We had lunch at Autlan today, thanks to recommendations from Unilocalers. It was as fantastic as the previous reviews said. We had tacos and ordered a side of refried beans per the review by Will C. Delicious and fresh. I loved that the tacos come with both fresh chopped and grilled onions. Don’t overlook the salsa bar; there are some fine additions there too. We will be in Lubbock for three days and will definitely go back before we leave for home.

Amazing mexican food. The green sauce is my fav and the cheese enchildas were so good. They served the tortilla chips with verde sauce which is different from the usual red sauce but it was fresh and v good. Recommend.

Best menudo in town! Seriously, if you like menudo you need to come here and try theirs. That is all I have ordered here besides the chips and salsa which are also great. Would definitely recommend to a friend!

Hands down the best al pastor and chicken tacos. I’m usually lazy in writing reviews and all, but people HAVE to know about this place! It’s just that good.

Love the street tacos weekend nights! I believe they sell them until midnight as well, so perfect for late night indulgence! Just make sure to bring cash!

This hole-in-the-wall looking Mexican restaurant is a treasure– I’m so grateful we found it while visiting Lubbock. The chips and salsa are both fresh and the salsa is perhaps the best I’ve ever eaten! This is basic Mexican food that’s served up just right!

Thursday-Sunday they have street tacos cooking outside in front of their restaurant. They only accept cash and only speak Spanish mostly. These are the best al pastor tacos I have every had outside of Mexico. They are fresh and cheep! I haven’t eaten in their actual restaurant, but I will back their tacos to anyone!

Best tacos al pastor in Lubbock that I’ve had! I can’t vouch for their other menu items because I can’t stop ordering the four taco combo. I would give 5 stars for the delish food and value except the margaritas kind of taste like jolly ranchers… Not sure if there’s any tequila in them. I’ll always come here when I have street taco cravings nonetheless.

Being from California I am hard to please with Mexican food. This place did not disappoint. I had the bistec ranchero and it was excellent. The right mix of spices added to the flavor. Rice and beans were also good. Staff was attentive and friendly.

In 25 years of coming to Lubbock, THEBESTMEAL I HAVEHADHERE!!! Tender fresh tortillas filled with your choice of authentic fillings prepared simply and with a focus on the meat will satisfy any taco aficionado. Walk up to the outdoor stand and place your order, then pay(cash only) and go inside to eat. We tried three of the 4 meats: barbarcoa, carnitas, and carne Al pastor. We were not quite in the mood for Bunche, or we’d hav e tried that too :) Barbarcoa was tender, moist and flavorful, decadent with chunks of fat and seasoned with just a little salt. Barbacoa is a barometer of excellence and by this measure Taqueria Atlan is A+ — and that’s before we had the carnitas! Perfect Carnitas can be very dry or very soupy, but they should be moist and not too drippy, shot through with large chunks of pork. Yes, of course the carnitas here lived up that that high standard! Carne Al pastor is the chopped variety, not the shaved rotisserie style but the meat was nonetheless well done and the vinegar was not too heavy in the marinade. That there was a steady stream of Mexicanos tells you that this is an authentic taqueria not to be passed up, just because it may be a little out of your Anglo comfort zone. Those places have the best tacos, so be not afraid and you will be rewarded!

Autlan has, without a doubt, the best refried beans I have ever eaten. You might think refried beans to be a dish so simple as to be immune from greatness. If so, you have never been to Autlan. Go. Now. It will change the way you think about refried beans. Also, the servers are extremely friendly, the salsa is good and quite unique, they have a great sauce bar(which includes awesome marinated jalapeños), and they sell fresh bakery items to go. Seriously, go now.

I just got back from LA, and I have to honest here, Autlan’s was just as good. Their food had some complex flavors in it that was unexpected. This is one of the few bright spots in lubbock dining. The food was more traditional than other Mexican restaurants in town, which was nice. Oh, I almost forgot, when I ordered a dish with beef in it, it didn’t come as ground beef! Thank goodness. Californians, I recommend this place highly.

Love this place! Their caldo de pollo is so hearty it got me through when I was super sick. And their tacos are amazing! It’s just tortilla, meat, cilantro, and onion. Simple and delicious — you can add any salsa you want from the salsa bar, too. Their chips and salsa makes me feel so guilty because I cannot stop eating. The service is good, too. I can see myself coming back quite frequently now. Their torta was a bit too heavy for my taste, though.

This place used to be the Mar Y Tierra. I think they have parlayed what they had going on into a much more expanded menu set while keeping the authentic Mexican tradition. They still have the great salsa bar and seafood selections. They also have the shrimp cocktail which used to be my favorite at Mar Y Tierra. I had the Steak and Chilaquiles with fried eggs on top for breakfast and it was outstanding(see my pic)! I’ll be back for many visits.
