A very expansive modern park with a diverse set of activities. Hike, bike, paddle or run. Once the full park is complete this year it will be an amazing addition to the city.

Everything looks beautiful and well maintained. Massive amount of space, with a lot of activity opportunities! Hiking, walking and biking paths. Fishing spots(license required). A group of us came here for canoeing and kayaking, operated by Green Earth outdoors. We were all impressed with the park system and the absolute loveliness of the park. It is very certainly out of the way, but it’s worth the trip!

Come check out this brand spanking new addition to the Louisville park system in East Louisville! The Parklands, once completed in 2015, will stretch from Shelbyville Rd to Bardstown Rd, encompassing 4 parks: Beckley Creek Park, Pope Lick Park, Turkey Run Park and Broad Run Park. Beckley Creek Park is now open to the public. It’s well worth the long drive down Shelbyville Road past the Gene Snyder, Beckley Creek Park entrance is across from the Vahalla golf course(look for the pastel color silos). It’s a beautiful place to hike, bike(mountain and road), fish, paddle and just have fun! A majority of the park has access to the creek, so great for those who love the water like myself(I’ve spotted a few turtles on my walks). The nature center is large and right next to the new play ground. Grab a buddy, a bike or a four legged friend and head out to this hidden gem before the whole city discovers it.

Discovering a new outdoor destination is always a treat and Louisville seems to be a smörgåsbord of amazing! On a recent fair weather day, I joined several people for a hike. The destination was new to me, although I quickly realized I had crossed over the park hundreds of times as I drove east on I-64. Conveniently located near the intersection of I-64 and the Gene Snyder, Beckley Creek Park is a beautiful, rolling expanse of open fields, wooded hollows, and picturesque streams. I only meandered through about half of the park, making my way from the entrance on Shelbyville to the Egg Lawn, but I was impressed at the variety of scenery I encountered. As always happens when I am out in nature and feeling inspired, I could envision myself partaking in any number of outdoors pursuits, from picnics on the open lawns to kayaking, maybe a bike ride on the paved path or fishing in any of the several ponds. In any case, I can’t wait to come back and make some of those imaginings a reality. We’re truly lucky in Louisville to have such beautiful spaces to enjoy the outdoors. As the weather warms up, you’ll be able to find me discovering the greatest of the green in the Bluegrass state!
