Restaurante Playa De Acapulco

Honestly, this is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to and it’s hard to find a good authentic Mexican restaurant. Definitely would recommend.

First of all I wanted to give this place a try and some business. I came her with my bf and they had a paper sign that said Wed. they have specials on pupusas. So I told the man and he said it finished at 4. (No where did it say 4) my bf ordered a burrito just chicken and cheese nothing else he told the man. We got our plates and by bf bites into his food and he has onions, cilantro and salsa. (Bf hates the good stuff) the man just took it away and then gave him a new burrito.
I had a chicken pupusas it was okay. The pickled cabbage that goes with the pupusas was old and not fresh neither was the salsa. When I was ready to pay the bill the man told me to go to the desk and just told me the price I didn’t even get to see the receipt. I didn’t even know of he overcharged me. I paid for two pupusas and one burrito and one drink for about$ 18. I didn’t even remember the price on the menu. And I don’t think I’ll ever come back it wasn’t a good first experience and it didn’t feel sanitary too.

The only reason I even gave this place 2 stars was because the pupusas I had we’re actually good. This place does not beat my go to spot in value, taste, and especially sanitation.
My gf and I walked in and took a seat, and could noticeably hear water splashing in their kitchen and someone sweeping water out I suppose. First of all that shouldn’t even be going on during business hours, and secondly the lady who was to make our food was participating in the cleaning. All I could think of was water splashing around the area where my food was being made. Then I saw her and another man sweeping the water while they were in sandals; which only made me think of feet water. To make matters worse I see her grab some curtido with her bare hands and place it in a bag for us to take home. Who knows what chemicals or things she touched while cleaning. At that point I didn’t want the food, but I’m not the type to make someone work for nothing so I bought it.
Like I said, the food did taste good but not great, all the meanwhile I couldn’t help but think of how the food was prepared so I wasn’t enjoying it much. It’s a surprise I can even say it was good after what I saw. I won’t be returning mainly because of the experience but at my go to place I could get bigger and better tasting pupusas, plus more pupusas for what I paid for 3 here.

OK gentle reader I’ll share with you a little secret. This reviewer may not have the foggiest clue what he’s talking about.
My wife is nodding her head right now but you can ignore that.
In my experience there are only a few stuffings for pupusas. Chicharon, cheese, beans and loroco. So I was a little astounded to see chicken, spinach and ayote as options here. What the hell is ayote? The guy says it’s squash and it’s good. OK, we’ll try that. aaand a chicharon. The chicharon was fine but the ayote was amazing! Diced squash and onions with maybe just a touch of cheese. It was the most vegetarian pupusa I’ve ever tried and it was wonderful. The salsa, chips and curtido were all equally delicious.
When I was done I lifted up my scraped-​clean plate and told the employees «No me gutso». That got a good laugh. The oatmeal drink was good too but it was still scaldingly hot even when I was done with dinner. Had to take it home and try it there.
How did I manage to hit two great Salvadoran places in 2 days? No clue.
