Went here because friend insisted that I try out. Yook Cal is a good deal for $ 8.95. The portions are generous. Yook Cal itself is ok. They could have boiled it longer and put more meat but I will not complain for $ 8.95. Great place Yookgaejang: D

1 Star for big parking lot — be aware of a tow truck working with the shopping center owners to tow away cars that are not parked there to visit the businesses at the premise. So think twice about parking the car and going across the street for other businesses. They even have the security guards mark the tires each hour. Another words, do not park there when you ain’t got no business there. 1 Star for spacious & clean restaurant — relatively new place. Modern & minimal interior designs. Menu are easy to read & they have large signs with the pictures as well. 1 Star for simplicity of menu — basically the Korean comfort foods(mainly Yook Kal & Galbi Tang). They are making those two staple soups fast and easy for the people. Yook Gae Jang and Galbi Tang are time consuming and takes so much effort to make at home. So finding a place who specialize in those are awesome. Also it was interesting to have Kal Gook Soo as the noodle to accompany the soups. Usually they are served with Dang Myun(clear glass noodles) or somyun(thin noodles). The Kal Gook Soo makes the soup more filling for sure~ –1 Star for sugar in food — way too sweet on the cold mool soba. The radish in the dish seemed like it was drenched in sugar syrup. Not to mention the soup! I know that restaurants use ample sugar in their dish but it was too much. I did like the soba very much. Texture was great! It will actually be a great dish for the hot summer days(little less sweeter~). Also while it was exciting to see beef in my cold noodle soup, it totally clouded my soup with beef fat that it became little bit uneasy to eat. I’d prefer not having beef in my cold soup or for them to make an effort to skim off that solidified fat in my soup! –1 Star for lacking depth in flavor — understand that they’re making the traditional food more appealing to the mass. However, you just can’t mess with the traditions. Although their food didn’t suck, it did lack in depth. Nothing can compare to the slow brewed broth that takes time & effort. I guess expecting that from a franchise restaurant wasn’t realistic?! Service — «A» okay~ Overall, okay place to satisfy your need for soulful soup. This place ain’t gonna satisfy your soul but might fill your stomach!

Yum! Good Korean comfort food without the constant hustle bustle of busier places. I came around 3PM, so it was during dead time. I sat myself and I almost instantly heard an ahjimma greet me with«annyeonghaseyo.» I ordered the gabli tang and the broth was so clean and good! The gabli could have been more tender but it was still good. It came with a side of white rice and handmade noodles. I also tried the seafood pancake and yum! The ratio of batter to filling was perfect for me! The dipping sauce was also super good! My friend got the cold noodles and he finished all of it in ten minutes so it’s definitely good! There are literally only six items on the menu so it’s good for indecisive people. The banchan was unimpressive but the kimchee radish seemed much more fermented from what I’m used to at other restaurants. I would definitely come here again and maybe get dessert from coffee time next door or look at some traditional rice cake and kimbap

Clean restaurant. Clean setup. Well, it’s a fairly new restaurant. Only 4 banchans though. Most Korean restaurants serve more. The spicy noodle dish was too sweet for my taste. The beef rib soup was not bad. Overall the dishes are small. I would order 3 dishes to satisfy 2 adults. Good service.

Probably best yook ge jang in K town! We also ordered side dish meat but … Well It wasn’t my thing… Was too dry and a little hard to chew for me. Comparing price with this quality, I think its cool!

I wasn’t really that impressed with the galbi tang and the yook kal. Average in my opinion, the interior was nice and clean, as well as the employees but I wouldn’t come back here. I kept on needing to drink water.

I stopped by last Friday when I went to Gold Optometry to pick up my new sunglasses. Rather convenient, it sharing the parking lot. If you park halfway between Gold Optometry and Yook Cal, you don’t even have to get in your car. Now, for the restaurant… I’m sad to admit that my mom’s version of both the yook gae jang and the galbi tang are better. Their yook gae jang had waaaay too much green onions, and not enough of the gosari sprouts. My dad tried the galbi tang and he agreed that my mom’s version is better. We’d rate their soups a solid 7 out of 10. What really blew me away was the pork dish! Holy poop Batman! The accompanying sides are PERFECT! And that dipping sauce. I compare it to the dipping sauce at Kang Hodong as far as the yummy-liciousness. I’ll definitely be coming back, just for the pork dish. And definitely getting more than 1 order, this time! Oh, and the rest of the banchan were most excellent/yummy as well!

My grandmother, mother and I all grabbed some lunch here since we decided to eat something different besides Madang Gooksu. We were seated quickly and given menus within minutes. Water was poured and when my mother spilled water(towards gma), one of the servers xame to the rescue and was so sweet! He also laid down newspaper on the bottom of my gma’s feet and the surrounding area so she didn’t slip.(I didn’t even ask for it!) So so so sweet. I came in around 1:40ish on a Sunday. The food was also great! We ordered Yuk-Kal, Eui Ryung SoBa, and Yook Gal Jubsi Gogi. The Jubsi Gogi is small, and only a sidedish, so be prepared. I don’t know if they speak English well, but I think it’d be better if you bring a Korean speaking friend. :) I am DEFINITELY coming back!

Everything here is too sweet… Yook-gae-jang was spicy, but too sweet and a lot of the ban-chan were also way too sweet for my taste. I’m not sure if I would return to have their yook-gae-jang with noodles at this place. The portions were large, but there was nothing special about it.

