For the prices you pay for a sushi roll isn’t worth it. Service was terrible. Was told they didn’t have cups for water. Outside patio was the best part.

We were in the area for VegFest at Apocalypse Brews. But the entirety of the grounds was a line for food. And we, being very hungry and impatient omnivores, decided to skip out and get food elsewhere(sorry VegFest!!). Hilltop wasn’t open yet, and the kitchen at Silver Dollar closes for a while in between lunch and dinner. But look! People are going in to Barcode! Unilocal said they weren’t open yet… but an illuminated sign and people already in there eating said different(or maybe their hours need to be updated online…) I thought it was going to be fancier/higher end than it is. But that isn’t a bad thing… I don’t really know where that impression came from… But it is your typical sushi joint. I am on a budget and had food plans a little later, so I just needed something to tide me over. I got a Crunch Munch roll(one of my usual go-to rolls anywhere). And it was just what I wanted, needed and expected. The server was friendly and kept our waters full. If you are around this area and want some sushi, you can find a decent selection here.

Great experience. The food is better than the atmosphere but I like both. Had a bottle of wine at the bar with a friend. We shared a few different rolls that we shared. It was all delicious. I come here often and it’s a great place for later night food. The patio is amazing and great for outdoor dining!

If I had the option of zero stars, I would give this that based on our disastrous experience. Our waitress did not write our order down and that’s where everything went haywire. We had only 2 orders for a group of 5 as we wanted to share. The waitress forgot our drinks, it took us repeatedly looking around at her after she got our water for her to remember that we had drink orders. The FIRST time the food came it was 2 plates of completely the wrong order . THESECOND time we got 5 plates of food instead of just the Two we ordered and it was stone cold… We had the chicken combo and the chicken was cold. The rice was hard as it was cold. The manager or head waiter came over to our table to make sure we got what we ordered, when we told our food was cold he said OK. That’s it no apologies, nothing. He just came over to write down what we ordered. This place did not treat us well and We will not be returning.

Eh. The only time I go here is if nothing else is open or if Hilltop is so packed for the UofL basketball game I can’t get a seat there. The sushi is average. I do enjoy the outdoor area when the weather is nice but this would not be a first, second, third, … pick. I like Osaka better but both this place and Osaka have much smaller rolls than my favorite Oishii. It’s a bit highly priced for the quality of the food in my opinion. And to me it has a weird vibe… And though I’m pretty sure the same owner runs Osaka and Barcode, the sushi is different.

Let me first start by saying, I LOVE a good groupon. Groupon determines where date night will take us more often than night. Barcode 1758 was a groupon special the other evening, and I have to say I wasn’t terribly disappointed. First off, I never know if groupons are restaurants«last hope» to do well, or if they are just trying to get more interest. I have no idea. But my fiancé and I had been to Barcode 1758 once before, not on a groupon and I said, «The sushi was good, but for the sizes of the rolls, I wouldn’t come back unless we had a coupon or their was a happy hour special.» If you compare Barcode 1758 to other popular sushi restaurants like Oishii, or even Sapporo, the size of their rolls vs the bang for your buck is not equal. I have yet to be disappointed in taste, but again sushi can be expensive. Last time we were there the restaurant was weirdly vacant. The waiters were posted up at the bar and the manager was reading something on his laptop. I’m not sure how they advertise, but that has been the scenario both times going here. Once seated, we were asked what we wanted to drink and proceeded to order hot sake, to split. That was the best decision I had made all day. Once our friends joined us they ordered drinks, and then we placed multiple sushi orders, and our other friend ordered an entrée. The atmosphere was quiet, but our table was having fun. The manager or whatever he was who was at his laptop got up once we ordered, he made our rolls. We tried several new ones. One of my favorites consisted of shredded tempura sweet potato. I don’t know off the top of my head the name of the roll, and I cannot find their menu offhand, but the rolls did not disappoint. They did mess up my friends order but fixed it in no time. Our groupon gave us $ 17 for $ 30 which made a dent in our check. We still ended up paying around $ 25 on top of the«$ 30» so it was a big night out. But we had drinks and 4 – 5 rolls. So I understand. I like the concept of Barcode 1758, and I’m not picky about my sushi in the least. but their prices do not equate to the experience or quality of their food. I wish more people were there on any given night as well. I enjoy a good deal, so if they do another groupon its worth going… but not on a regular budget. It’s too pricey for what you get, in my humble opinion.

