We ate here for lunch on Tuesday of this week. When we arrived there was only one other couple there and they left shortly after we arrived. We ordered the beer cheese pretzels, which are kind of like breadsticks. The flavor wasn’t bad, but it was beyond obvious that their method of heating them up was the microwave(and for too long) because on the bottom they were soggy, yet rock hard and within a few minutes the remaining one was entirely hard. I got the steak sandwich which was equally as disappointing– the steak was so hard/chewy that I couldn’t chew it enough to swallow it so I finally spit it out. My husband got the fish and chips which was ok– the fish was pretty decent and the fries were just standard, nothing special fries. The waitress was good, friendly, and refilled our drinks quickly. But the food was not good at all and definitely not worth the $ 30 we spent on the food(not including tip) and they really have no excuse since they weren’t cooking food for anyone else. So save your money and eat someplace else. But if you have to eat here, stick with the fish and chips.

So there I was on a Friday night, craving Shepherd’s Pie something fierce. On top of that it was payday. I utilized my trusty dinner guide( Unilocal, of course) to help me wade through the options, sifting through pub after pub. Most of them had your run of the mill bar food(nachos, burgers, chicken wings, etc) and I had my heart set on traditional Irish food, so off to Molly Malone’s I went. It was surprisingly slow for a Friday night and a good chunk of the dinner crowd seemed to be dining on the patio because of the nice weather. It was too toasty for me, so my friend and I sat inside. Service felt slow despite the fact that our food came out fast, so I will deduct a star for that. Our waitress didn’t really visit our table much either. All that aside, the food was fantastic. My friend and I both ordered Shepherd’s Pie. She got it with a side of chips(fries) and I got it with a side of Mac and cheese. I also got a Tullamore Dew with Sprite, which was very strong(definitely not complaining). The Shepherd’s Pie was so hot that I had to let it sit for about ten minutes, which I didn’t like, but once I finally go to dig in it was absolute heaven! The stew inside was rich and the mashed potatoes on top were creamy. The Mac and cheese was also AMAZING! I’m thinking it was white cheddar but I’m not sure as it does not specify on the menu. Once I saw Bailey’s Irish Crème Cheesecake I knew that we had to stay for dessert. My friend got the bread and butter pudding and both were to die for. The cheesecake tasted pretty strongly of Bailey’s(again– not complaining) and it was drizzled all over with chocolate. Yum! I also tried my friend’s pudding. Equally as delicious. I gotta mention that the food here is pretty pricey, but definitely well worth it. Thanks Molly Malone’s! You hit the spot. I will definitely be back.

We had the most memorable night of the Kentucky Derby Weekend in this family ran, clean and bright Irish Pub. We spent a Sunday hoping from bar to bar on Baxter Ave, and we arrived at Molly Malone’s at 4 in the afternoon and never left till after midnight. We sat in the front bar and we might have well been on the patio, the sun light and the air flow and the great service by a bartender from Cork with Red Hair. I have the Curry Fries and they reminded me of Supermac’s(if you’re Irish you realize that is a high compliment!). The family that own the pub were present and meeting the customers, ever managed to have a sing along as the night went on. In the entire weekend of horse racing and Louisville touring, the most memorable day(and we al 4 agreed) was the afternoon at Molly Malone’s. I am a bartender in Boston at an Irish Pub and I have and will recommend it people traveling to Kentucky.

What’s not to like about this place? Open areas where you can be outside enjoying fresh air and at the same time you’re inside. The food is legit and came out quickly. They have all of the usual Irish beer and whiskey suspects and the service was fast but laid back. Sit in the front patio area, have a couple of pints and watch the world go by.

Only the second time eating at this location. Unfortunately had decided to change their great pretzel and beer cheese. It is now pretzel rods they’re just quite honestly are not very good and beer cheese which is kind of blah. I will give props for the lamb stew as it was very good. Overall I would come back but I do wish they go back to their Gourmet pretzel and beer cheese that they used to offer as the new one is not work 7.99 as an appetizer.

