We ate dinner here after the last day of a conference. I had the Double Kung Pao and it was very good. I don’t know if I would necessarily seek this place out if I was ever in LA again, but I really did enjoy it. Visited May 2016

Disappointing. Ordered wonton soup and egg roles = pretty hard to screw up but rolls were hollow and mushy with nothing inside(where’s cabbage, shrimp etc?) and wonton was a small side container and I paid $ 11! Could have had whole meal for that! Bad quality and expensive!

Love this place… If you’re dinning there. Every other time I order food from there they fuck up my order. The people who take the order don’t even know the menu, I don’t understand why they don’t have a menu handy so there’s no confusion… Super frustrating and a complete waste of time. Even when they repeat the order back to me, they still manage to either forget items or just send something completely different. Take this into consideration when placing a phone order with them…

Food is delicious and good for its price! The service is a 3 out of 10. We sat there about 10 minutes before we got noticed. Our waitress came to our table and had a face like«okay what do you want». She’s didn’t bother to suggest anything, seemed like she just wanted be done for the day. We got our within a reasonable time but again the waitress did bother to come over and ask we we needed anything else. We fished our food and wanted to try something else but of course our waitress was just chatting away with a table right next to us, I’m guessing they were her friends. I went over the the cashier and asked for a check and I was out of there.

The location is long beach is great ! This location not so much… The food and drinks took forever to come out, the waitress was the worst she totally ignored us, crazy thing is I was eating with a NFL players so she really messed up what could have been a great tip… People should really treat people how they wanna be treated ! So as much as I like the food I won’t return!

Honestly this place is just ok. I’d go back because crispy rice with spicy tuna is my favorite thing on earth and the peacock roll is pretty delicious but the sushi is super non traditional(great when you like cream cheese and lots of sauces with your sushi). It has a nicer restaurant atmosphere and a decent selection of other foods for non sushi eaters. I’ve heard happy hour is pretty good but service is hit or miss. Unfortunately, when I was here there was a guy sitting behind me that was very loudly, very obnoxiously reacting to a basketball game that was playing on the restaurant televisions.

Went there for lunch today. We had the hamachi which was great. Very nice flavor with a little kick. We also had the Korean BBQ, crunch rolls, which I’m not sure about the cream cheese combo, rainbow roll wonton soup. Good portions, but make sure u add one more item to your meal as it is not enough for 3.

The bf and I go to Wokcano for happy hour fairly often. Great HH menu options keep us coming back. That said, this would be a 4 star review if it wasn’t for the service. The main HH waitress has a terrible attitude. BF tried to loosen the vibe and make small talk but got nothing in return. She acts as though she’s annoyed by having customers, regular paying customers. Didn’t get a smile from her until it was time to pay the bill. Then she was extremely friendly. Too late! We shouldn’t have to watch you give great service to other tables and wonder why we’re not getting the same treatment. She was tipped accordingly.

The portions of all their rolls are very small considering what they charge you. Was bummed that they would not let us sit at one of the many empty booth-tables. They said that all these tables were RESERVED. But when we left the restaurant, all the booth-tables were still empty. They should reconsider this policy of holding tables for no-shows and make customers who are actually present more comfortable!

Had dinner with my gf it was delicious wanted more but it didn’t fit any more. Had a great meal first we started off with Served w/Hot & Sour Soup along with House Salad which both were really good not a big fan of soups but this was one delicious soup or unless I was hungry. Then we had some Delicious Calimari a must try my personal favorite then came along our to sushi in which we ordered Spicy Tuna Roll, Spicy California Roll, and Spicy Salmon Roll. Our server«Wolfgang» was great really attentive in checking if we needed anything refilled our cups without even asking. Definitely will come back as I really enjoyed this place.