I’ve been to Barcode 1758 multiple times, but must say my last visit was probably the best. It was a beautiful night outside, even warm enough to enjoy their patio! I noticed during this trip in they built a new room on the outside of the building that leads to the upper level patio. It looked nice. For our meal we shared several things. I ordered an avocado roll, a chicken breast skewer regular heat, and a shrimp skewer medium heat. She ordered the Fire Fire appetizer, the Zacking roll, and the All Day roll. I had a Large Kirin to drink and she had a different Japanese beer. The Fire Fire was bomb bomb! Seriously awesome. I could have had several more pieces of that and called it a day. My skewers were good. I preferred the chicken over the shrimp, but still ate them both. I was disappointed in my avocado roll. As simple as it is, I’m pretty critical on what arrives at my table. I’d give that a 3 out of 5. ToGo Sushi still makes THE best avocado roll in town in my opinion. The two other rolls my friend ordered were also good. I of course tried them both. I preferred the All Day roll better than the Zacking roll. The All Day was filled with great flavor and some spicy sauce. It was tasty! I’m so glad the meal ended up being better than the last meal I had at Barcode. Great location, great food, great service = Two thumbs up. :)

This is one of my favorite sushi places in town. The sushi is fresh and there are plenty of options, ranging from traditional to very innovative rolls. BarCode frequently has great happy hour deals and specials, making it pretty affordable. The Korean rice cake skewers(or any of the skewers) are the perfect way to start out a meal. The best part? BarCode is open until 2:00 a.m. on the weekends, and has a full drink selection, so it’s a great place to go after the bars or just to grab a late night bite to eat.

Wait wait, we ordered a $ 13 ramen dish and they gave us instant noodles? They weren’t even cooked through! My wife crunched into the tell-tale wavy noodle, still in its square shape, and gave me a regretful stare. If you want to put ramen on the menu, at least use some real noodles. This was the 50 cent cup noodle from the supermarket. Even the seafood in there was overlooked and tough. Much of the menu is composed of Korean dishes and the typical American sushi fusion cuisine. I ordered the bulgogi-don, and found it to be all right. The agedofu was also fairly good compared to the ramen. The service was friendly and prompt.

Love this cozy restaurant I discover it when I was craving sushi at 1:00am. This place was the only sushi place open so I was shocked & surprise that the food was amazing. I love this restaurant I start going every other night because my favorite sushi restaurant Sapporo was closed for 5 months. So this became my new fave.

‘I like this place,’ I thought as my friend said it out loud. «Me too!» I replied as we walked out the door after recently visiting. I’ve been twice now and would recommend Barcode 1758 to anyone who asked me. Highlights: – Tasty sushi – Fun ambience(both indoor and out) – Easy street parking The first time I visited, I sat on the patio when the weather was still warm enough to do so. The ambiance was laid back, and — unfortunately — so was our server that evening. It took about 10 minutes to bring our drinks, and subsequent visits to our table resulted in long, babbling, one-sided conversations from the server. The food was good and priced very reasonably, so there was no reason not to return. My most recent visit had us sitting inside with the cooler weather. I really like the ambiance indoors as well. The walls are red with black and white pictures and murals decorating. The bar is large, behind which a variety of bottles and sushi ingredients can be seen. On this visit, service was both prompt and appropriate. I again ordered the Kiss Me Roll(new favorite), which is spicy inside and with some heat in the form of a jalapeño and a drop of sriracha on the outside. We also got the Mango Crunch, which is great for those with less tolerance for spice, as it’s a milder flavor. Finally, the Crunch Munch has become a new favorite of mine with its spicy flavor and crunchy texture. It won’t be long before my next visit, and while I’d like to try some new things, I’ll also be ordering my new favorites!

