Another visit, this time for the omakase for a party of four. I can’t say enough about the quality and deliciousness of Chef Hiro’s food. This was an amazing dinner. Some of the best sushi we all have ever had. Minds blown. I have to post another review because I just can’t understand where these«supermarket sushi» and«kinda crap» comments are coming from. Really? Maybe these are reviews planted by regulars who don’t want too many people to discover Hiro. :-) Nothing is frozen. Everything is immaculately fresh and Chef is very picky about quality. He even makes his own soy sauce. Having had such wonderful experiences here I feel compelled to recommend Hiro Sushi again. The last time we were there we met another group of regulars and they also raved about the food and how much better Hiro is than any other area sushi spot. Once again, highly recommended.

One of the best hole-in-a-wall sushi places in New Jersey and truly authentic one. Place is quite small with few table and a bar but yet very cozy. Would definitely keep on coming back to this place.

The other Unilocaler was right… is supermarket sushi. I expected more from a Japanese chef! Now after this meal I have to go to somewhere else to eat my second dinner of the night ! Huge disappointment !

I’m glad to see this restaurant is doing well! My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of having dinner at this lovely little spot on the night of or before their opening. Everything was delicious and the owners were so sweet. They made sure we were having a pleasant experience which we definitely did! Lyndhurst was greatly lacking in fine sushi dining and I’m glad Hiro Sushi is striving! =) Sadly, we’ve moved from the state and we are unable to enjoy anymore of your delicious cuisine. :/

So it pains me to write this review as the servers were super nice and the chef was chatty BUT the food is kinda crap. Lets go through this — Service: very friendly and polite. Ambience: small joint with literally 3 tables. But clean and cute. Miso soup: very good. Food check back: none so no one cared if we liked the sushi Sushi: this is where the train goes off the rails. Spider roll and shrimp tempura rolls: not kidding but they were half the size of other places, and the worst part… you couldn’t taste the difference between shrimp and soft shell crab. WTF? Spicy tuna and other spicy rolls: super tiny and again could not tell you which was which and mainly because they dolloped a weird spicy sriracha mayo on them that tasted like crap and wasn’t actually spicy. It totally ruined the taste of the fish, if any. Again WTF is up with putting mayo on rolls. Oh and the menu doesnt specify this so… SOL. No offense but this if they are 4 stars, then so is supermarket sushi. Rarely have I been let wrong by Unilocalers. I’m still pissed that I spent money here and all I can taste in my mouth is mayo.

I went here with my family this evening based on a recommendation from a friend and it was a overall poor experience. First impression is the dine-in space is very small and tight. Unless you’re planning to sit at the sushi bar, there is only 1 table for 4, 1 table for 2 and a larger square table that looks like it designed for larger groups(seats around 12) or sharing. We wound up sharing the larger table, which was a little awkward because I was with my 2 young kids and we shared the table with a couple of college students that were talking about girls and dating experiences — not exactly the conversation I want my 6-yr old to hear. Second, the service was poor. We ordered a couple of apps, 3 rolls, and a udon soup for the kids. Apps came fine along with with my wife’s roll, but then they got my daughter’s roll wrong. We asked them to replace it and they were accommodating, but we never got the rest of our order! I never got my roll nor did my daughter’s replacement come. We complained to the waitress and finally got the udon soup about 45 minutes later. But still, the 2 remaining orders still did not come. Over an hour later, we complained again and the waitress was surprised that we didn’t get our orders. Keep in mind, my daughter wanted a avocado roll — over an hour and we still did not get her avocado roll! While we’re waiting, 2 customers came in about 10 mins. after us in the smaller table, ordered and ate their food, and then left while we were still waiting. The 2 waitresses just stood there chatting and made no attempt to check on our order. After over an hour and still no rolls, we told them to cancel our order and we just wound up paying for what we got and left. My daughter was still hungry over an hour later and had to pick her up something else on the way home. On top of the poor service, food was mediocre at best. Shrimp tempura was frozen and not fresh, the fish tasted frozen and not fresh and udon was a little underdone, although the kids liked it. Needless to say, our first experience here will also be our last. There are plenty of better options for sushi nearby.