I was really sick with some terrible throat pain so my friends took me here, and I’m really glad they did! Really good hearty galbi tang, the broth was really rich with beef bone flavor, but also very clean tasting, and the soup comes with a generous amount of short rib, rice and noodle. Their kimchi also tasted really fresh and good, not that weak pickling deal you get sometimes. This meal definitely helped me feel better. The service wasn’t that great, it was one of those situations where they take forever to bring you your check, and then take a long time again to pick it up. Kinda surprising since the restaurant wasn’t that crowded. But hopefully it gets better. Also huge plus: free parking lot!!!

Traditional Korean comfort food. I thoroughly enjoyed it and my Korean friends that went with me said it was authentic. Two thumbs up. +Food: Traditional and delicious. +Yook Cal: Spicy beef stew. Kind of your typical Yook Gae Jang but I think it’s nice that it’s served with hand cut noodles so you can eat it with white rice or noodles. +Gal Bi Tang: Really flavorful, simple broth. I think if you’re feeling the sniffles, this will definitely make you feel better. Something about gnawing on a giant rib bone is always great. Again, comes with the hand cut noodles and rice. +Seafood Pancake: I found this to be more eggy then your usual seafood pancake but I liked that. If you prefer yours more crispy, batter based, you might not like this. It was full of seafood and green onions, yum! +Dong Geu Rang Daeng: Round crispy pork patties. I thought this was okay, nothing too special but my friends loved it. +Service: The waiters were really nice and kept bringing us water and more side dishes. However I did go with my Korean friends and they ordered in Korean +Price: Reasonable $ 10-$ 15 a person +Parking: Free lot however it does get crowded during peak hours. And the security does check for the time limit and marks your tires. Tip: Restaurant name is in Korean. It’s next to Eight.

I love that their menu is simple and everything on there is delicious. The galbi tang was good, flavorful and had a lot of meat in it. The banchan wasn’t that good but I asked for some extras of the pickled dried radish that come with the bossam they have because that was really good. They gave me a lot of that and I ate all of it! Food is mostly under $ 10.

I had it two days in a row because of my absurd cravings for piping hot soup. The beef rib soup definitely fulfilled the korean food deprivation I had all week. So happy i got to have some awesome conversations over a heartwarming meal(two days in a row) :)

Service was good, interior was nice and clean– but sadly the food was not impressive. I came here with my mom because she had heard from a friend that the Yook Kal() was delicious. Now to understand this dish, you need to understand that the concept is a mixture of a spicy beef soup(yook gae jang) and a warm flour noodle dish called kal gook soo. I love both very much and I was really excited to hear this mixture. We ordered that and the seafood pancake to share and let me tell you– the seafood pancake was one of the worst ones I have ever tried. They used too much egg to batter it up instead of using the customary flour batter mix that is usually used for the seafood pancake. My mom especially hated it, which was actually kind of funny cause she kept eating it anyways saying its wasteful. Now moving on to the yook kal– they give you a side of noodles to toss into the dish. The yook gae jang itself is actually prettty good. It has a spicy kick that I liked, but it wasn’t anything different than any other korean comfort food spots that offer it. All it was, was that they offered you a side of flour noodles to throw in(which the portion was really small too). Overall, tried it– wasn’t bad but not 4 star worthy.

I was getting over a fever & the chills and needed some comfort food. Yook Cal Bop Sang made me feel even better! There are only 6 items offered here and we ordered 4 of them. All were delicious, filling, and at a fair price. I especially liked that the soups came with a side of knife-cut noodles and rice. The dishes seemed pretty healthy too. Normally I get super dehydrated from MSG or too much salt, but I felt fine after my dinner. The Yook Cal(spicy shredded beef stew) was super spicy and flavorful. They don’t skimp on giving beef at all. The Gal Bi Tang(beef short rib stew) was also super flavorful and beef was tender. I even saved the broth for the next day and made a dumpling soup! The seafood pancake was fried and greasy, but it was also spicy from red serrano peppers and packed with clams, shrimps, and squid. The Yook Cal Jubsi Gogi(boiled pork) was tasty when paired with the radish kimchi and the salted shrimps. Service wasn’t bad either. There were only 2 servers and a packed restaurant. Pretty much every table was taken, but the servers were efficient and brought everything right away. I would definitely return to Yook Cal to help me stay warm through the cold, winter nights!

This place is fairly new and the food is pretty good. Specialties are the yook hae jang and the galbi tang. The galbi tang is very good and full of meat. They give you about 3 bones and I usually get a doggy bag so my dog can enjoy them. She loves them! It comes with a side of noodles too. I’ve also tried the cold buckwheat noodles which I thought would be similar to naengmyun. It’s a very healthy dish but it’s just not that flavorful. I would pick naengmyun in a heartbeat. Another good dish is the steamed pork belly with the special kimchi. It was unexpectedly delicious. The pork was perfectly cooked and the presentation was beautiful. Next time I will try the yook hae jang and will report back.

Thought this place was average. For a place with a very limited menu, you would expect all items to be good. The yukgaejang was nothing special and the knife-cut noodles they give you on the side seemed gimmicky. The galbitang was worse. Definitely not that flavorful. It does not measure up to Chosun or Park’s. And again the noodles seemed like an afterthought. The donggurangddang(the round flattened koreanstyle meatball things) were falling apart and flavorless.