We really liked this little restaurant! Not really knowing what to have for dinner tonight, LEEB and I went to @Groupon and found this deal on Clifton. Since Shelbyville Rd. turns into Frankfort, it was a straight shot from Saint Matthews to Clifton. We started with the Phill Bulgogi appetizer and oh my was it good! Well, take spicy, shredded Korean barbecue add cheese and wrap in an egg roll and deep fry it. Then dip in in this amazing sweet, spicy red sauce and all you can say is «Ahhhhh!». We knew it was so good, it had to be soooo bad(on the calories), but that didn’t keep us from cleaning our plates. LEEB ordered the Spicy Pork Don, on the menu it said pork cutlets, but came out as shredded pork, but he said it was really good. The plate size was huge over rice. He brought half of it home for leftovers the next day and had them for lunch. He said it re-heated well and tasted just as good. I ordered the Zacking Sushi Roll with fried red snapper, cream cheese wrapped in seaweed — yummy crunch! Usually, I eat half a sushi roll and take the rest home, for whomever wants leftovers, but not the case here. All gone, finito. The bacon wrapped asparagus kept calling my name, so I ordered it also and was a little disappointed. I like my bacon crunchy and this bacon was soft. But it may be because of the way they have to cook it with the asparagus. Have to trust the chef on this one. The service was excellent. We sat outside on the patio and it was a beautiful Louisville October evening. At first the we worried because the drinks came out a little slow, but once he got into his routine, we could not ask for a better waiter. Would definitely recommend for the Sushi and non-Sushi eater couples/friends like LEEB& myself. There is something on the menu for both types of appetites.

I cannot say enough wonderful words about Barcode1758! We were out and about on the town all day and were wanting to try new restaurants. When we started with Stout Burgers, we didn’t think that anything from a bar could compare and capture our pallets the way Stout and Copper & Kings did. Side note — I HIGHLY recommend those slices of heaven! Onto Barcode 1758. We walked in and were greeted with a smile and told to sit anywhere we would like. We had quite a few options. The inside was cozy and romantic with a quaint sushi bar to sit at, while the outside was filled with laughter, darts being thrown, and a cool breeze. The moon was also out and in perfect view so we leaned towards the back patio! Ria greeted us almost immediately! She helped recommend some of her favorite sakes and gave us some useful information on the menu. Her personal favorite, bacon wrapped asparagus was not ordered but we will be back next week! We started with the coconut sake, lobster ciger, and tornado shrimp. We expected these plates to be small and unable to fill our empty bellies up! When she brought out the appetizers are eyes blew up! It is so. Hard to find a decently sized appetizer nowadays but Barcode 1758 provides just that!!! The shrimp and lobster were accompanied by the hot sweet chili tai sauce! It was amaze balls but not to sweet — which I have found at other Asian fusion joints. And to top of already full bellies off were the red snapper and Korean beef. Again, quite amazing and large portions.

