THE BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT EVER… Went there tonight and it was a great choice, great food, best margarita, service is an A+, manager is very friendly and attentions. Live «mariachi band»… Simply the BEST!!! Highly recommended!!!
My wife and kids loved it, We will certainly go back.

The place is extremely comfortable, and the service is friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and delicious, and the margaritas are solid. We have been here several times and it is consistently excellent. We used to go to the place in Wellington Circle, and now we never give that place a thought. Good place for a larger party, and for sports viewing. Comfortable bar for eating.

I moved down the street from El Potro this past September and it has become my go-​to spot for a delicious dinner. The service is always extremely fast and polite and the drinks are delicious (ask for a jalapeño margarita!). I’ve had the spinach enchiladas (to die for), fish tacos, and taco salad with shrimp and they’ve all been delicious. Every guest that I bring says that it is the best Mexican that they’ve had. Thank you, El Potro, for quickly becoming a staple in Malden and my diet!

My girlfriend and I were excited to hear about a new Mexican restaurant opening so close to our apartment, so we stopped in to try it out. Parking was easy to find with spots available on the street and in a small lot right across the street. We were greeted and seated immediately (this may change as more people hear about the place). The restaurant is very clean, décor is great, and the staff are polite, professional, and fast.
Getting chips & salsa right away is the best part of eating at Mexican restaurants and El Potro goes above and beyond with warm tortilla chips and fresh salsa that they provide in a small glass pitcher so you never run out!
I had the Pollo en Mole based on a previous review (and because it was a dish I had never tried), and my girlfriend got the fish tacos. Both were amazing… fresh ingredients cooked and seasoned perfectly.
We will definitely be back and we are happy to have an authentic Mexican place right down the street because Margaritas in Station Landing just isn’t cutting it.

I stopped by for some pupusas! I kinda tasted better than the ones I have had in Somerville! I like the bar and space and decoration. I have passed by many times but not interested in coming in, however, I just tried it and yeap, I might stop by again soon!

This was a great restaurant. Quick service, attentive service, friendly staff. The chili rellenos— I can’t even express I swallowed them they were so good. Definitely will return!

My boyfriend and I have been here twice in the last couple of months. The service is fast and friendly. The food is fresh and delicious. The margaritas are really great– no sour mix, FTW.
The first time we came to El Potro, I ordered the Enchiladas al Mole. Hands down, THE best mole sauce that I’ve ever had. The pulled chicken inside of the enchiladas was all white meat; the seasoning was perfect. The dish was served with rice and beans. My boyfriend got the spinach burrito. It required a fork and knife due to it’s gargantuan size, but he liked it a lot.
Tonight I ordered Tacos al Carbon. The steak was cooked to medium-​well, but was marinated in some kind of magic. The tacos came topped with generous dollops of delicious guacamole. My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos. He said they were good and that the fish tasted fresh.
While the Tacos al Carbon were really tasty, I’ll definitely be ordering the Enchiladas Mole next time. So. Good.
Try the ultimate margarita!

My wife and I have been here before, we both thoroughly enjoy Mexican Food and we wanted something different, we normally would drive up to Woburn to On the Border for Mexican Food. We had gotten a gift certificate for Christmas and decided to use it tonight, while we waited for another couple we order an app and had a drink, the other couple arrived and we ordered a couple more drinks and our food, I informed the server that I have a food allergy to onions and ordered the Steak and Chicken Fajitas with just peppers, my wife ordered the Chimichanga and the other couple ordered their food, all the food was delivered promptly and at the same time, I had onions on my Fajita, I explained to the Manager of my food allergy and he promptly took the food away, returned and apologized, he informed us that the cooks did not see no onions and just cooked it as they normally would, he also informed me that they would recook my order, the right way. I said it wasn’t a problem and he returned with a drink and once again offered his apologies and said the drink was on him.
They have live Music, a Mariachi Band on Tuesday Nights, we’ve only been here on Saturday Night and thought the atmosphere was more then comfortable. I would recommend El Potro to anyone who is looking for good authentic Mexican Food, I’m a good sized guy and the portions were more then enough, the fried Ice Cream was the perfect dessert after some really good food!!!

