We booked the Sunridge Retreat through airbnb and it was a wonderful experience. The place was beautiful and a nice little getaway from the district. The amenities were great and included a hot tub(that could comfortably fit six, uncomfortably fit nine), a fire pit, a pretty sweet arcade room(with ping pong, pool, and air hockey), a playground set, and two porches with lovely views of the woods/mountains(see photo). The lodge fit the ten of us comfortably and easily could have handled a handful of more people. And, it was well-prepared for our visit: plenty of clean towels, fully-stocked and clean kitchenware, and clean blankets and sheets for the surprisingly comfy beds. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking to spend a weekend out Warning: We came down the night after a snowstorm and it was impossible for us to reach the place(icy uphill roads) even after the roads were plowed and salted. If you’re in a similar position, I recommend parking down the hill and walking up the rest of the way. It’ll save you a lot of trouble!

Can I move in here? Can I live here forever? Lounging on the sun deck, playing on the swing set or bubblin’ away in the hot tub — however you are hoping to relax, they have it for you here. Not to mention super easy booking, reasonable rates, and worry free clean-up when you leave. My sister and I booked the Sunridge Retreat, one of the 7 vacation rentals offered by Shenandoah Woods, about three months before her wedding. We wanted a casual, private space that could easily hold the small party of 30 and allow plenty of space for guests staying the night of the wedding. The property managers were sweet and answered emails promptly. They agreed to a site visit over a weekend that was unbooked and were super easy going about letting my sis and the groom-to-be wander the grounds unsupervised. There are two bunk rooms, a private room and a master suite with jacuzzi bath tub. The facility sleeps up to 24. There is an EPIC game room with air hockey, pool, ping pong, and a few old arcade games. Two laundry facilities on-site, three bathrooms, and two fridges made it really comfortable for everyone to hang out without being on top of each other for the three day affair. I think this spot is typically used for corporate retreats. If you are wedding hunting and want a property that will photograph beautifully, I would say this may not be the spot. It is a square, two-story property that is very nice, but not overly decorated and has some unmatching furniture. For us –casual group of mostly 20-somethings and a few parents — PERFECTO. Outside is where the great photos will happen. The view of the Blue Ridge Mountains outback was stunning and it made the two wrap-around decks very popular post-ceremony spots. There’s even a playground out back — my mom was swingin’ up a storm! Oh — word to the GPS addicts out there — it can be a trying place to find if you’re not careful — but of the 30 guests, only one wandered, lost, for 45 minutes — the rest were able to navigate even in dark, stormy weather. Overall, it could not have gone better or been better. They ask for $ 15 for trash removal — super fair — and my sis had her deposit returned in no time. For what we got, the prices were unstoppable! Great spot. Great memories. May host a 5-year anniversary there too!
