I went here based on previous reviews and am glad to say it was as good as billed. Food was wonderful, service was fast and friendly and facilities were clean. The menu isn’t huge, but everything we had was delicious! Highly recommended.

I have been posting in the Tips, but I think putting this in the reviews will help more people see it, thus saving them a trip. As I mentioned in Tips, I went there last week, a few days before my Living Social certificate was due to expire; a co-worker went with me – and imagine our disappointment to see a sign in the window saying CLOSED — THANKSFOR3GREATYEARS. You could even see the boxes being packed. I called Living Social immediately, which promised to check into the matter, which was understandable; after all, if a deal could be made(extending the certificate date for instance) and they were moving to a new location, I would have been agreeable. It took Living Social less than a week to get back to me with the information, and the email stated the following in answer to my question as to whether they had definitely gone out of business: «We were not able to verify that they were out of business but all signs were pointing towards that.» My refund is now in the works. Thank you Living Social. So that seems to be it for Queenie’s, which is a shame because it was a good concept and I enjoyed the couple of times I went there. But it also stinks(and is very unprofessional) that their website was up and going the afternoon my coworker and I were going — and I only just checked and it is STILLINPLACE as if it’s business as usual. No wonder Unilocal readers keep going there. My suggestion is if you still want good fried chicken(and some awesome fried jack salmon) try Indi’s. The reviews are on Unilocal

Much to my dismay, this place has gone out of business.(and the star ranking is not real since I’ve never actually eaten there, but I had to put something in to post this)

So I finally made it over to Queenies for the first time. I found a sign: «Closed. Thanks for a great 3 years!» I cried. Then I left.

Love this place!!! Was living in Louisville for 2 months and went there at least 4 times. Fried chicken is great, cornbread is sweet AND moist. Staff was super friendly and my drink was never empty. I’m from the south and I mean the deep south and this is great soul food.

Although I grew up with«country cooking» — greens, green beans, cornbread, fried chicken and fish, etc. — I’m not the biggest fan of getting it at a restaurant. This is the kind of food that seems to really taste best when you make it at home; it’s bound up in love and nostalgia and childhood for me, and restaurant versions often fail to live up to that admittedly high standard. But after reading all the favorable views, I thought it couldn’t hurt to give it a try, especially since my boyfriend had really been on a kick about some good fried chicken lately. I went in a group of four, and most of us ordered fried chicken with various sides, although one person ordered the fried fish. The service was, as others noted, very good. Attentive, friendly, and quick. First off, the fried chicken was very good. I do prefer mine with a little breading, but this was the dip it in buttermilk and flour variety, so it had a nice thin, crispy layer of batter around it, and a non-greasy, juicy interior. But the sides … oh, the sides. «Cornbread» comes with your meal, whichahould really be called corn«cake» it is so sweet. Now, I know that many northerners like their cornbread sweet and don’t understand the southern tradition of dry, unsweetened cornbread. I also realize that Queenie’s doesn’t style itself as «southern» per se, just as «soul food.» But this was the sweetest cornbread I’ve ever encountered and what really threw me was that it had cinnamon in it. Cinnamon?! Hm. I should have kept this in mind before diving into the corn pudding, but I was still surprised to be met with a predominant taste of cinnamon and nutmeg rather than corn. That got pushed aside pretty quickly. The blackeyed peas were not bad, although they tasted like they had a fair amount of vinegar in them, something I’ve also never considered putting in with blackeyed peas, unless you were seasoning them at the table as you would with collard or mustard greens. I did taste the dressing with gravy, which was ok, but the gravy was over-thickened and too salty for my taste. The other diners at our table liked the mashed potatoes, which are real, not instant, but the person who got fish was disappointed at the scrappy fillets which were so thin, they kind of disappeared into the batter. I think catfish may have been a better choice for fish here. I’d feel like I’m being a bit too harsh on Queenie’s based on the otherwise favorable comments on here, but after living in Mississippi for a while and eating a good amount of soul/country cooking, I just don’t think it quite lives up to the hype. Maybe it’s just a matter of geographically-based cultural difference, but I think I’ll just stick to home cooking when I get a craving for a good country meal.

I’m from California and was in Louisville this past weekend. My dad, brother, and I were hungry after a long flight so I looked«soul food» up on Unilocal and it led us to this restaurant. I was so happy it did! Being from out of the area I really wanted to eat fried chicken and other typical southern foods. The fried chicken was the best I ever had! Not greasy or oily but still moist and tender. It was delicious! I tried some of my dad’s salmon croquettes and they were delicious as well. The sauce was to diiiieeeee for. The service was on point. We were greeted by our waiter and two of the chef’s introduced themselves and made sure we were enjoying our food. They also told us about some cool spots to hit up during our stay. The one thing that caught my attention was how polite everyone was! My dad and brother were addressed as, «sir». We NEVER get that kind of treatment out in the Bay. All in all, Queenie’s has good food and even better hospitality. If I am ever in the area again I’ll be hitting this place up for sure!

