Sure, you can probably buy a lot of interesting items from random people via the usual routes(e.g., Craigslist, Ebay, garage sales, etc.), but isn’t it better to purchase them from lovely people who truly appreciate them and their history? I think so, and that is one of the things I value about Yesteryear Essentials. I recently bought a fabulous print from them, an unusual piece that I am so delighted found its way into the right hands and then ultimately into mine. I was chatting with the owners about some recent finds they had made, and they used the term, «rescued,» as in «I just had to rescue these from an estate sale.» We then had a nice chat about where the items were found, what they meant to their former owners, the story they told, the craftsmanship, their historical context, etc., and it was just so refreshing, in this era of rampant consumerism, to buy something from someone who truly cared about what they were selling and its overall significance. They both have a great eye for items that are steeped in significance and beauty, and I can’t think of nicer people from which to procure unusual and rare items.

My husband and I had been eyeing a fabulous copper bar & stools from Yesteryear — they had placed an ad for it on Craigslist. The photos & description were clear and explained any minor defects. My husband shlepped to Eagle Rock to pick it up and it was even better than expected! It is a stunning piece at a fair price. A total deal. Pearse, the owner, could not have been nicer or easier to work with. He was fair, interesting, and Irish. Three for three. ;) We ended up coming home with additional items. Yay for Yesteryear Essentials! We could not recommend them more.
