Didn’t really dig it. Was my first time and probably won’t go back. Fish did not seem fresh.

The food is good, which makes this negative review even harder to write. My husband and I have been to this restaurant enough times to speak confidently about the problems: Not sure there’s any management. No one seating guests, expediting food or returning to tables to refill drinks, etc. Dining at the restaurant is definitely a better experience than ordering takeout. Eating there guarantees you get your food at all, albeit slowly with little attention from the wait staff throughout the meal. Ordering takeout is a disaster. IF(and I mean IF) you can get through to them on the phone, they never ever get the order right. I mean we’ve given them 4 or 5 chances on this and they have never gotten a take-out order right. To boot, they always say the food will be ready in 20 min but it usually takes 45 – 60 min. And wrong orders even with the insane wait. I’m sad to say we won’t be back. I can’t tolerate paying high prices for food when the service is just this awful.

I really should be giving Yen a 2 star based on the service I experience today, but I’ll give it a 3 because it’s normally not this bad. I came with a coworker today hoping for the usual good sushi and quick service. However, it was SO ridiculously slow today, it was really irritating. I did realize that they only has one sushi chef working, but that doesn’t really mean that it should take 35 minutes to get to my miso soup. Like really? After we were dropped off our waters, we weren’t checked in on for over 30 minutes. No one came to update us, apologize, or even give us our ginger and wasabi. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me. After I flagged down our waiter, it still took a long time for our food to trickle out. I noticed a man at the bar, who sat down at least 15 – 20 minutes after we did get his food first. While I can totally understand that they were short staffed, we should have been at least notified so we could have changed our order to a to-go order.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant. The service here is great, the food here is great, and the atmosphere is great. Their udon noodles are to die for. Also their shrimp tempura has so much flavor. Most sushi spots I go to have pretty slow service. Here, even if it is busy, the service is wonderful.

Have been going to Yen for years. The service hasn’t always been great but it’s a convenient location. We placed an order for pick up, received a complete cluster f*** of what we ordered. I decided to call the restaurant to let them know their mistake and instead of taking responsibility, the lady over the phone decided it was best to raise her voice and blame my husband for ordering incorrectly and after I fired back to speak to the manager she offered to give us a free steak. It was handled completely inappropriate, we won’t be returning. Bad service! (To respond to the comment below me) I have the correct address– 9618 Pico & Beverwil and I didn’t ask for the salmon steak, the lady who I spoke to over the phone offered it to me. If you don’t offer it– she shouldn’t offer it. I’m sure her name is on the receipt so you can ask her.

I came here to make a to go order and I was told it would be a 10 minute wait. Ended up taking 30 minutes and I had to keep asking for them to get my order for anything to before. I definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone due to the bad service. Lost my appetite.

I’ve been here a bunch of times with my family and we usually love it here. When they aren’t too busy, it’s always great, fast service but when they are busy and sometimes understaffed, things can get backed back. We love the all day happy hour menu. Some of our favorite items are the crazy boy roll(lightly fried California roll). Take advantage of the 7 dollar pitcher of beer as well.

Been coming to this place for a while now, and often served delicious sushi rolls. Came today for the first time with my girlfriend and experienced awful service. They gave us the wrong order and did not want to take it back. The hostess deliberately pointed at our plate and claimed that there were«Crispy Tempura Flakes» on the sushi, even though there was clearly only rice. Very disappointing, and felt very un-welcomed and watched throughout our meal. Hostess was very unwelcoming, very un-sympathetic, and definitely doesn’t believe that the«customer is always right.» She should know the food served in this restaurant. Other than that, this experience would have been fine.

Average food, inexcusably bad service, terrible experience. I’m not hard to please… I only expect food, drinks, and decent service, but this place failed in 2 of those three categories. Upon entering, we were given odd looks since we had a support animal with us in our party. After hassling us for papers(which is illegal in the first place) we were reluctantly given a corner table. The beer came quickly, that was nice, but after 15 minutes we hadn’t been asked what we’d like to eat and had to flag down a waiter. Once we had ordered, half of our food came out and after 20 minutes with no one coming to check on us(or deliver the other half of our food) we asked if the order order was on its way. Now folks… Everyone makes mistakes, but we’re talking about ordering sushi here. You mark a piece of paper for their reference, and they bring back an order in accordance with how the paper was filled out. After being called out for their lack of executing our order correctly, she asked if we «still wanted the food we ordered.» Yes… Ma’am, that’s why we came. What an unfortunate experience, will pass on this place in the future.

This place is great. Located in the mall on the corner of pico and Beverwil. Staff was very welcoming from the moment I walked in. They have several items on the happy hours list that served during the day. I love the salmon with truffle. I ordered several fun rolls(see pictures). I can’t wait to come back and eat again.

