I will literally fly back to the bay area from LA and London to see Long.
Currently: I go to school in Los Angeles, but I currently reside in the UK. And I literally make a trip to the bay area to get my hair done with Long. He is the only human I trust with my hair. His sessions always leave me confident and happy with my hair. I get so many compliments from my friends and strangers (kind of weird but still flattering haha). They always compliment me on my color and cut :)

1) cut my hair short (and I usually have long hair)
2) colored my overall hair
3) added subtle highlights and lowlights
4) always does my roots in a way where I can still maintain my usual low maintenance hair (I’m so inadept with hair)
Background: Three years ago, I went to Long to color my hair. My hair three years ago was ruined in color by a DIY ombré, and Long re-​colored my hair PERFECTLY. He did an overall light, velvety chocolate brown with hints of subtle red and brown. guys — the amount of compliments I got about my hair because of Long’s expert coloring and cut was INSANE.
Overall — my first haircut and color with Long was a huge success. I gave him creative liberty (because let’s be real I have no idea what I’m talking about when I point to a hair color from the internet on a celebrity). And I was completely happy with it.

Super laid back n chill experience with Long Hong. I’ve had long thin hair most of my life and felt I needed to make some changes. I came in a bit nervous but totally trusted Long knew what he was doing. He cut about 8 – 9 inches off and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The ash blonde dimensional coloring was also perfectly done. He gave me exactly what I was looking for. I’m so glad I came across his Instagram page (long.the.hong). His work is phenomenal!!! Long definitely gained me as a returning client.

Long is an amazing stylist, hair magician, and perfectionist. When I moved from San Francisco to the Silicon Valley, I spent 2 long years looking for a hair stylist. When I finally met Long my search came to an abrupt end. Long listens intently and always delivers on giving you the hair cut, color, and style you are after. In fact, you will never leave his sight without feeling completely satisfied. He takes extreme care to perfecting is work. He will also give you his advice and pointers on your styling requests. Recently, I went from a long layered look to a short wavy bob, with a to die for color to top it off. I’ve never received so many compliments on my hair! Additionally, Long always does his best to get me on his books, even when I have last minute scheduling needs. I highly recommend Long, you will walk away from his chair feeling pampered and beautiful!

Found Long from Instagram and love his work. I decoded to make appointment with him for balayage and that was the best decision ever! Love my hair so much. It has the dimension and even after 3 months my hair still look great! He is very fun and perfectionist. He listened to you and will tell you the truth on what you can or can’t achieve. He is my go to colorist from now. 2 hours drive is totally worth it!

I was referred to Long by a mutual friend. I was desperate to get my hair corrected because my balayage blonde (which was only 2 weeks into it) quickly turned into a brassy orange color (which I absolutely cannot stand)! I wanted to book an appt with someone really good… i knew it would be pricey but I don’t mind paying a lot of $$$ for great results. All of the referrals for the good hair stylists were booked for the next few months. Then, I remembered that my friend had a friend that does hair and she referred to me Long. I texted him and he replied to me the same day and gave me a consultation via text. I sent him pictures of what I wanted and he advised me on what I would have to commit to if I wanted my hair gray/​silver. I’m so glad that he told me that this is a lifestyle change and it takes a lot of commitment and maintenance. I work a lot so I don’t have time for that. Furthermore, my hair is very thin and frail so I was afraid that my hair wouldn’t be able to take the platinum blonde. I changed my mind and asked him if he could do a dirty ashy blonde and said he could do it, plus he was able to book me in 2 weeks! I was ecstatic! Long is very particular about his work. He was super knowledgeable and friendly, asked a ton of questions (so he knows exactly what you want), and takes a lot of pride in his work. Let’s just say he won’t let you leave the salon without your hair looking exactly like what you came there to get. He is very professional and is very meticulous with his work. He is such a perfectionist. I highly recommend him to anyone that wants to get their hair colored. I have been to so many salons and i always leave feeling unsatisfied with my results because they never get the optimum results that I initially wanted. This is actually the first time that I walked out of the salon feeling satisfied! :) Thanks so much Long!!! You are the best!!! See you in 5 – 6 weeks to get my hair toned. :)

I’ve only had one experience w/​Long so if my next few cuts/​color are consistent I’ll bump it up to 5 stars. :)
To keep things short, Long exceeded all of my expectations. He did the impossible and turned my grown out, brassy hair blonde in one session! Other stylists that I’ve been to told me that it was impossible and that I needed 2 – 3 sessions to be blonde. Long did it in one. On top of that my hair did not feel damaged.
Long is very meticulous– he listens to everything you have to say, down to the very little details. We went over a lot of pictures and discussed my desired outcome. I honestly did not expect the results that I got… simply amazing. Even though its on the pricey side, I definitely think its worth every penny. Go to Long, you’ll definitely leave his salon feeling amazinggg! I sure did. ;)

We all know why we seek the best hair stylist around. It’s because hair is your best accessory to any outfit.
I never know what would look good on me, let alone what I want with my hair. I came in this morning and just told Long that I don’t want any of this orange in my hair. And BAM! Total transformation. My hair’s future was completely in his hands. But did I die? No. I LOVEEEEEED IT! Absolutely love love love it.
There’s one thing that you can’t buy, and that’s a stylist’s vision and their craft. I admire the fact that Long doesn’t recreate the same hair style on a different head over and over. You see that a stylist is booked over and over because of the same style that they can create on a different head all the time. Even if it doesn’t even look good on them.
To each their own, if this review can’t convince you that Long is truly one of the best out there, best of luck to you and your hair.

My one hair appointment with Long was great. The appointment was about 4 hours long for a cut and color (from virgin hair). He gave me a sombre w a shoulder length blunt bob. I rarely get a haircut because I’m pretty low maintenance (and I never have time, who’s kidding!?), so when I do get a cut I make sure I go to someone who can give me something that will last awhile and give me a good cut. I haven’t had my hair colored in agessss (probably 7 years) so I decided to do something different this time and go light. Long did a great job with the few requests I had and I’ve had tons of compliments on my hair since then.
It was really easy to book an appointment w/​him (through text) and he really listens to what you’re looking for and will give you suggestions based on your hair.
Even though he might cost more as far as hair stylists go, you know you’ll be coming away w/​a cut and color you’ll love. You won’t be disappointed. I definitely recommend going to Long for your hair needs.

He should be paying me for letting him use me as his guinea pig. Just kidding.
Long’s really good at cutting and coloring Asian hair. I should know. I haven’t found a stylist who could do what I ask in over a decade. I usually passively whine about how bad my hair is after I’ve already left a big tip. Long actually deserves his tips. He takes as long as necessary and never rushes his work. If you’re lucky, he might ask you to swipe left or right for him and call for an impromptu selfie sesh, i mean photo shoot.

I’ve been getting my hair cut and styled by Long for the past few years and I won’t go anywhere else. Long has done a great job with all of my various requests, from short and clean to longer messier surfer look. Long has great style sense and is on top of current trends to help you find just the right look. Long takes his time with you so you really feel taken care of. Long has a variety of skills and knows how to work with many hair types and styles for both men and women.