Came her after the Ellie Goulding concert(which was amazing). It was pretty packed but it was a Friday night. My friend and I found a table in the cocktail area which was dirty and the server came by quickly to clean it off for us. I come here for the fried rice. It’s amazing! The sushi is delicious too but you’ve got to try the fried rice! I had a beer and my friend got sushi. All the food and drinks were great so five stars in that area. The service was fantastic. There was only one cocktail server and she rocked it. This location seems a little bit smaller than some of the others I’m used to but all in all it was a great experience. I want fried rice now that I’ve been talking about it!

The bartender bartending on a Wednesday night is a POS, he only pays attention to females or couples, single guys forget it. He will ignore you until you actually get his attention by disrespecting him! It’s unbelievable! I would give them zero stars if I could!

When getting Asian food, I usually go for genuinely authentic, but every now and then a P.F. Chang’s-like experience can make for a great meal. After hitting up a nearby lounge in downtown LA, my coworkers and I decided to try Wokcano for dinner. The dining room is hip and trendy, and the menu offers three types of Asian food(Chinese, Japanese and Thai), all slightly but not terribly Americanized in the way you would expect at P.F. Chang’s. Because my expectations were lowered by expecting Asian fusion, I was pretty pleased by my experience. Overall, the big portions made the pricing reasonable and the food was hot, fresh and tasty. The entrees are around $ 15 and for $ 4 more you can make it a complete dinner with steamed rice, miso or hot/sour soup, and a salad. Yes, that’s more expensive than an authentic dish in Chinatown, but it’s a pretty good value in downtown. Or you could get the steamed rice to complement your dish by itself for $ 1. We ordered: 1) Shishito peppers appetizer — probably the best thing we had. For $ 6, we had a good sized portion for four of us that probably had over 20 peppers. Like Russian roulette on our dinner table, 3 of those peppers were moderately spicy and 2 were painfully hot! I asked our server if they had milk, and she said she would ask the kitchen staff, but then she never returned! 2) Orange chicken — huge amount of food, probably double what you’re used to. Good flavor, lots of breading 3) Black pepper beef mignon — recommended by our server, who said this is the chef’s favorite dish. Delicious flavor but not as much meat as the chicken dish. Tons of onions taking up room on the plate. 4) Pad Thai — although this is probably the most ordered thing at Wokcano, it was a big too on the sweet side. Still it was decent to satisfy an Asian noodle craving. 5) Unagi(roasted eel) fried rice — The eel was chopped up into bits throughout the rice. This didn’t have that much meat and was pretty basic. I wouldn’t order it again and would probably go for yang chow or the crab rice if I wanted a fried rice next time. This would be better ordered as a platter to share as a side versus a main dish for one person. We all took home significant leftovers because of the huge portions, except for the beef mignon which just had scraps left on the plate since it came with lots of filler vegetables.

Tasty, but overpriced, westernized asian food. Came in on a Thursday night(9pm) and the restaurant was still buzzing! We didn’t have to wait, but were first sat at a table in the sushi bar area. For whatever reason it was extremely humid and uncomfortable so we just left, and ended up sitting at the bar counter(which offers a full menu.) Food: Crab wonton appetizers — very tasty, the crab & cheese was extremely hot as it was fresh out the oven. So be careful when you bite into it. its like pizza bagles. I burned the roof of my mouth. Mongolian Beef — typically a staple of mine when I get chinese food… the beef was very flavorful but there were a few peices that were not cut small enough and was very chewy! The smaller peices of beef were much better, some were even a bit crunchy on the outside. Chinese broccoli in garlic — SOGOOD. I love this dish at a traditional/authentic chinese restaurant and I have to admit they did a fantastic job replicating the flavors. Crunch Roll — dont get sushi here. Definitely a good spot to go to, great with friends or dates as its a young trendy vibe. Food is good, overpriced, but good enough that you don’t feel bad about it. If you like PF Changs, you’ll like Wokano.