By far the worst Japanese restaurant I’ve been to. Got to the restaurant at 5pm and the place was empty but they still manage to do the following: 1.) ordered an avocado roll with no sesame seed and they gave me a California roll. Told them I ordered an avocado roll with no sesame and they came back with avocado roll with sesame. 2.) ordered a tempura udon soup for my kids and it took 50 mins. Again other than another table, we were the only one there. 3.) husband ordered a spider roll and never got it. 4.). I order a sashimi appetizer and the fish were frozen. Took my daughter to the bathroom and peeped into the kitchen and there were food everywhere which was pretty gross. I also saw the cook pop frozen shrimp tempura into the microwave which means they don’t fry it fresh. Never going back.

Love this place! It’s so tiny and quaint. Which means the Sushi Chef takes his time making everything! We enjoyed all that we had. The Spicy Tuna roll was THE best I’ve had. Very spicy, the the texture was so soft and melt in your mouth. I also had the Tempura Udon which had an amazing taste, the broth especially. The boyfriend had 2 sea urchins which he enjoye ld and the Monster Roll. We also had the Chilean Sea Bass appetizer. It was a bit pricey for the slice we had, but the favor was amazing. We can’t wait to go back! If you are looking for quality sushi, this is the place to go.

So disappointing. Couldn’t wait to try after all of the awesome reviews. Can’t figure what the hype is about. Called in an order and was told that it would be 25 minutes. No prob. My husband showed up 25 minutes later for pickup. He was told that they were out of the sauteed spinach that we ordered. What are you going to do? He paid for the rest and THEN was told it would be another 35 minutes! Not right, but he waited. Okay, the food. Ordered the Chilean Seabass app. Love Chilean Seabass. So exited. Couldn’t believe what I saw…3 miniscule pieces of fish with NOTHING! It was okay, not fantastic, okay. For nine bucks??? The rest of the sushi was average at best. Very small rolls, not well made. So, food, service, value? No reason to give them a second chance. I really really wanted to like them. Oh well..

After an impromptu client cancellation, I decided to venture out to the new sushi spot in my town that I see every time I go to the bank. A bit weary and unsure of something new, as I consider myself to be a foodie and pretty picky when it comes to sushi. Having been to nobu several times you can say that once you get a taste of the«OMG» it’s pretty hard to go back to BS… I’ve attempted Nizi a few times and found the atmosphere and staff to be cold, and food only mediocre. Upon walking in, my first thought was«holy moly! This is the smallest restaurant I’ve ever been in!» I positioned myself at the sushi bar with saki bottle in hand and immediately felt a warm vibe from service and sushi chefs. «Ok! I can do this, I guess.» All I can say is, unlike other Unilocalers«Gretchen», «Jay» or «Denh», my experience was a warm, charming staff and impeccable sushi for the price and location. They were accommodating to my dietary restrictions reducing rice by more than half, the staff was personable, and the owner HIro, is not only sweet, but very charming. He surprised me with a few things I didn’t order just on sheer passion of showcasing his talent. Flavor explosions are the way to my heart. The fish was extremely fresh, the flavor was abundant, and the environment quaint and authentic. Pieces of decoration handmade by the owner himself… Look, if you want overpriced and trendy, this isn’t the place for you. If you want to enjoy your company and feel as if you just stepped into a small local restaurant in Japan, this is a wonderful find. I will most certainly be back! Thank you Hiro!

Finding this place has ended my search for a good sushi restaurant in the area. Compared to the other ‘sushi’ places in the area, this place does sushi right. You’ll find the place rather small. Seats about 20 people max. The inside is decorated tastefully and its is cozy inside. It feels like you are in a food truck. Road side parking is tough but plenty in the back side. I came here specifically for their Unagi-don and it was so-so. It was above average Unagi-don, but I’ve have such high standards for this particular dish. What they are good at is sushi. I sampled 3 pieces, the benchmark for any sushi place, tuna, yellowtail and mackerel. The rice, fish, texture, flavor, temp is very good. If you know sushi and want real sushi in the area, look no further. Stop by and give this place a try.

