The burger tasted like cafeteria food, I don’t know if it was just a defective burger or what. I am not willing to try that again.

Nu Way on Cotton Avenue has been a family tradition for 4 generations of my family but unfortunately, approximately 2 months ago it burn down They are planning on rebuilding and opening soon and cannot wait. There are other locations in Macon but you cannot beat the original. I can’t wait for it to reopen

Who does not love this place! Nothing better than a chocolate malt. I have never had a bad meal from here, it’s a macon classic. They are located all over macon and few in other small towns out side of macon. I prefer the slaw dog vs just the regular. The chicken nuggets are also great

I remember eating here as a child, teenager, and an adult then I moved away and everytime I come home I have to say«I’d drive a long way for nu way» it’s like 1300 something miles lol but that chili cheese burger is killer OMG I have to have it or a Meg burger with cheese it’s nothing like it

Oh my lord WHATWASTHAT! Here’s a tip people, a hot dog should not be bright pink. We are in Macon on our way to Augusta from Tampa FL and heard about Nu Way Weiners. We had two hot dogs«all the way» chili, onions and mustard. We each took one bite and promptly through them in the trash. It was disgusting. Let’s not even talk about the service. Oh and the«malt» it’s a giant fake frosty. Skip this place weary travelers just don’t.(This review cost us $ 10)

As a born-and-bred Maconite, I’m kind of embarrassed that this is the place many of my fellow Maconites bring outsiders(like Oprah) to come try for a taste of Macon. This place is definitely not what Macon offers best. A good hotdog should be smoky, flavorful, and have the umami taste of meat. The hotdogs at Nuway don’t have any of this. The only flavor I taste is salt. The chili and slaw they put on the dog is likewise low quality. I can easily prepare a better hotdog at home. The downtown location also is in dire need for nicer, friendlier staff. I saw the manager speak under his breath to customers waiting in line in his way«people need to move out of the way!» rather than the more cordial«excuse me, thank you.» Employees also need to be able to handle and respond to stress better instead of taking it out on the customers by being rude. I understand the nostalgia for local food joints like this but I worry the low quality of food and poor service will jeopardize this Macon institute’s future.

They say you’ll go a long way for a Nu-Way. I tend to agree. This old school dinner serves the basics: burgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings. The food is exactly what you would expect. As an Atlantian, I grew up eating at The Varsity. This is not The Varsity and it doesn’t try to be The Varsity South. With that said, it is basically what The Varsity used to be – a cheap place to grab a bite to eat.

I don’t get it. When I moved to Macon all my coworkers, everybody I talked to said I had to try Nu-Way, it was the best EVAR. Maybe being from Atlanta and having experienced The Varsity, I’m spoiled. The hot dog was OK. Skip the cheese. The chili was… different. I didn’t care for it. Same with the Scramble Dog. Fries were cold, greasy, and soggy.

If your not from Georgia DONOTEATHERE! We’ve lived in Georgia for awhile now and have quickly learned that if people in Georgia think it’s good than it’s really bad. We placed a huge order and no one was happy with the quality of the food. The patty melt is not a true patty melt. It’s a grilled cheese with a piece of hamburger placed in the middle. No sauce, onions… not even the correct cheese for a patty melt. It was discussing! I miss Whataburger, they know how to make a patty melt! The ketchup bottles are watered down so the ketchup tastes nasty! The hot dog is nothing special. I don’t understand the hype of this place. Maybe it’s because I’ve been all over the world and actually have good taste!

Not the best or fastest service Nu-Way. The food is the same. I do like the ham club double decker sandwich and patty melts as an alternative to the hotdogs and hamburgers. The Mega burger is a unique taste that I happen to like. I only found out after years of eating at Nu-Way that you can substitute the obligatory French Fries with the cole slaw, if you are very polite and humble when you ask. Soemtimes you just do not want fries and sometimes they understand and will substitute. Edit: Flaky Ice in 44 ounce cup with good iced tea. Awesome drink. on a hot day,.

WHILE I have tried the Nu-Ways in Warner Robins, I had never been to this one, the original. I decided to try the Scramble Dog with cheese. We sat down for a while– it was after 3 and there were 3 kids sitting as well. After some time, we see the sign to order at the register, I’m saying this not because I was mad, but because I didn’t know and sat there like an idiot. We placed half the order and she walked away. So I waited to place the rest. I’m pretty sure she never even looked at me. Well, let’s just say the people that work at the Warner Robins location are MUCH nicer. HOWEVER, the food is so good, I’m sticking with the 4 stars. The chili on the Scramble dog is a bit different than their regular chili. It has beans and a slightly dif flavor. But I liked it a lot. A dog in a bun, topped with chili and cheese with oyster crackers. I should have gotten 2. The fries were awesome. My partner had the slaw dog and a nu-way all the way. They were gone before I was halfway done so I assume they were good.

This is a little hole in the wall diner serving«The Best Weiner in Town»(as the neon sign lets us know). The brightly colored hot dogs are tasty(and cheap), I’d skip the cheese on your dog(it’s just a slice of American cheese) but get it «all the way» with slaw on top! They also have great ice and their cokes are top notch, I’ll drop in for just a coke to go sometimes!