I really like coming here. Food is good and interior décor & ambience of restaurant is really nice! The service however is always a little off.

This place is awesome, my gf and I always come here for our sushi! Happy hour is the best – and great place to get some ice cold brews. Best place in town to get cheap but great sushi.

8 years. I have been coming to this place since it opened 8 years ago. Consistently good sushi rolls at great prices. There was a time we came every friday of every week. There was this awesome lady who used to live in the same part of Japan as I used to tend bar and we would laugh about Los Angeles and Japan. She barely spoke English but always had perfect service etiquette. The bus boy was ontop of every miso soup and every tea refill — beers were cold and delicious. Packed or not this place used to have great food and great service. Bummed To write such a bad review but the service has gone to s**t, If you want details here– Hostess greeted us with a frown. Staff is running around like they are putting out fires. Finally seated by a bus boy Ordered beer — warm with warm glasses Ordered miso — Never arrived Made one large sushi order, waitress rechecked it with us. ½ of our Sushi order arrived and was for the wrong table– so the waitress took the plates In front of my mom and my GF and dropped them at the table behind us, who were seated well after we arrived. Second round, My GF’s order never arrives and my Moms(a $ 15 soft shell crab roll) was missing the crab) Third round, hostess/manager drops 4 rolls — 2 of which were wrong –again– but this time she does not come back with new rolls, instead shows us that the waitress punched«crunch» rolls not«crazy girl» rolls, more than implying it is our fault and then leaves us to eat the rolls we did not order. Asked for the check before meal was done– already ready to leave, it took 17 minutes to drop the check. Miso soup — that never arrived — was on the check, I decide the fasted way to get out of there is to walk to the podium, hostess/manager is nasty when asked to remove it. Advice to owners– fire your managers and get some servers with experience. It’s Los Angeles, you have a great Resturant and people should be proud to work there. Maybe even promote the busboys as they seem to be holding down the fort. Please let me know when you have your Resturant under control and I’ll consider giving it another chance. Until then, that $ 100 check a week will be going to another sushi spot. Arigato Goziamas.

This place has lost its mojo. I used to like it for its cheap but still yummy sushi. But now the sushi is cheap… and not good. The rice is too sticky, the serving sizes are all disproportionate… just not good. And the service is slow and inattentive — you better be ready to assert yourself and flag down a waiter if you want anything, like a water refill or a thing of eel sauce, literally anything. So disappointing. I probably won’t be coming back ever.

Waitress with the glasses is beyond rude and disrespectful and has no idea what good costumer service is and on top of that the food is not even that good so to have to deal with that is ridiculous . From anotha one

All day happy hour? What’s not to like? The fried calamari for $ 3.99 wow tender calamari and crispy batter. The portion size for the rolls are nearly twice what I’m used to. I missed the board items so next time I’m checking the board out first.

Came here for lunch with Anna T. and only ate off their happy hour menu. Honestly the sushi is below average but you get what you pay for. The fish wasn’t fishy. Thank god. The service really needs some work. When we sat down they didn’t even give us our menus? And after we received our sushi we never got plates… Sushi: okay Service: sucks

My go to place for cheap and yummy sushi! They have an «all day happy hour» that includes a great selection of rolls. My favorite thing is spicy tuna on crispy rice. A large Sapporo is only $ 4! If you are looking for good value, this is a great place. Besides sushi, I really love their udon noodle soup. The broth has a really great flavor. I also really enjoy the seaweed salad. My only complaint is that some of the rolls were uneven in terms of the distribution of rice and/or fell apart easily. However this seems like a small price to pay for the generally good food and nice atmosphere.

I found this place via random Unilocal search for sushi happy hour. All-day happy hour can’t beat that. I went at 6pm on a Sat. I know it’s early but it the place was packed with kids. Kids running around screaming. The hostess saw the look on our face and without saying a word sat us at a 2-top in a quiet corner. That was much appreciated. Thank you! The sushi was pretty good. Everything we had was fresh that’s for sure. My only complaint is the timing of food coming out. All our hot dishes came first so by the time our last dish arrived which was the albacore, it was warm. Almost as if it had been siting on the counter for 10 minutes. One thing that is reoccurring in my Unilocal reviews is that I do not like warm sushi. Miso soup — OK. Very fishy tasting Crispy rice w/spicy tuna — A little slopping looking but tasted great Albacore — Excellent. Nice balance of sauce, garlic and scallions. Would have been better if it weren’t luke warm:-( Yellowtail — Very nice, very fresh Shrimp — Can’t really mess this up White dragon roll — Good but a little on the heavy side. Between the 2 of us, we couldn’t finish it. The service was great. All the wait staff were super friendly and attentive. All around, this place is alright in my book.
