Another hidden gem off the main stream. El Toucan is a must for lunch if you are doing the Madera Wine Trail(also a must) Stop at the intersection of Hwy 145 and Rd. 7 look to the NW and find ELTOUCAN next to the local bodega. This is a locals eatery, the owner is from El Salvador and moved to this spot from the madness of Oakland(yes that peoples paradise in the land of oz in SFO) too much trouble and unrest… Great home cooked food… with beer… great Tortas… frijoles and chips and salsas… muy spicy but great tasting. The Albondigas soup at another table looked very good… nice service and friendly in the hinterlands of Madera county. Try it you won’t regret it…$ very reasonable. Combine the Madera Wine Trail and some great local latino food. Call 559−664−0775 for directions if you get lost.

First time here. I have to say the pupusas were good better than the other ones I tried in Fresno. The place was empty I guess cause I went late at night. We didn’t wait long at all. Definitely going back when I get that pupusa craving. Only thing is I wish they had antojitos I felt like having nuegados or torrejas. But they didn’t have any.

I’ve had some pretty average Mexican/El Salvadorian food here but laugh all you want, they have a pretty good bacon cheeseburger. Far from gourmet but just good.

YAY! I’m the first to review El Tucan… a lovely hole in the wall located on your way out of Kerman and into Madera. A local farmer recommended this joint and we stopped in on our way back to the Bay Area. The pupusas were on par with many of the best joints in the Bay — delicious! Platanos fritos — yummmm — you have to try them along with the frijoles salvadorenos… to die for! I lived in Fresno for 3 years and was dying to find a good pupuseria in the Fresno area — low and behold — I move away and this place pops up! Enjoy!
