a lesson from Chart house on service. If you’re debating on whether to try Chart House or Red Lantern, do yourself a favor and go to Chart House. You will enjoy A rated service and cuisine.

Slow and disorganized service; it could have been a bad day for the servers with staff shortage, but reading other Unilocalers reviews I am thinking this is probably what this place is normally about. The food was good. Inside the restaurant was very cold and the food got cold right away. When outside temperature is about 10 degrees people come inside expecting a warm restaurant. Decoration was really«red lantern»

Not much nice to say about this place besides the food… Food: Potstickers– delicious/Wonton Soup– Salty/Mongolian Beef– was overcooked but had great flavor/Kung Pao Shrimp– BESTTHING there, highly recommend it, great flavors, TON of shrimp/Shrimp Fried Rice– Good flavor, was a little cold when we ate it/White rice– cooked perfectly! Menu: Very few options for a chinese restaurant Prices: WAY over priced for the portion sizes Service: Horrible. No one was in there yet and for some reason our waiter seemed to ignore us. We saw our appetizer sit on the heating bar for over 5 minutes, which he was talking with coworkers, passed by it a few times then finally brought them to us cold. Then he only paid attention to me. It was extremely awkward! Ambience: Very upscale, tables were clean, tables were preset, gorgeous red lanterns hanging from the ceiling, my plate had rice on it…

Very nice place to dine in with relative good quality of food and price. However, don’t rely on the hostess to lead you the way because she seemed very slow and disorganized! Better way is to just go to the restaurant yourself and ask the service person over to show you your own table!

I don’t normally write review, but this is one of the dinner experience I ever had. To start with we have to wait more than 30 mins for food and they are not fancy ones that that long time to make. Over that period no waiter even check with us on my drinks and never apologized for the delay. When I food finally arrived, the rice was not fully cooked. The bean bean looks like it had been cooked multiple times. Told the waitress about the rice and said that she cannot do anything about it since all the batch are the same. Never offered anything to replace it. Just don’t go there

In town for a wedding. So for our 1st night we decided to have a nice dinner. Place looked cute from the outside(bears :)) and the Unilocal reviews were pretty good. Loved the beautiful red lanterns inside. We ordered the chicken lettuce cups and they were delicious. Ask for their hot paste. For our entrees we ordered Kung pao chicken, pork fried rice and BBQ pork. Everything was perfect with nice bold flavors. Only one thing, I wish the hostesses and staff were a little bit friendlier and more welcoming. Other than that I would love to dine here again.

I came the the red lantern two or three years ago. It was freaky good. I couldn’t wait to get the chance to come back. I did… things have changed. First thing I noticed was the menu seemed to have very few choices. I chose the Orange chicken. It was over cooked and hard to eat some of the pieces because they were so tough. The flavor was ok, but it wasn’t very warm by the time it got to me. The service was ok. The music wasn’t right for Chinese food & the tea was too strong and tasted bitter, but that’s not the reason for the 1 star. The reason I’m giving 1star is because both our plates were absolutely filthy. Those dishes have not been actually scrubbed… maybe ever. They had a thick coat of greasy funk all over the front and back. You could see it and feel it! I find it hard to believe that nobody in that entire place is making sure(or cares) that the friggin dishes are clean! That’s a deal breaker for me. I won’t be back. So disappointed.

WOW! Definitely a good surprise in this little place! Inexpensive, amazing dishes, with excellent service. Stoked to come back! I stopped in on a slow night, so my epic service may not apply to everyone. The waitress came by my table half a dozen times throughout the evening, knew the menu very well, and made sure things were going well. My food arrived in less than 10 minutes after ordering(again, could be more on a busy night). The Kung Pao Chicken was different than I’d ever had before… in a good way. The chicken was lightly breaded, and the sauce was just spicy enough to make my nose run– but not enough to make my eyes water ;) The meal was served on a small plate, but it was piled high and deceptively filling. There was a very nice assortment of items in the dish(peanuts, chiles, green onions, water chestnuts, peppers, and several other things i couldn’t identify. This gave the flavor, texture, and presentation a nice variety that is lacking at most other establishments. I was extremely pleased. The prices were very reasonable. My dinner & beer was $ 21 with tax. Not bad for a restaurant with the tagline«FINE Chinese dining»! For the quality and service, I was expecting much higher prices. It was better than the expensive restaurants in town :) Update: I’ve eaten here twice and it’s still 5-stars. It was a little weird having the employees chat and gossip within earshot of my dinner table, but still great food.

This place has a beautiful ambiance, and the food was good offering a healthier version of Chinese. With family style servings, our family of 5 ordered the following: — Orange Chicken — Vegetable Fried Rice — Beef and Broccoli This was served with white rice as well, and was the perfect amount for us in this sitting. Overall a decent place to drop in.

Plats satisfaisants. Addition élevée pour une cuisine chinoise.

If you are looking for amazing Chinese food – you need to experience the Red Lantern. Do not even waste your time going to the other so called Chinese spots. Nothing in Mammoth can compare to the Red Lantern. I came here with my dad, we were seated right away by a nice young man. Our server was on top of it. I didn’t get his name but his service was top notch. We each ordered a specialty cocktail(can’t remember the name) that had ginger beer in it. Holy smokes these were so good. We each had 2. =) We had the wonton soup for our appetizer and it was delicious. The broth was so flavorful and the wontons were stuffed full. I love ordering this at Chinese restaurants because everyone makes it their own way. Truly a must order for a soup. We ordered sweet and spicy pork, kung pao chicken and shrimp lo mein for our meal. We also got the fried rice that came as a side to the pork and chicken dish. This was the perfect amount for 2 people. We had just a small amount left over. Delicious! This is not fast food Chinese. So do not expect that and write a bad review on here. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is OMG good. I feel that the prices are very fair for the quality of food you receive. Just an FYI– The Red Lantern and Jimmy’s Taverna are the same owner(I think). If you have the time, you should experience both. Check out my review on Jimmy’s Taverna. Thanks to the owners for another great experience.