Christ this place is a hot mess. We were seated immediately when we got here, not busy at all on a Monday night. We weren’t given waters/m or checked on for 20 minutes. Straight up just sat there with menus closed waiting for a waiter/waitress. It seemed like they just forgot about us. So we went and asked for a waiter who came over and we finally got our orders in. Food comes out decently fast; pad Thai was bad(sour tasting, hard to explain), sashimi salad had too much dressing, brussel sprouts and lettuce wrap were the only things worth getting. And here is the best part. We get the check and place our credit card in it and waiter comes to take it away. 10 mins later he comes back with the same check but without the credit card. We told him that he already took the card with him last time he came around for the check(which is the only reason he would have grabbed the check in first place, why would you grab the check from the table if you didn’t see a card in it?!) Anyways he doesn’t believe us and just keeps going«I’ll check at the register» and we help look under and around the table. Then every 15 minutes he would come back empty handed after«checking the register». He keeps saying«well no one else took it so…» Like somehow we are suppose to provide another form of payment. So then one of us was like let just see which way you walked after you grabbed the check and see if you dropped the credit card. He points us to the right of our table and my friend literally just finds the card on the floor –____– he picks it up and gives it to the waiter who was standing right next to us. We had to stay at the restaurant 45 mins past our meal just waiting around while the waiter tried to figure his shit out. The waiter did take 50% off the bill and knocked off the drinks. But still what the hell. I don’t like being accused of stealing my own credit card.

Made it. Although the parking sucks. No street parking but it’s a nice walk to this place. Nice settling. Can’t wait to bring my boo here. I love the food so I am interested to see what this location has to offer. I sat in the bar area since its open seating and they have Several TVs. It’s pretty noisy in the entire restaurant so don’t look for a super quiet intimate setting. The lights are dim but enough to see your food. I ordered the orange chicken and garlic noodles which is my normal dish.

Every Wokcano seems to be different, and this one is probably my least favorite. The Santa Monica location is great for ambiance and is a little more upscale. The Pasadena location has a great happy hour and is more laid-back, with a chill outdoor patio where you can relax and enjoy one too many $ 2 sake bombs. Happy hour can be anywhere in the restaurant. The Downtown location really doesn’t have much to offer. No great HH deals, poor service, and seems to think it’s much better than it really is. I stopped in for sober happy hour last week. The HH menu is pretty limited and doesn’t have many good deals… Drinks are $ 6, and most of the cheapy rolls(spicy tuna, shrimp, etc) are $ 6 or $ 7… pretty close to normal prices and not worth it for the quality. I went with the $ 106-piece sushi combo(yellowtail, albacore, salmon and tuna). The bar area was crowded, but not too much. My waitress wasn’t very nice at all and seemed annoyed that I needed a few minutes to look at the menu after arriving. When I was ready, she walked by me several times and I had to flag her down to get her attention. She never came back to check up after I ordered. The sushi wasn’t great at all. The cuts of fish were very thin and not of the highest quality, and the rice was hard. I was disappointed. I’ve had better sushi for a fraction of the price at more casual restaurants. This Wokcano seems to be banking on its location and trying to be too trendy for its own good. I’d much rather go to Takami or Octopus next time.

1.5 stars… I have ordered from here a couple of times and I can safely say I am not impressed at all with their food or service. I don’t mind paying a lot of money for food… if it’s worth it. In other words: decent portions or taste really good! The food here is mediocre at best. The portions are quite small for the amount of money it costs and the quality is not good. For $ 10, the lobster and crab hand roll better be good. but it’s small and disappointing with imitation crab meat and a couple of small pieces of overcooked lobster. So embarrassing to admit but I could get a better tasting hand roll at Sushi Stop for $ 4…their crunchy roll is just a piece of tempura, avocado with cream cheese. Rice was not good either… I guess this isn’t the place to order sushi from. I think I’ve learned my lesson and won’t be coming back. P. s. their«free lo mein» offer on Unilocal is pretty deceiving. it’s with a $ 40 minimum purchase.