Hole in the wall and definitely not a place you’d stumble upon, but my foodie friend said it was supposed to be good, and she is picky and pretty much right every time! The décor is kinda non-existent. This isn’t a place where you go for the atmosphere, a romantic date, or a night out on the town. This is where you go to eat. I will say, I’m surprised there aren’t more soul food places here, I guess I was spoiled in MS. It is like comfort food meets southern food to the T. You come here to understand how greens can be cooked to taste good(a plus to add a bit of pepper sauce). Mac and cheese, corn puddin. Even kids will like these veggies(though you may never be able to cook them well enough for them again). The fried chicken is of course amazing and I wasn’t as sold on the salmon croquette but what was I thinking on ordering it in the first place. I’ll have to go back for the meatloaf one of these days. Oh, and you must get cornbread. Mmm mm good.

We went there after seeing so many great reviews. But I’m a bit confused about why the other reviews were so positive. We did like the sweet corn bread and potato salad. The rest of the meal weren’t all that awesome. The fried chicken was a bit dry and the pieces look like they shrunk under the heat lamp. I don’t think the chicken has been marinated but just rolled in flour with salt and pepper. The waffles were underdone and had plenty of nutmeg in it. My savory corn pudding also had an abundance of nutmeg in it. I’m not sure if it is the southern way, but I did not like it. I should have gotten the mac and cheese. It looked really good on another table. With so many other places where I can get better chicken, I’m not sure if I would go back for one more time.

Good southern food you can’t find easily in this town. Went there the first week they opened, employees are very nice and eager to please. Seated right away, order and drinks quickly. Food comes out in no time at all. Most difficult part is deciding what to have especially when you try and peek at what everyone else has that looks good. Only downside to the place is that it doesn’t feel, comfortable. I would like to see some large booths for starters. Not sure how to make it feel like somewhere you want to hangout but it needs that touch. Feels more like a cafeteria than restaurant. Expand the menu with unique items you can’t find in the ville and it would be even better

So because of the living social deal, I found out about this place. I would say its the best southern food in the Louisville area, yes and I mean it. My family went with me and each of us got something different. My sister got the HUGE portions of fried fish, catfish I think. Fantastic breading and accompanied by mac and cheese. She enjoyed it. Mom got the salmon croquettes. Which in my opinion was the best dish on the table. Great flavor and breading and comes with a horseradish sauce. I was dipping my cornbread in it because it was so good. Dad had smothered porkchops. They were very tender and juicy and the gravy made it I had the fried chicken. Which was very good, not too greasy and I had black eyed peas and«angel eggs» which were extremely good deviled eggs. Great sweet tea. This place will start becoming a very popular place soon. Get there and eat some great southern/soul food!!!

This was our second visit to this great local spot. Among us, we give rave reviews to the corn bread, slaw, potatoes and chicken. The friendly staff makes it such a relaxing place to eat. True comfort food in a comforting place! Can’t wait to try breakfast, my favorite meal. :)

Queenie’s was hoppin’ tonight! The fried chicken couldn’t have been better(although many southern moms would disagree), the sides were authentic(YES we’re talking homemade mashed potatoes and gravy) and even my son’s chicken and waffles could have fed two. I had a bite of a friend’s cornbread stuffing and I wasn’t a huge fan, but everything else I tried was spot-on. I didn’t have room for a slice of the sweet potato pie(the kid overruled me with Baskin Robbin’s down on the other end of the shopping court) but I need to check that out. I also need to come back and try their breakfast buffet, if dinner was that good imagine what early morning grub will be like? And I have to try the smothered porkchops, which the neighboring table swore by… if it isn’t obvious, I plan on going back — and soon. Their one miss is that the serving staff was a bit out of sync, wait times for food were expected but refills were hard to come by and our orders got a bit jumbled. But they more than made up for it with their friendliness and hospitality. Bonus points for cleanliness(thank you Queenie’s, since my son finds an excuse to go to every public restroom he can), a lively take-out business, a chill, inviting ambiance, and free wifi. Our server, Rashad, told us that Queenie’s has been open since last January. One year and going strong! Support a local establishment, and walk away feeling fully satisfied.

Louisville best kept secret!!! Granted this place has only been open for 4 weeks but I have to say, it is delicious! Located in Hikes Point(close to the Walgreens on Taylorsville rd) this place is not what you expect! The restaurant is modern, clean and the staff very, very friendly. The owner checked with us several times and made sure we were being truly taken care of but what really makes this pace is the amazing food. I tasted the fried chicken dinner and the chicken and a waffle, the food was so tasty and hot and the selection was fairly priced. Dinner dishes are served with a basked of corn bread which was also really good. They are open for breakfast on Saturdays and lunch and dinner the other days, very worth it a try.