5^th time here. Each time we try a different dish and reach time im it’s the best we’ve ever had. Love this place.

The boyfriend and I had been to the Somerville location before so we wanted to try the Malden location. We saw a groupon for it and tried it that same night.
The ambiance is brightly colored and spacious. We were sat in a booth and started off with the complimentary fresh tortilla chips and salsa. Both were good. We ordered a Tamal and a cheese and loroco pupusa to share as appetizers. Both were so good especially the tamal.
For entrees we both ordered enchiladas suizas. They were delicious and stuffed full of chicken. I brought about half of my meal home and my boyfriend happily finished his.
The waitstaff was attentive and polite. We will definitely be going back again!

Great new restaurant in the area! Excellent service, our server Jason was extremely attentive, friendly and ensured we were completely satisfied with everything. My shrimp dish was delicious and the fajitas were great, piping hot on a sizzling plate. There’s a free parking lot across the street and they have a full bar!

Oh my a wonderful Mexican restaurant in Malden with a huge parking lot across the street? Even a Groupon too! This place is good as it gets honestly.
Walking in is a little strange, there’s no host/​hostess but I was seated immediately anyways.
Chips were also given to us with a thing of salsa. Oh my unlimited chips how can I pass it up? My friend and I destroyed 2 baskets of chips and a thing of salsa. Our waiter (Jason…) even offered us house salsa and oh my that was great. It wasn’t crazy spicy, but it was just right.
I ordered carne asada, recommended by our waiter, and it was so good. Served with rice, steak, re-​fried beans, a mini salad, a little pico de gallo, and a little guacamole. The steak seemed a little small, but it was plenty for me. Also got tortillas on the side and make my own and it was so good ugh.
Get the guac, pls. You won’t regret it. It’s not Chipotle e coli fun stuff. I only had maybe like a scoop of guac but it was so good and I wish I ordered more for the chips.
What threw me off the most was the live mariachi band. Think about like [redacted:stereotypical] an authentic mariachi band and that’s what you get. Violins, guitars, singing, wow. Caught me off guard so hard when I walked in.
Overall I had a great experience because the chips were so good, salsa was great, carne asada was good, and the guac was even better. LOL.

Went to El Potro in Malden tonight and the food was fresh and WONDERFUL!
The staff was very attentive and it is also very clean.

Came in here on a recommendation of a friend. The food was awesome. Highlight of the meal was Camarones al Mariachi. The sauce was so flavorful. Shrimps were cooked perfectly. The place was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back again.

I don’t know where to start about El Porto, Authentic Mexican food, Authentic Mexican décor, huge bar! Amazing food! I will definitely be back!
Sal is the GM he checked on us twice and was very pleasant and informative along with our waitress.

Loved everything about our lunch here! They were super attentive, extra friendly to my kids, and the food was delicious! I LOVED the chips and salsa, the fish tacos and the Trio Enchiladas were great. We had plenty for leftovers. Margaritas were tasty too (and STRONG!) I will definitely be back. Parking lot is a plus!

I lived in Texas for 21 years so I have seen my share of both good and bad Mexican food. I am extremely happy to say that after living in Massachusetts for over two years I have FINALLY found a place that serves authentic Mexican food. I loved the enchiladas verde (: my only complaints are I ordered chicken and received beef and the fried rice was very bland which are the two reasons why I’m only giving 4 stars. I’ll go back another time and give them a second chance to get it right though. Also, love the décor (: felt like I was back at a spot in my hometown.

Checked this place the other night on a Monday. Food was great, didn’t have any alcohol, but the guacamole was on point, the chips warm when they hit the table and salsa was A Ok. I enjoyed my fish tacos, the seasoning or spice on them was different but good. My eating partner had the skirt steak the name escapes me, but she liked it. I will say I think when you order fish tacos usually at say papagayo or border café you get 3 tacos, maybe I’m just a fat guy at heart and love to over eat I mean this is America !!!
Service was real good, lots of table touches and check ins. There was a fundraiser on the bar side but that didn’t interfere with our service at all. Décor is real nice, looks like well… every Mexican restaurant Ive ever been to. This place was better than mexico lindo in my opinion. I will be back for sure…
