Got off the road from Thanksgiving travels. Wanted something easy and yummy. Chinese it is! Used the online ordering. The order was correct, hot, and was delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Ordered sweet and sour chicken(average but tasty), beef fried rice(the beef was cooked perfectly) and the highly recommend the Singapore Chow Mei Fun(curry rice noodles stir fried with shrimp, chicken, pork and vegetables — delicious, you won’t regret it). Each entrée’s portions are enough for two meals. Fully satisfied and will order again.

Ordered delivery from Taste of China after a flier wound up in my mailbox last week. I had some friends over after watching Derby at the bar down the street, and Chinese food was what everyone wanted, so we went for it, despite no one in our group ever having had A Taste of China’s food. We were really pleasantly surprised by the quality and the promptness of delivery as well as the cost. We ordered five entrees and two appetizers to feed six people and the total cost was $ 53 with a 18% tip for the delivery driver. Not only that, but there was a bunch left over after everyone had had their fill; we could have easily cut out two entrees and had enough to feed six semi-intoxicated people in their early-mid 30s amped up on Derby and in the middle of a highly interactive viewing of Dirty Dancing in my living room. We had shrimp lo mein, chicken with garlic sauce, beef and broccoli, kung pao chicken, and cashew chicken for entrees(some of which are available in very convenient pint or quart sizes, which is something I greatly appreciate as someone who is both broke and doesn’t eat big meals), plus wontons and spring rolls for appetizers. Each item was expertly prepared and exactly what we were looking to have. I then enjoyed the leftovers everyone left at my place for the next three days. Chinese food for breakfast!!!

I ordered off of their website for delivery while i was at work and I was very disappointed. I ordered around 11:30 and didn’t receive my food until 1:10. My business is about 5 – 6 blocks away so it should never take that long. When the delivery man showed up he didn’t know how much change to give back(which isn’t a big issue) and the food wasn’t hot. I ordered the general Tso chicken and crab ragoon. The general Tso was bland and the fried rice didn’t have any flavor. The crab ragoon’s barely had any cream cheese and crab in em. Was very disappointed.

Went to order carry out. The lady at the counter took 15 phone orders before she even acknowledged me. When I got home my Hunan chicken was shrimp. No problem. ate it anyway because I didn’t want to go back and wait for her to answer the phone 50 more times before she replaced my order. Became violently ill and was sick for 3 days. Second time this has happened there. It won’t happen again. They should change their name to a taste of botulism.

I tried A Taste of China for the first time tonight, getting take-out. I am unlikely to return. I don’t mind shabby-but-clean. This place is shabby & skungy gross. When you walk in everything smells of grease. There were food bits on the tables, a film of greasy dirt on everything else, the windows & doors & walls streaked & splattered with assorted ick, & the fan pointing at the kitchen area had strings of dirt hanging from its frame. Despite the unpleasant surroundings I ordered 3 dishes because I wanted to try a range of things. The steamed rice was good. The beef w/Chinese vegetables was adequate: the pieces of beef were of good size & reasonably tender. There was nothing Chinese about the vegetables(carrots, snow peas, celery) but at least were not overcooked. However all of it was coated with a very salty, gelatinous, generic brown sauce. The chicken with mixed vegetables(from the«diet» menu) had large pieces of white-meat chicken & lots of veggies. It was cooked with zero seasoning –not even soy sauce– and so was profoundly bland. I also ordered pork chow mein. The dish I got had pork & various sliced veggies, but had no noodles. It was as if they made the dish but forgot the noodles. How do you forget the noodles in a dish whose very name *means* noodles? Since I was really craving noodles, this was a large strike against the restaurant, but it could have been a bizarre mistake & I would have given them another chance. The things that changed this from being a 3-star«mediocre but cheap» review to a 2-star«I won’t go there again» review were the fried dough & the fortune cookies. The fried dough was off — they need to change their oil because it tastes old. And then there were the fortune cookies. They were not stale — I could of coped with stale. I was expecting stale after the condition of everything else I’d tried. Instead the fortune cookies were profoundly rancid. I’d ordered extra because I love fortune cookies. I opened the wrappers & smelled each of them. Every single one was bad. It’s been 30 minutes & I’m still trying to get the taste out of my mouth from the first rancid fortune cookie that I accidentally started to eat before spitting it out in disgust. *shudders* Ugh.

A Taste of China has become my «go to» for delivery Chinese in the downtown area. While my first experience with their food was not the very best, I’ve now tried a variety of items from their menu and I’ve been pleased with them. I’m also extremely impressed with their delivery drivers who have are fast and friendly no matter what, and I have truly tested them with delivery on Christmas day, in bad weather, etc. So, is A Taste of China the best Chinese food I have ever eaten? No. But it has become my stand by for delivery when I am at home. And, everyone needs a stand by Chinese delivery restaurant!

I can only speak to the delivery side of this place… The person who answers the phone is a little hard to understand. I’ve needed to repeat the order a couple times before they got it right. And I’m not sure if they take credit cards, because they never asked how we wanted to pay. It was a little irritating. The food itself was decent. It came with a lot of rice, which was nice. I’ve had much better Chinese food before, but the stuff here wasn’t bad. I can’t complain about it. My biggest complaint was that later on a random weekday night, delivery still took an hour. We had to call them to make sure they were still coming.

The orange chicken is spicy and flavorful and you can at least tell a difference between dishes. Haven’t been inside, I cant say anything about dining in. As far as delivery goes they’re fast.

They do delivery, which is great, but the food is mostly bland and lifeless. Good variety on the menu, but just doesn’t taste like much of anything. There has to be better Chinese delivery in the downtown area… right?