A lovely gem of a Japanese restaurant. Tiny in terms of seating but a great selection of well prepared and presented sushi, sashimi and kitchen prepared dishes. Staff is welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be returning and soon!

We love sushi and on this Saturday night date night we almost went to legal seafood but decided to come here after reading some really great reviews. Well we are glad we did. I live about 3 blocks from Nizi sushi which anyone from this area will tell you is the best around. Well it was with the original owner. The honest truth. Nizi is ok. Many people think it’s great because of the free mussels. This place is my new sushi place hands down. What a wonderful experience!!! Small place, street Peking directly across from the chase bank atm lot and Wendy’s parking. Has maybe enough seats for 5 at the sushi bar, 8 – 10 at tables. Quiet loveliness. We started with a couple miso soups and a dish of edamame $ 3.75 and a couple hot teas. Decent price for edamame. Served hot and salty. Yum. Then we moved into the next level of utopia. Hubby had his usual — sashimi platter. Very nice selection. Very very fresh and gorgeous presentation. 17 pieces for $ 19 beats the price of many places. I ordered spicy tuna don as I was in the mood for something creamy and spicy. Next a la cartel our usual. Octopus, albacore(white tuna) eel and when available– sea urchin. Hello baby they had urchin. The presentation was awesome. Octopus was baby octi! Who does that! This place. Can you taste it people ??? Desert was chefs special which was some lovely grapefruit and machi and some other little green fruit that I could’ve eaten all day. I HIGHLY recommend you run not walk to Hiro as soon as you can! And they’re real Japanese. Most places around here are Korean who do sushi.

After hearing about Hiro Sushi through word-of-mouth and some other reviewers, I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. 5⁄5 stars across the board. The service, friendliness of both Hiro and the staff, and the food is top notch. This is some of the best sushi I’ve had — and I love sushi. You can tell Hiro takes pride and passion in his sushi making. I ordered takeout for my first time going there and I ordered the Spider roll, Spicy Tuna roll, Tuna Nigiri, and Sweet Shrimp a la carte. Hiro also included a chef’s special piece of tuna with scallions and tobiko. Everything was fresh and delicious! Everyone was so welcoming and the food was delicious; I will most definitely be going back time and time again!

Finally, after the decades of dreaming and praying, we have a beautiful sushi place within the waking distance from our house. It is small, friendly, and intimate, just like a similar neighborhood sushi joint would be in San Francisco or Tokyo. The sushi master and his staff were all super-friendly and welcoming. Hiro Sushi is also authentic — meaning it’s run by a real Japanese sushi chef, a rarity in New Jersey. My wife and I had a blast eating, drinking BYOB beer, and observing the precision of two wonderfully attentive chefs working in unison and creating their artful edible magic. We can’t wait to go back!

Don’t take this lightly when I say that this restaurant rivals the sushi I’ve had in NYC. The chefs are friendly and the waitress is an adorable lady. But the sushi, let me tell you, is very delectable. I ordered the Eel and Salmon sashimi and was treated with free pieces of their Otoroo sashimi as well. Everything, and I do mean everything, melts in your mouth with flavor. I’m not certain if it’s the cut or the fish, but it was just so rich that I could have very well easily had more. The kicker is that this place is so very affordable! I’m heading back this week to try out the delicious entrees. I’m looking at you Unagi don.

— Really small place. — Customer service was above average. — Sakura roll was really good — Rest of sushi(Spicy Hiro roll, sashimi dinner, sashimi a-la-carte(yellowtail toro, scallops) was OK. — They ran out of Uni. — They gave us complimentary Mochi which was probably the best I’ve had. — For being in the medium/high price range, I thought it could have been better. — I had to run home afterwards to use the bathroom but my friend that I ate with was fine.

This is a really nice, brand new, quaint — sushi restaurant. It is very authentic, extremely high quality fresh food, and has a great staff. You are treated to quality food with a personal touch. Everything i’ve had here so far has been top notch. I recommend the Dragon Roll. Hiro has always been there when i’ve went and spoken to us. He actually cares about his food and his customers. It is crazy how rare that is. If you like sushi please do yourself a favor and check this place out