When going out to dinner after a long week of school or work, you want a place that is satisfying and that starts the weekend off well. After having a mediocre experience a few months ago at Barcode 1758, I decided to give it another try. My(second) first impression was that this was a wannabe hipster restaurant. The decour seemed to «try too hard» and it honestly didn’t have a good atmosphere. The meal started off with a house salad with ginger dressing. Now keep in mind, I judge the sushi place on not only the sushi but also their house salad. I love ginger dressing but not enough to want basically half the bottle of dressing on my salad. The iceberg lettuce was drenched in dressing and I could swim in what was left after I ate the salad. My friend and I decided to order three rolls. None of the rolls really stood out on the menu so it took us quite a bit of time to decided what we wanted. We ended up ordering the Crunch Munch Roll, Fire Dragon Roll, and the Monster Roll. Since the rolls were a bit pricey, we were hoping to get a decent sized roll. When the sushi came out, both of us were a bit disappointed. The rolls had about 8 pieces each. There should have been a warning label on these rolls because they nearly burnt my taste buds off! I am an avid lover of spicy foods and I probably drank around 10 glasses of water with my meal. The fish was not fresh and quite honestly the rolls were too spicy to enjoy. Hoping to end the meal on a good note, we ordered the Tempura Cheesecake. The first few bites were magical… but once we got to the middle and end of the cake, it was completely frozen. The one good aspect of our meal was our server, Soo. She was very sweet and attentive. She filled up our water glasses as soon as we took our last sip :) She was the highlight of the meal. I am disappointed to go back to Barcode 1758 and have another merdiocre experience. I had high hopes but was let down once again. Frankfort Avenue has a lot of gems. Sadly, Barcode 1758 is not one of them.

We found a lot to like in this restaurant. Rolls were amazing(I would specifically recommend the Sweet Crunch Roll), patio area is nice, staff was efficient, helpful and patient(we have a 9 month old :)). Make sure you go in with the understanding that BAR is in the name, because that’s how it feels. Also, they do not combine groupon deals with happy hour deals. Just be prepared for that! Overall great experience and we will be back for the happy hour!

Fetty Wap voice* Bar 1758! decided to try this place out after a visit from the UofL Hospital because of it’s relative location. due to great weather recently, we decided to sit outside. there was a waterfall running, with different colored lights surrounding it. romantic, isn’t it? there’s even a fire pit when it gets in the colder seasons. hot dang! the inside is small, so I highly recommend sitting outside. now it’s time to talk about the food, because it was the main reason I came here. I ordered a salmon fried rice with mango slices and my girlfriend ordered ramen noodles. we also got the Kiwi Roll. the kiwi roll was decent, but wasn’t worth the price. the ramen noodles was basically instant noodles in ginger flavored broth that was too strong. the salmon that I received was burnt in some places but it was a good meal nonetheless. the mango and fried rice was definitely a good mixture. overall, the ambience is the biggest plus to this place. if you’re wanting to have a chill place to drink, this is definitely a place to experience. if you’re hungry though, don’t expect the food to be that good. cheers!

I found this restaurant confusing. It is nice inside, with super-friendly staff and a decent bar(good beer selection, good cocktail possibilities although on the sweet side), but the food is all over the place. So many things, instead of focusing on what is really good. There is sushi. I tried a roll with avocado, tamago, and surimi, which was pretty good, but it was huge! There is ramen. One of my dining companions had the vegetarian ramen with tofu, and she said the flavors were really good. There are skewers, which do make for great bar food. The bacon-wrapped asparagus was very tasty. Oddly, the sauce on the skewers involved something white and thick, like a cream sauce, but not. It was tasty but I thought was too much. Usually those skewers at Japanese restaurants allow the flavor of the vegetables and meat through, but that sauce was really overpowering. The rice that came with the skewer plates was fried. This, above all else, screams that this restaurant does a good job of serving the main demographic in the neighborhood = white peoples. That said, it was really tasty. The agedashi tofu itself was pretty good, but instead of coming in a broth, it came in a thick brown sauce. Tasty, but weird and too much flavor. I know, that sounds weird, but that dish is usually much more delicate in flavor. The staff was so nice, and the ramen tasty enough, that we will likely go back. But we will be very selective with what we order.

