Everything we ordered had a bitter flavor, the meat was way overcooked, and even the chips seemed old and as though they were cooked in rancid oil and the salsa was really watery.

Casa Alegre is place where we come every now and then. I always order a Mexican pizza and a blended strawberry virgin margarita. The margarita is perfectly blended with the right amount of strawberry and the right amount of ice to balance it out. The Mexican pizza is very satisfying! I have gotten it with both chicken several times and this last time I tried it with ground beef which was equally as yummy! The favors all have a great balance with each other and the guacamole is the perfect bite to finish it. In the past, I have also had the nachos and the chicken enchiladas. The enchiladas are divine! The nachos are a great appetizer to start out your meal. Then, you can finish your meal with the perfect sopapillas. They are delicious fried dough topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and cinnamon sugar. They are a perfect way to end a meal here at Casa Alegre! I would definitely recommend this place to people of all ages.

I was treated very poorly by the manager and was charged $ 44 for one pitcher of margaritas. The margarita was terrible and the meal was mediocre. We will never return here!

$ 44 for a two-shot pitcher of margarita?! Did I teleport to Manhattan or something!!! A watered down margarita served in a cheap plastic 99 cent pitcher — imagine our surprise when the check was delivered and I saw the price! The food was so-so and the lack of understanding from both the waiter AND the manager was enough to keep me from returning or from ever recommending this restaurant. The manager was rude and definitely needs some training in customer service. I’ll take my money elsewhere.

Went with a group of 10 people. Everything was delicious. Shrimp fajitas, tortilla soup, Vallarta soup, pastor tacos, fresh lime margaritas were all very good. Service was wonderful! Great personality, everything was timely, perfect table maintenance. Also a great value. Prices are extremely reasonable. Awesome place!

Don’t know what happened to this place. It used to be good, but the last time we went it was terrible. They now charge for chips and salsa, which is ridicules. The menu is now way overpriced when compared to any comparable Mexican restaurant like 3 Margaritas or Corona. The worst part is that 2 of the 3 entrees ordered at our table literally tasted like dirt. It was like they tool it outside, dropped it on the ground rolled it around and then melted cheese over it. There are too many good authentic Mexican places to eat nearby(like the ones mentioned above), and too many really good restaurants in downtown Louisville(Waterloo, LuLu’s, Huckleberry to name a few) to to go here. Should be 1 star but gave it 2 in case you get lucky and have a decent meal like they used to make. My family won’t be going back.

I found a tooth, yes a tooth in my soup and no, it wasn’t mine! We ordered some menudo soup to go. When we arrived home and served it, to our disgusted surprise, I had a TOOTH in the menudo. We went back and talk to the owner, Gustavo, who refused to give his last name and only spoke over the phone. We confronted him with the issues and asked him what is he going to do to improve the quality control in his kitchen. His simple reply was to ask if we were sure and that he did not want to discuss this matter over the phone. No solution offered, no refund, nothing! I’ll contact the Health Dept on Monday, to ensure they enforce some type of quality control.

This is our favorite Mexican restaurant for many reasons: the food is fresh, always consistent and the servers are very friendly. The added bonus is that the kids love to play out on the patio and no one minds their presence. The train usually rolls through while we are eating dinner and the kids(ours and everyone else’s kids too) climb up on the fence or the stage to watch it rumble by. The drinks are delicious and they have a varied selection of margaritas. Double check the size before ordering as they can get pretty big.

Very good lunch menu, sorry ate before I took a pic of the food. Had the Avocado Tostada with chicken with rice and refried beans and some Mexican style slaw

