I wouldn’t go back here again because of the terrible rude service I received. I went in to find a hat for the Concours d’Elegance the Friday before the event thinking they would definitely keep a great selection regardless of how close the date was to the actual event. They had nothing.
I informed the woman that I needed a hat for the event. She says, «Don’t you think it’s a little late to be shopping for a hat?» How rude, it’s none of your business lady, just be nice and help me find a hat. I tried on a couple hats that were ok, but were simple ‘everyday’ hats. I then asked her about the last hat I tried on, «You know I think I’ll just get this one, but if I find one that I like better in Carmel, will you accept a return?» She says, «We don’t refund used hats.» That’s not what I asked lady. Hello! She then says, «Don’t get it if you don’t like it. You know Carmel has only one store and it’s very small. Good luck finding a hat.» Really lady, how rude. Obviously, I left and did not purchase the hat. I’m a local since 1997 and never have experienced such a hoity-​toity attitude in any local business. I found a lovely derby hat at that The Hat Shop of Carmel. This store is huge with so many hats. In addition, there’s another hat store too called the Carmel Hat Company which also has a huge selection of hats.

My first time in the shop, what a great selection of hats, bags, jewelry and capes/​ponchos. Very helpful and friendly staff. I found the perfect vintage inspired hat for an upcoming party.

I love this adorable hat shop!!! I have gone three times and all three times, come home with a new treasure! I just purchased a darling new fall chapeau to add to my collection. I have always gotten such wonderful customer service and the selection is the best in the entire area. My biggest problem is trying to decide which one I love the most.

Great selection for both men and women, surprisingly affordable prices ($ 20-​$ 50, but many on the lower end of that range), and attentive staff. Everything from baseball caps to fedoras, fancy top hats to derby-​wear, and even micro-​hats to satisfy your 1920s nostalgia. The hats seem to be of great quality, as well.

Was doing a quick shopping and bought an item yesterday. Was hoping to see if I could return the item and get the credit back to my card as I was aware of the 14 days return policy BUT not the store credit or exchange only policy. The person on the phone wasn’t being nice, though I was being polite with my request. She said that I should have known that I was shopping in the Los Gatos area and it was a common return policy. I am new to the area. In fact, it was my first time shopping in the area. I like shopping local. I honor her policy & I would not mind shopping in her store. But I was not happy with the after-​shopping experience (the way she talked on the phone) & I would never come back to this store.
If you plan on shopping here, make sure you make a firm purchase as it is going to be more difficult if you change your mind about your purchase. You might or might not be able to find something in exchange for the item you return.

This place is beyond words amazing because the new Owners are incredible. We hit it off immediately months ago when my Husband and I met them and I love going in to not only see them but see how strong the business is going and check out awesome merchandise. Their merchandise is fantastic with great style, variety and price. MUST go see! You won’t regret it.

Update: Black Cat Hats is open under new management. My wife and I went there yesterday and had a nice chat with the new owner. Since the previous owner liquidated the inventory, she had to start fresh. There is still a nice selection of hats and there is still great service. When I noticed that top hats and bowler hats were no longer on display, she said that the inventory will be increasing in the next few weeks We are so glad that there is still a hat store in downtown Los Gatos. We left the store with a nice new summer hat for my wife.

I can“t wait to go shopping here. I have heard that the new owner is doing an Amazing job with creativity and style. I just underwent back surgery and when I get the okay to travel this will be my first place along with a yummy lunch downtown.

What bad hair day? The wooly ones saved me this trip. Great selection and the mirrors make me look thinner. You pay extra for that elsewhere.

Black Cat is my favorite hat store and the BEST hat store in the Bay Area. Everyone who works there is super friendly and helpful, the hats are always changing with seasons and styles, and the prices are reasonable.
Janet, the owner, is great and knows her stuff regarding hats!
They always have what I need and I buy all of my hats from them.
They also have special hat events that are a blast to attend.
Well worth the trip to Los Gatos to have the BEST hat experience ever!

Great place! Was going to the Kentucky Derby and the owner was super helpful with insider Derby fashion do’s and don’ts as well as customizing the hat to match my dress!

Thanks to a friend’s recommendation my wife and I checked out this store and visit Los Gatos CA. If I have the finanacila stablity this would be a city I would like to reside in after working in the city for a few years. So my wife recently lost her hair from chemo and wanted some hats to shade out the sun. I was very happy to take her here. We purchased hats for ourselves and found some time of discount on an app I checked in from and the service ladt added a little bit more discount that made our day perfect. Awesome service!

Black Cat has a large selection of hats. I didn’t find the «Derby» hat that fit my specific outfit, but Black Cat had a whole wall of visors and casual hats, some fun patriotic hats for 4^th of July, racks of big floppy hats, children’s sizes, and many colorful & fun fascinators. I was hoping to find a fascinator that attached with clips, but Black Cat only had the headband style. Their prices were higher than another hat specialty store I looked at, but they weren’t crazy high. If you wear hats on a regular basis, you might want to check out Black Cat Hats & Bags.

This is my favorite hat store in the Bay Area. The clerks are super friendly, the hats are always changing with seasons and styles, and the prices are reasonable. The derby & sun hats I’ve bought here are made of superb material that lasts through travel wear & tear.

I always come by this shop when it’s time for the Horse Races. Stopped in yesterday to get a hat for the Derby and walked away with 3 Fascinators! Cindy and Janet are the best and if they don’t have what you are looking for they will find it! The selection is amazing from casual to fancy and the prices are great too. My collection continues to grow as I come by to see these ladies.

Love, love, love this store! You have got to check this place out. It is a great place to buy a gift or just when you need a little pick me for yourself that won’t break the bank. I have at least 4 hats from this store — a great rain hat, a nice warm winter hat, a cute big brim sun hat to keep the wrinkles away and a very fun straw hat with flowers to wear just for fun.
It’s the only place I buy my handbags and I always get compliments on them. In fact the fragrance I wear I bought there too — can you tell I am a fan? I also recently purchased a fascinator to wear to the Rotary Gala. The jewelry is always fun, unique and affordable.
If you haven’t checked this place out yet, do it now! Love it.

What a FUN little shop!!! The girls working there were totally engaged in our shopping experience and urged me to keep trying on hats and things which made it all the more fun! I am still dreaming about this cute brown hat I tried on but didn’t buy because it was SOOOOO HOT that day I just couldnt justify the purchase. Clearly I need to get back and buy it though because I can’t stop thinking about it.
They also have an eclectic collection of other things a woman just can’t live without such as scarves and jewels of all styles at reasonable non LG type prices! Grab a girlfriend and get in there with some $$ to spend. You’ll be walking away feelin sassy & stylish for sure!

I’ve been shopping at this hat boutique (they have other things) for about a year now. I have always loved hats and had to look at every store when I was in the mood for something new. This cute place carries an assortment of many different types and I love the quality! There is always something new and precious:) I have to stay away from this place a lot of times because I’m running out of room!
I just love the new Panama hat I got there. It curves up in the back and dips in the front. It looks smashing!