If you are in the area, you really must pay this place a visit. Sort of a little hole-in-the-walk with truly vintage appeal. Nice staff who are also a throwback to a bygone era. While I don’t love the Nu-Way dogs, the fries and grilled cheese are great choices and the ice really is special! I have been to a few locations and this little spot is my favorite.

My wife and I visited here today and our only complaint is that we do not live in Macon to eat here more often. If you love to go to local places that are not some chain, where food is excellent and the staff is unique and fun than this is a place for you. We loved it so much we even bought some T shirts. It is Monday so I got the Combo #3 and it was great. Coney dog and hamburger that were incredible. Highly, Highly recommend. Now if you are a uppity snob who wants silverware and servers with white aprons this is not the place for you. If you want great food and great ambiance than this is a must stop for you!

This is a old diner type of place. Little red stools lined up around the counter. There is a large menu, you can order breakfast, burgers, REDCRAYOLACOLOREDHOTDOGS! Im not a fan, didnt even like my first bite. I had a dog all the way. When someone in my party ordered a few small burgers, i decided i would try one. The burger was better! I then had one to go. If you have ever eaten at the varsity, this is kinda like it! The chili looks like potting soil mixed with something to moisten it.(Oldfryoil) Get yourself a real hot dog from weinerschnitzels a fast food place on the west coast. Now thats what a REALCHILIDOGIS!!! Nu way NOOOOOOWAY!

Honestly, just go somewhere else. I was drawn to Nu-Way based on the hype that I had heard, and it was a letdown. It’s one of those places that when you walk in the door you feel like you are walking into a Twilight Zone episode. The employees stare at you like you are an alien as the guy taking your money cleans his ear with his pinky and carries on a conversation with another employee. So, I rate the service way below par. The food was pitiful, basic school lunchroom kind of stuff. I had 2 slaw dogs and onion rings. The hotdogs are the cheap red ones, and the onion rings were your straight out of the bag grainy textured carnival variety. I was expecting way more out of this place than what it delivered. Avoid this place, and go to a chain restaurant on the interstate, or try the Rookery which is pretty good.

If you are gonna do it, then do it! Order your bright, red«weiner» with their proprietary chili topped with coleslaw(so finely chopped it looks like onions). I kid you not-I could swear they put cinnamon in that, there chili! However, their lips were sealed.

It’s a hot dog. A pink hot dog, that, when served all the way has chili, cheese, slaw… nothing unique, healthy(stop trying to rationalize it), or attractive but it scratches the itch! Their chocolate malt shakes, on the other hand, are delicious.

Stopped here on the way to STL in 2006. Very small and kind of dirty place, but the hot dogs were excellent. They also serve their fountain drinks with crushed ice, and that tends to make me happy(not sure why). I will definitely roll through the next time I’m on that part of 75.

I won’t get into the«Why were you in Macon?» question for fear of hitting Unilocal’s maximum for allowed text in a review. I will say though that I thoroughly enjoyed Macon and think it’s a beautiful city full of friendly folks. Seriously… But Unilocal told me that, if I was going to eat something in Macon, I should try to make it a Nu-Way dog. Open since 1917? Wow, I guess that says something right there, huh? I went to this original location for authenticity sake, on a Saturday at about 3:30pm. There were people there but it certainly wasn’t busy. The atmosphere is like that of a small lunch counter. There is 2-hour parking out on the street. The menu is somewhat cryptic but the woman who took my order was cordial and patient. For instance, the«All the Way» is chili, mustard and onions. Then there are their burgers, malts and smaller versions of the two prefaced by «mini-». I got a mini-malt and two«All the Way» dogs. They also have a laminated paper sign with more alternative items such as fish and chicken. Something tells me that this would be a bad idea. While I’m sure their cole slaw is fantastic, I have a real disdain for mayonnaise and, therefore, Southern style slaw. Maybe that’s why Georgia and I can’t get along? Total for this was roughly $ 5.50 with tax. Not bad, really. For Atlanta people, the dog and chili are both very similar to what you’ll find at the Varsity there, however these are actually good(yeah, the Varsity sucks, sorry) and that hot dog is dyed bright red. The chili is really, really good and what makes it good is that there’s some special, secret ingredient they put in there that’s very difficult to identify. It’s a spice that adds a unique quality to both that chili and the dog experience itself. The onions nor mustard were particularly plentiful so they didn’t overwhelm the taste at all. In fact, the whole thing was very well put together and balanced out, as you could taste each element individually. I’m a guy that loves my hot dogs, so I’m going to have to rate it. I would put it below a really great Chicago dog, a Skyline Chili dog(if just for the chili) and a Sonoran hot dog(gotta give props to the hometown), but this is a really good dog, and I would encourage fans of it to drop off I-75 on their way through just to get it. I think it’s worth it to try it. Like I said, there’s an interesting quality to it that makes it worthwhile.