Honestly this was the worst dinner I’ve ever paid for. Tonight we choose to sit outside which was a huge mistake. I understand that people have kids, and that kids bring noise and such, but I wasn’t really planning on eating dinner in the playground. The table next to us had 2 little girls about 7 – 9 years old and the never sat at the table the entire time we were here. They spent our entire meal running around the patio area, in between all of the tables, screaming, chasing each other and playing hide and seek. All while their mother and the other 2 adults drank multiple alcoholic drinks and ignored the kids completely. It was incredibly annoying. I’m not saying this as a person who doesn’t like kids, I love kids. I just don’t love other kids screaming at each other from opposite sides of my table while I’m trying to eat. These little girls were running around the servers as well, and no one did anything, even when some drinks were spilled by one server who was bumped into. I know management isn’t responsible for other people’s children, but no one spoke to the parents about the fact that their kids were ruining the dining experience for everyone else in the restaurant. There were other tables with children, but these girls were the only ones running around. Now, let’s talk about the food and how that was a disappointment. Three of us went out to eat tonight and no one enjoyed their meal. Someone ordered the nachos and they came out with almost all of the chips burnt like they were in the oven too close to the broiler. Any chip that had a topping on it was burnt black around the edges, and all the other chips underneath or cold with nothing on them. I had a shredded beef taco, and shredded beef enchilada. The rice and beans were good, and that was about it. The red sauce on the tamale had no flavor and I couldn’t eat the taco because it was so saturated with grease the shelf fell apart. My boyfriend had a similar experience with his meal. No flavor in the sauce on his tamale sauce and a grease taco that fell apart. The service didn’t even save this evening. We received chips, but no salsa. After asking 3 different servers we received the salsa when the meal came. No one checked on us during the meal and we had to get up and walk over to a server to request our bill. We wanted to like this place, really we did. After tonight though, I don’t think we’ll chance it again.

This is my go to place for affordable Mexican. Food is always nice and tasty, hot and fresh. The servers might seem a little hap-hazard, but they always seem to get the order right and is appropriate for a small family restaurant. The patio is great, atmosphere nice, just a great local place!

This restaurant has a fun little feature where you can stand at the urinal doing your business and wave through the window at people walking up the street! Just strange.

Terrible tacos. Maybe the worst I have ever had. The shells were the premade ones you buy and the grocery store. Probably Olé brand. Will never eat here again.

I got the combo fajitas and they cooked a big piece of plastic which they included in my meal, I’ll never eat here again.

Disappointed. My wife an I chose to share the $ 18.50 super-duper Case Alegre signature burrito with the buy-up steak option. What was inside was mostly lettuce and rice. Steak was tiny little flecks of beef … not even sure how the bid that. I’ll post a pic if I can. Place was not the cleanest. Service was slow with almost no customers; staff was pretty interested in the soccer game on TV that day. Consider Efrain’s or El Tapatio instead if you’re looking for Mexican in this area.

Just traveling through town and stopped at Casa Alegra. The atmosphere is quaint with a lot of personality. The staff are friendly and very attentive. The selections were numerous and the food was excellent! The margaritas and sangrias were tasty. I would highly recommend this place. Starting May 3, 2015 they’ll have music… even better!

This place is bomb. I usually mix my entrée up, but you can never go wrong with their fajitas/burritos. The portions are massive so bring your appetite. I recommend any margarita as they will make you lean all day! BTW Weekends have live music on their sick patio, great atmosphere, and solid staff!

This place has some HUGE burritos! The Vegetarian Burrito is pretty good; it’s even better if you add the green Mexican«tomatillo» sauce(which is also vegetarian). It does not come with any sides, unless you count guacamole and sour cream. But the price is really fair and the portion is huge so that easily makes up for it. Besides, you can order rice and beans on the side if you really want more. I ordered my burrito to-go, so I did not get to experience the service or the atmosphere of the restaurant. I will say, though, that they included chips & salsa in the to-go order, which was nice. I will definitely come back to try some of their other offerings.

Came in at 3pm on the day before Thanksgiving and were one of 3 tables. As usual, water and chips and salsa came out right away. The service is friendly and quick; the food is large portioned, really hot and delicious! My husband had the chicken fajitas, my son had carne asada tacos and I had the pollo asada. The only suggestion for improvement is that it could be a little spicier. Definitely come here if you’re on Main Street in Louisville!

They had a small band playing and a bit of a line but the hostess made us feel very welcome and went out of her way to explain various dishes to us. It felt like we were going to have dinner at someone’s home in Mexico, very authentic in many ways. The medium margharita was substantial in size and a great start to a wonderful meal. While we were not too impressed with how my wife’s pork dish came out it, the pollo en mole was excellent. The black beans were delicious, the chicken very tender and tasty. They have room for a group or two, plenty of booths plus regular tables. A bar in the front area served as a stage for a three person band who played very nice Mexican songs. Highly recommended for a lively and fun dinner out with friends.
