Federal Crest Inn was definitely worth 5 stars. Ann and Phil(the innkeepers) were very nice and the accommodations very comfortable. Outstanding breakfast. Elegant with beautiful flowers. We recommend highly.

What an amazing weekend! I came back to spend some time with friends and I stayed here on a whim because, why not? It was a truly wonderful experience. This was my first bed and breakfast stay and I would do it again! From the greeting to breakfast I felt so welcomed. The house is located in the historic district and the owners will gladly tell you the history behind it. I loved hearing about their grandkids and they have such an interest in every visitor’s life. I would recommend this to anyone over a hotel experience.

I live in hotels around the world, Gold with the Marriott chain, Diamond with Choice Hotels, and have status with Priority Club, and the occasional B&B when the hotels sell out. The hosts were outstanding, and went out of the way to make me feel welcome. I received a chocolate one evening, and a batch of delicious, just out of the oven cookies the second evening. The breakfasts were delicious, much better than the hotel’s. I will likely be staying here if I was to come back to Lynchburg. The fact that they take American Express, have a government rate for Federal and State employees, and have pretty good WiFi, makes this a great location for a business trip.

I am so glad we found this beautiful house. The decorating is lovely, the gas fireplace in our room(we were in Willow) was cozy and inviting. Cookies were waiting when we arrived and breakfast was delicious. I would definitely come again.

This is one of the most comfortable bed and breakfast, I have stayed in. The owners Phil and Ann, know how to make you feel welcome. The property is well maintained.

Even though I am still an amateur b&b visitor, this is surely one of the best b&bs out there! I’m actually surprised there are no other Unilocal reviews for it because if you go to TripAdvisor or you’ll see plenty of rave reviews. The house itself is a beautiful mansion in a residential part of the historic Lynchburg downtown area — a few downhill blocks to various shops and sites and the city’s visitor center(keep in mind the city is known for its very steep hills, because of that we preferred to drive to the downtown area and park there to walk around). The house is very easy to find and has a small parking lot in the back. The owners are the Ripleys, a wonderful couple who really make your stay more special than you can even imagine. The attention to detail is incredible, including stuff like a welcome board with the names of the guests in the house(there was just one other person besides us and who we never met, which made for nice quiet breakfasts — we prefer our own company…). Really nice, welcoming detail. The interior is gorgeously decorated with a large sunny hallway on the downstairs floor that includes a butler statue and a table with a drink and fresh cookie selection, a small library(liberals like us beware — some items in the selection may scare you, but they are nice people anyway!), the dining room, a small gift shop that includes decorated glassware and pottery made Mrs. Ripley, and the kitchen. The guest bedrooms are upstairs. We stayed in the Willow Room, which was beautifully decorated and very cozy — I peeked in the other rooms as well(unused room doors were open) and they were all very nice as well. Our room included a very easy to use gas fireplace and rocking chair that we took full advantage of, a binder with information about the area as well as local magazines, a basket of snacks, and cozy robes with the b&b’s name on them. The room was so great we could barely leave it, especially with the fireplace which was also necessary in the evening when it did get a bit chilly. Breakfast was fantastic — the first morning was eggs benedict and a cup of brown sugar oatmeal, the second morning was french toast, bacon, and fruit salad. Both breakfasts also included a small freshly baked muffin with a sweet message in it — very thoughtful and cute! Towards the end of our breakfasts Mrs. Ripley came out and talked with us and was very kind. We saw less of Mr. Ripley because he had a cold(hope you’re better!) but had nice conversations with him as well. Both provided very good advice about sightseeing in the area, and had a well-stacked brochure rack as well. Oh and not to mention the other friendly house resident — an adorable jack terrier named Jackie, who is not afraid to ask for some belly rubs. So once again, wonderful stay, and wonderful b&b!

I can’t say enough good things about Federal Crest Inn. I had my wedding there, and we rented the whole place for the wedding party. The décor was gorgeous, the food was tasty with a beautiful presentation, and the hospitality of the innkeepers was first-rate. I live in California now, but plan to stay again the next time I’m in Lynchburg. Loved it, loved it, loved it!