We love traditional Irish eats, and out of the three«Irish pubs» sitting in this one spot, Molly Malone’s had the best traditional Irish selection. The atmosphere was awesome. Good music, good food. We’ve typically only ever are at the Irish Rover, but seeing as they are closed on Sundays, we took a chance here and I am glad that we did! I prefer my scotch eggs with mustard and batter around my sausage, but the spicy mayo without the batter was a nice twist. Definitely not so heavy, so we were able to eat our meal. I had bangers and mash(not typical, I would have preferred potato gratin, Brussels sprouts and salmon, but eh) and they have a caramelized onion gravy on top that is to die for! If you are visiting Louisville, please do stop for a bite.

Food and drinks are a little pricy . The Irish Breakfast is one of my favorite meals in Louisville. The black and white pudding is amazing . Great draft and bottle section of beer and an even better selection of Irish whiskey and scotch. Great for soccer fans also!

Service is fine but these scotch eggs are horrid. Go to the Irish rover if you want real Irish food!

I haven’t eaten here in a very long time due to some previously bad food experiences. Once again they proved to still be bad at food. I called in carry out and was ready in about 20 minutes. When I got home the salad I ordered was missing half the vegetables that were supposed to be on it. The salmon was very burnt. The asparagus was so over cooked it was chewy. I also found half a tooth pick in the dill sauce. N endless to say I will never give the good here another chance again.

Went here for trivia on a Thursday night. Their patio looked really nice, but trivia was indoors in the back room. Our waiter was friendly and gave suggestions on what to drink. Menu had a great selection, I had some potato skins which were delicious.

This place has a very cool old Irish pub look and feel. Good size place for any size party. The menu and beer selection is very nice as well.

3 words, Fish n Chips. Oh my God they were so good, like comparable to the real thing from England or Ireland good. Only down side to the meal was it was so hot and fresh I kept burning my mouth as I tried to eat it, so a good problem to have. My husband had yhe lamb stew, which was good, but not as good as the fish :) Ad to that the fact that they have a huge patio amd are dog friendly, and this is soon to be my favorote place to eat. Tuesdays they also have special beers where you keep the glass. Mine was about $ 7 for the beer and $ 11 for the entrée. They also do chips and curry if you need a tasty snack. I will definitely be back.

I’m here pretty regularly due to the place being within easy walking distance of my house. There are a few Irish-style pubs on this strip of Baxter, none of which are truly Irish, but I like this one the best. The patio is beautiful in a raised space above the street level, so it’s not as noisy as other restaurants in the area. Indoors, it’s comfy with plenty of seating and gorgeous stained glass windows, although the lighting is consistently too bright for it to be truly authentic. The menus vary between the St Matthews Molly Malone’s with some overlap, and the Highlands Molly Malone’s definitely has the better menu options in my opinion. The Highlands location has several more vegetarian options which are quite good. I almost always get the vegetarian shepherds pie when I’m here because I don’t know of anywhere else in Louisville where I can get vegetarian shepherds pie, and a side of curry chips because they’re bizarre yet endearing. Until last autumn, they had a tofu sandwich but it was discontinued and I’m pretty sure I actually cried in the restaurant the day I found it absent from the menu.

This place is awwright. Good beers on draft. Good bar. Bad ass Irish-bloke game is played out. Cool it tard! I got it, you’re Irish…(So am I). Better off just being cool & pouring pints. Not horrible. Not spectacular.

By far the worst thing about Molly Malone’s are the Americans that come in saying that they’re Irish, and wearing stupid shirts that say«Made in Ireland» or something. Other than that, it’s a good place. Food is average to decent. Beer is normally priced, I guess. Where MM’s is awesome — they show English Premier League soccer, rugby, Gaelic sports, etc. My wife is English, and she loves her England soccer. When the World Cup is on, there is NO better place to go. And it’s full of Brits and Irish. So my wife feels right at home. The Irish wannabe Americans are incredibly annoying, though.

There has been well-spoken turnover in the kitchen, and it shows… badly. My past three meals here have been particularly bland and poorly cooked. This time around: Pest Grilled Chicken tasted like something out of a Lean Cuisine box, but with less flavor. The cauliflower side I had with it was an obvious straight-from-the-freezer-to-the-steamer and lacked ANY seasoning. I think it’s time for another kitchen turnover here…

The patio is nice. The food was disappointing. I ordered the Shepherd’s Pie and found it to be bland and oily.(No, Irish food isn’t always bland.) The service was mediocre. There’s good people watching at Molly Malone’s, though. If you happen to be a sociology or psychology student and want to observe that odd, unsettling combination of self-importance and insecurity in full bloom, this is your location.
