Solid ice cream and GREAT service. It was slow when we were there and the server was SO accommodating to our small children.

If you’re craving for something cold and sweet and want a break from all the yummy shave ice on the island, this spot will take care of you. They have a great selection of Roselani ice cream and don’t charge you an arm and a leg for it. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, a lot of the mainland fixtures that have opened up shop on the island like Baskin Robbins and Coldstones charge a bit more because they have to have their inventory shipped out and business owners have to make up for these costs by charging more than they normally would. In other words, Baskin Robbins cost more in Maui than it does in Cali. So why settle for something that’s probably been stored for several weeks(or months) when you can get locally made ice cream for cheaper?! Why get something you can easily get back home? It’s not every day you get to try Haupia(coconut), Guava Strawberry, Kona Mud Pie, Lychee Sherbert and Maui Pineapple ice cream. That’s just to name a few. Not only does Hula Ice Cream carry a selection of Roselani ice cream flavors but they also make delicious shakes and freshly baked cookies! Did I also mention that you can also get ice cream sandwiches here?! This is a no frills, simple, small mom and pop ice cream parlor. It’s worth visiting before and/or after a trip to the aquarium or hike in Lahaina. It’s not Maui’s ice cream emporium extravaganza but it’s good and hits the spot just right for me.

A place brimming with fame, Hula Cookies is advertised heavily in almost all the brochures I’ve skimmed through about Hawaii. Therefore, it was a place I dragged my family to. It’s a little shabby looking, but it’s not totally crowded with tourists and they have free cookie samples, so things are already lookin’ good for them. On the left there is a wall dedicated to cookie mix, and in the centre are neat lines of cookies waiting to be devoured. We got the kids sized scoop for ice cream — I recommend getting a more tropical flavour, since we are in Hawaii! We also purchased a few cookies that were still fresh and chewy after we left them in our bags for a few days. I think I may have been spoiled from the vast number of gelato and cookie stores in my hometown, so Hula tasted solid but not outstanding. It’s a good place to come with the kids, but it’s not going to blow your mind. More of a 3.5 stars.

Macadamia nut cookie and kona coffee ice cream? Hmm. Yes, please!!! So much flavor for such a small shop– this place was the best spot to relax at after hanging out at the aquarium. If you’re ever around, do it! Make the stop and eat the ice cream sandwich.

Great customer service. The lady at the counter was really friendly and offered us many samples of ice cream flavors. We got coconut, macademia nut, muai pineapple, and lychee. All delicous! We also got some cookies — Kona Coffee Chocolate chip and Sunrise cookies. Super soft and chewy! Definitely coming back the next time we’re in Muai.

Ps it was 6:04 for those that want to know what time we went… updated because of Tami’s quick response and customer service. I have heard it’s better than an It’s-it and want to try.

Atmosphere It’s an ice cream/cookie shop that has awards galore on the walls with highly rated cookie recognition from Maui and rave reviews on Unilocal… because of that, it could use some sprucing up inside. The floors are dated or could use a really good cleaning and the place just felt like it needed some TLC overall. No inside seating except a window bench and maybe two tables outside with few chairs. Service Counter cashier guy was friendly and cheerful. Just what you hope an ice cream employee is! He let us try free samples and chatted about some of the ice cream favorites. Sweet treats I got the Kona with fudge and brownies and coffee in it(can’t think of actual name but had the word Kona in it). It was good but not wow worthy. I hoped for more coffee bursting flavor. Tasted like coffee ice cream with the above additions. Nothing too impressive but nothing bad. Husband got banana & chocolate and said it was very banana(if you like that sorta thing). Also shared 1 cookie again Kona cookie — thin cookie chocolatey and gooey. Was yummy! Noticed the store ships cookies in fun containers direct from store which is a nice perk. They also offered shaved ice, coffee, cookie sandwiches, and cones. Why I’d go back… to try some other flavors or a few cookies instead. PS: a good stop for post-aquarium trip since it’s next door.

This place is not to be missed especially after a day at the Maui Ocean Center or a day of snorkeling. We had the shave ice with ice cream at the bottom and snow cap topping and a ice cream sandwich made to order! Lots of selections and a very helpful staff. This is my new must hit place in maui!!!

Just incredible. My wife had the double chocolate chip cookie with Kona coffee ice cream sandwich. I choose one macadamia papaya cookie with a chocolate chip macadamia cookie with macadamia ice cream!!! Wow!!! Just fantastic after an excursion to Molokini snorkeling on the Four Winds. Man it hit the spot.

Really delicious ice cream sandwiches! The kona coffee cookie and cherry truffle ice cream is a great combination. This place is quite pricy.$ 6.20 for a cookie ice cream sandwich. The location may be a bit hard to find also. It’s located on the 2nd floor(we parked on the ground level) so took us awhile to find Hulas. It’s a small shop but it’s definitely worth spending a few calories on this yummy dessert!