This place is dope. My wife and I were driving around, trying to find a place to have a beverage when we stumbled upon Barcode. The thing that caught our attention was the beautiful patio and the opportunity to sit out on a balmy evening, such as the one this evening. No wind. 82 degrees. Absolutely divine. I wasn’t going to order food, but decided that I had to try the«White Spicy Roll.» A crab and tuna mix. The flavor was spot on. I lied to my wife, who can be a very picky eater. «What’s in it?» «Tuna.» “Is that it?” «Yep!» *She eats half of the roll* «Mmmmm! This is delicious!» «AHHA! It had crab in it! You DO like crab!!» Point is, it’s a good place. And it’s even good for people that are picky eaters. She had a Long Island Iced Tea. I had a Samuel Adams Seasonal Brew. Both of us were satisfied. They had a decent drink list. Somewhat impressed. Our server was a girl named Erin. We’re fans. She did a job as well or better than you’d hope. Shout out. Great location, great patio, and delicious food. It didn’t knock my socks off, hence the four stars. But it’s certainly worth putting on your list and making the effort to visit.

I am already a fan of Osaka and Barcode 1758 was opened by the same owners so I had high expectation and they were definitely met! I like the décor and the bar area. It feels a bit higher end than Osaka. They also have a great patio for sunny days. I can’t wait to sip cocktails outside this summer. The drink list is unique and the beer is cold and inexpensive. On Sunday they had $ 1.50 domestic cans. Perfect for chasing my hot sake. :) I had the steamed shrimp rolls to start and they were light and delicious. Next, I went with the cucumber salad. Great flavor and a huge portion. For dinner, I tried the fire dragon roll because i dig spicy sauce on my sushi. Loved it! So fresh and the sauce was fantastic. The menu offers a wide array of skewers, dumplings, salads, soups and sushi. There is a lot more to try so I plan on returning soon.

We are huge fans of Osaka — so when we heard about Barcode, we were pretty eager to check it out. My mom purchased a groupon and handed it over to my partner and I as a gift. We walked in, a little after 5pm on a Sunday. It was dark and empty — but with updated décor. Still — very dark, and were quiet. The food was good — but there were lots of little things that were a little offsetting. We were the only people there for the first 5 – 10 minutes. As we were walked to our table, I noticed that the sushi bar was still wrapped up, in plastic — not well lit, no chef ready to go — just sitting there. Being the only people in the restaurant, I felt like the waiter was hovering a bit. There was a candle on the table — but he didn’t light it when we were seated. We asked for a minute to look over the menu and he disappeared — literally — going somewhere else in the restaurant– we were the only people in the entire dining room. When He came back, we ordered a soup — which he cleared without asking if we were finished(we weren’t). We ordered 4 sushi rolls and a tofu skewer platter. Shortly after, he came back to the table to tell us they were out of spinach. So they couldn’t make the spinach roll. We ordered a veggie roll to take its place. When the sushi came out, he just sat it down — didn’t tell us what any of the rolls were. During dinner, 3 more couples and a single man filtered in. Even with more people, the restaurant was awkwardly quiet — almost like you had to whisper to have a private conversation. I’m sure the waiter was just trying to be attentive — but it felt like he was staring at us while we ate. I also noticed that he had one end of his earbuds plugged into his right ear when we came to the table. I thought that was a little unprofessional– you’re at work, you should be talking on the phone or listening to music — especially when you come to the table. When the server brought the bill, I pulled up the groupon — he left the table for about 3 minutes — with my phone. I didn’t care for that. I thought he should have written down the number, or at least ask me if it was ok for him to take my phone to the counter. The ambience was awkward, but, the food was quite delicious. Even the«cheap» veggie and sweet potato rolls — very flavorful and nicely played. The menu featured some of the same rolls as Osaka — but we wanted to try something different.(I can’t find the menu online, and the server didn’t introduce the rolls — so I can’t remember the names of what we ordered). The food definitely saved the experience. I thought the prices were reasonable and the portions were decent. I’d maybe do carry out in the future, I didn’t love the dine in experience. Maybe going on a Friday or Saturday would have been different. 3 stars for experience overall. 5 if only judging food.
