I ate the chopped beef sandwich. The beef must be mixed with something to make it a creamy consistency. It was not good at all. I didn’t care for the beans or potato salad. The rolls were the best thing, but they were very oily. My husband says I should give their ribs a try. Maybe I will.

Lufkin BBQ is a long standing business in Lufkin, Tx. The service is good and friendly. The fried yeast rolls are great. I love BBQ and I am super critical of it. The BBQ here is decent but not great. The meat is tender and you can see the smoke ring on the meat. It was however a bit dry for brisket. I believe the prices would be reasonable if the portioning was just a little more generous for the meat. Not sure if I like the mashed potatoes as they seem to have pickles in them. The coleslaw not too shabby. Overall a pretty good experience but not going to be one of my regular food joints to visit.

The high rating is probably due to this place being one of the many great tastes of my childhood. All in all, even into adulthood I visit home and it keeps being good. The flavor of smoke and sauce always comes together nicely. The ribs are always my favorite though the half chicken is a close second.

65+ yrs of business means they are doing something right! Homemade fried rolls dipped in their secret BBQ sauce is the best! Ribs, sausage & turkey are drool worthy! Great service & friendly environment.

The ribs are tender. The brisket has a good flavor but a little dry for my tastes. The chicken was juicy and had a good Smokey flavor. The one thing I didn’t care for was the potatoes salad which was mashed potatoes with veggies stirred into it. I always prefer potatoes salad in chunk potatoes so the dressing coats the potatoes and the vegetables are blended in to enhance the salad. The beans were excellent. The fried bread was also good and served with honey.

the bbq sandwich was good enough, but not a good value as a combo with $ 3 more for a 50 cent small bag of chips and a big cup of ice with a few ounces of liquid in it. I went thru the drive thru so can’t comment on the inside things

Local folks recommended me this place, but really disappointed. Deep fried dinner roll, dried BBQ ribs, boring chicken, poor service etc…

Had the chopped beef sandwich plate… not impressed. Not remotely a traditional flavor. The potato salad was mashed potatoes with an odd flavor that wasn’t a good odd at all. I do not recommend. Better off visiting another establishment.

Fried rolls are awesome! Ribs are pretty good too! I think this is the best BBQ in Lufkin.

Was disappointed… my husband brought it home and I took one bite and got up from just having surgery and cooked dinner instead. So disappointed. Will not go here again. I go to other bbq establishments. Or cook at home.

Not enough beef or turkey on a combo. For $ 8 need more than two pieces on a large sandwich bun.

After seeing the place on CBS Sunday morning, we wanted to give it a try. The pork ribs are to die for and the plates are huge. There are no extra charges, as one reviewer claimed. In fact, they give you a to go cup for you to take when you leave. And they are Texas NICE. No beer.

Darn good barbecue, if you ask me. I like the chopped beef, which comes with the sauce already added. Get the plate and they throw in beans and mashed potatoes. Oh, and yes, everyone loves the fried dough balls. They’re good. If you’re in a hurry they have drive-thru service. I prefer to come in and sit, however, as the ambiance and service are awesome.

The old, gray mare ain’t what she used to be. Once THE place for barbecue, the sad truth is that Lufkin BBQ has experienced a steady decline over the past several years. Meats are ok. Sides are ok. We’ve noticed inconsistencies in the potato salad, which is our standard side order. Sometimes it’s just right, while others it’s much too heavy on the black pepper. Rolls are still good but they are cost prohibitive, as the majority of the menu has become. We eat here every now and then, mainly because we can’t seem to let go of what it *used* to be and we usually get decent service at the drive-thru.

Had some time to kill while visiting a friend as I was driving across the south/southwest and went to Lufkin BBQ. I got the 3 meat combo but did a double order of ribs because, well, ribs are awesome The Highlights: 1) The Pork Ribs– GREAT crust and flavor yet juicy meat. One of the better sets of ribs I’ve eaten 2) Fried Rolls with honey– heavy but really delicious I had the smoked turkey as well and it was meh honestly– descent flavor but a bit dry and weird consistency, almost like processed meat. Service was great, the atmosphere is local and casual. Verdict: go get some ribs!

Sadly, this place has really declined over the past several years. Upon entering the place and being wrapped in the aroma of smoky goodness, you have high expectations. Unfortunately, when the meal is served(brisket plate) those high hopes are dashed. The meat portion was so small it was insulting. The meat was unacceptably tough/chewy, and tasted like it had been oven-cooked rather than actually smoked. The fried rolls are still a big win, but man can not live on fried rolls alone.

We were making our way to Lake Sam Rayburn when after a 3.5 hour drive we decided we needed some nourishment for the last hour. I said«no junk food» and this is where we ended up. We couldn’t eat inside since we had our pups with us but we ordered ½ lb of turkey and brisket to go. The brisket was moist but probably needed a bit more smoke. The turkey was also moist and well-flavored. The bbq sauce is vinegary and tomatoey but lacking in spices. Apparently they charge for everything here. You want bbq sauce to go with your meats? That’ll cost you — and they don’t have anything smaller than a ½ pint. They also charge for bread! BBQ places should never charge for plain ol’ white bread. It was decent for what we needed but probably not worth revisiting on our next lake trip.

The last time I was in town I tried out Bryan’s Smokehouse, but I wasn’t going to make that mistake again. I decided instead to sample Lufkin Bar-B-Q, which is interestingly only a block away from Bryan’s. I had several barbecue stops planned for my drive home, so I didn’t want to fill up too much. I settled on a Half Plate of sliced beef(aka brisket, at least I really hoped). There weren’t too many options for side dishes, but potato salad and beans would do just fine. The potato salad was basically just warm mashed potatoes with some veggies mixed in for crunch. The flavors were ok, but definitely not the German-style potato salad I’m used to in Central Texas. As for the beans, they had a really good flavor to them. They needed a little spiciness to round things out. Others have raved about Lufkin Bar-B-Q’s complimentary dough rolls, but to me they were nearly inedible. They had the texture of a really dense doughnut, and mine were a little raw and chewy in the middle. The brisket had a good black crust and a pronounced smoke ring. There wasn’t much smoke to the brisket, but it wasn’t completely absent either. What stood out the most, unfortunately, was the undercooked meat which failed miserably on the«accordion test.» It took way too much effort to pull the meat apart across the grain. Lufkin Bar-B-Q was only slightly better than Bryan’s Smokehouse had been, although maybe it’s more accurate to say that it was just differently bad.

Brisket — was chewy and tasted like microwaved store packaged precooked brisket. Turkey — sub par. BBQ Sauce — burnt; obviously had been sitting in the burner way too long. Fried Rolls — pretty good Cole Slaw — pretty good Bottom line is you go to a BBQ joint to eat meat; not the cole slaw and fried rolls. I will FORSURE be avoiding this BBQ joint in the future; just go to Bodacious if you are in East Texas.
