Hopefully, they read this review. Went there twice. My husband and I both felt sick. Is it the oil or the prepackaged cold slaw and tarter sauce? I see that some fried food orders were under cooked, that could be the problem. My husband thinks the oil was not Hot enough. Whatever it is, fix it. We’ll be monitoring the reviews and we’ll try one more time when you open in the spring. Thank you in advance. Also, the garbage can inside and the dumpster outside smell really bad.

Thank you for being bought out. That you for restoring good fried seafood to the shoreline. Let the masses encroach elsewhere. Us locals know the real score.

Have eaten here a couple of times since new owners. Best Fries and Clam Fritters. Seafoods fresh and cooked the just right. Only thing I miss is the Fish Chower. Hope they don’t close for the winter!

Researched the area for the best New England clam chowder. This was the winner. Well, it was ok– a 5 on a 1 – 10 scale. It wasn’t as good as Walt’s Wharf in Seal Beach, CA. Still the all– time– winner hands down. The fish and chips were a generous portion but not fully cooked in the middle– fries were great. The place was very clean and tidy. Would not return.

I thought it was a few dollars expensive for what it was, but I guess maybe seafood prices have risen or something. Food was good, interior was kind of meh. I’d eat here again if I was brought here but I might otherwise test out the other seafood places nearby first to compare.

Love this place! Another place I have to visit on my yearly fall trip to Connecticut! Their blackened cod fish tacos can’t be beat! That is my recommendation… The fish and chips is worth every penny. Take a trip here, spend your money on a family owned business and walk away a happy clam!

Being from the Midwest I wanted a lobster roll. Not something flown in from someplace, but something fresh. I got a lobster roll & lobster bisque. To my surprise the roll was hot, not cold. I was expecting something with a mayo base, but this didn’t have that. Not that this bad, just that’s not what I’ve seen on TV. Coleslaw was the same way, not mayo based, it was really good. The bisque was great! I could have had a bucket of that. So I was surprised & enjoyed it. That’s what eating at a new place should be.

Whole belly clams were small and did not compare well to those of well-known seafood restaurant just across the street. Clam chowder a slight improvement but still not great. Good cole slaw and tartar sauce. Dirty garbage can to dispose of your used paper goods right near main counter was a big turn-off, as was scenic view of gas station right next door.

Had a delicious Lobster roll! We came here at 1130AM and only a few people were eating. When we were leaving the place was filling in fast! If you like whole belly clams… this is the place!

Roadside clam shack w great food at great prices. Loved the chunky clam chowder and loaded cod tacos. Fries were fresh.

The fried seafood plates are excellent: fresh-tasting and not greasy. However, the hot lobster roll left me wanting a) more lobster meat, and b) more butter. I tried fried cheese curds for the first time; they are legit! Prices were a little on the high side.

We had delicious fish tacos and scallop roll. All of the food was prepared well. It seemed to be a long wait, especially since the numbered orders went way past ours and made us wonder if we had been forgotten. A printed menu would have been easier to navigate, as the line that we stood in to order our food felt rushed and disorganized. Would definitely return since ultimately the food was good.

Made the mistake of leaving at noon from NYC on a Friday of a Peak summer weekend trip to Saybrook, CT. Even though it took FOURHOURS to reach this spot, it was damn worth every painstaking minute. We both ordered fried clams; for me, the whole bellies, for my husband, just the strips. Simple, FRESH, not greasy and delicious. The sweet onion straws were an amazing accompaniment, as was the crisp and crunchy cole slaw. My family was known for«destination dining» when I was growing up. This place is definitely on the top of my list… just not on a Friday during the summer.

Ate here on 7÷24÷15 and cannot wait to go back! Its a little shack type place where you order your food at a counter & they then call your number & bring it to you when ready. Outdoor picnic tables are available. I also saw people drinking wine & beer so I’m guessing BYOB is acceptable. I had the ½ order whole belly clams, fries and a cup of Rhode Island Chowder. My husband got the fried shrimp platter with sweet potato fries. Oh my these clams were ONPOINT! So delicious and not chewy at all. ½ order had about 8HUGE clams & a ton of delicious fries. The fries had a coating on them and I just could not stop! The clam chowder was fantastic and had not ONE chewy piece either. Hubby loved the shrimp & the sweet potato fries as well. Do yourself a favor and eat here! you will not be disappointed!

Having spent a significant amount of time as both a visitor and resident of the shoreline, I must’ve driven past Clam Castle 50 or more times but the boyfriend and I decided on a whim to come here on Monday when we were about to go enjoy some beach time at the Ham. We just wanted some whole belly fried clams! At $ 20 for a large order, they were priced similarly to other spots and they were so good! Tasted fresh and clams were a good size! Hit the spot. I liked the casual atmosphere — didn’t feel at all out of place in my beach gear. Service at the counter was friendly and the wait was almost nonexistent.

Best clam strips I’ve ever had and I grew up with a hometown go-to for seafood and other dairy bar goodness. The lobster was over-cooked so I brought my roll to the counter and was offered a replacement. I politely declined and the counter cashier offered me a refund without my asking, which was a nice gesture of good customer service. They have tempura soft shell crab, all variety of fried seafood, chowder, lemonade, soft serve ice cream, and so on. I like the clam shack meets diner ambiance and that I can roll in(pun intended) after the beach with wet hair and be comfortable. If it weren’t for the over-cooked lobster in my lobster roll I’d give 4 stars. I would return.

This reminds me of a Clam Shack that you might see on Food Network’s ‘Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.’ Fixed menu(see photo) with daily specials available too. Kids food options available. Whole clam bellies are here! They are hard to find so I was excited to see them on the menu. Lobster Roll(hot) is melted butter — no mayo. Seafood rolls(lobster, clam bellies, clam strips, shrimp, etc.) and platters available that come with french fries. Tarter sauce comes with all sandwiches/platters. However, if you’d like cocktail sauce, you will need to ask for it. They call your order # when ready and bring to your table. Outdoor seating is available. Easy to get here from I-95 and easy to get back on. We stopped here on our journey through CT. Bathroom is available for customers on the backside of the building.

I have been here 4 times and the seafood and the clam chowder are the best that I have had in many years. I do enjoy Lenny And Joes too but clan castle is a better Quality of freshness and cooking. Fish tacos were beyond good. Chicken in a bag was Delicious too!

This restaurant was under new ownership starting summer of 2014… We didn’t care for it before but thought we’d give it another try… The fish taco supreme! I had it with broiled cod and it was perfect. My husband had the Fried shrimp platter, The shrimp was tasty & fresh, the batter good– he only got 8 shrimp with his meal, which was disappointing, but as I said they were tasty. Friendly staff, clean place. Edit: we went back and instead of the french fries I got the German potato salad, which was on special… It was awesome!(and I’m picky about my potato salad)

Be careful eating here. We witnessed a guy working here«sample» food right out of our clam basket and take some of our whole belly clams and place them on someone else’s platter before it reached us. In spite of that they did remake our order and it tastes great. 5 stars for food 2 deducted for sampling our order when they thought we weren’t looking.
