The food here is legit! They know what they’re doing as far as combining flavors. I can imagine how much better the food will taste when I go in and eat. We opted for delivery. I will but visiting these guys very soon!

I suppose I should have gotten the burger … Reviews that start like that tend to stray into darker territory. I ordered a chipotle whiz with the sirarcha beast fries. Not only did I wait 20 minutes for my cheesesteak to come, but I got the wrong sandwich. Luckily, or unluckily, I got my fries first, so I downed that whiz-filled mess. The fries held up great, the sauce was overwhelming, but that could have been an effect of many unfortunate events. Needless to say, the wait for my actual sandwich(another 15 mins) was a little shorter, but after eating all my fries, the cheesesteak looked very unappetizing. Most cheesesteaks come brimmed to the ends of the rolls with meat and cheese. Neither was present at this point of disappointment. I didn’t want to wait anymore, so I took a bite into my cheesy sandwich with overcooked steak in it. The fatty smoky cheese assisted the dry steak as I munched into it. Sweats of regret from sitting in the heat too long and eating this ‘wiz wit’, I reached for my invisible napkins I never got to wipe away the dissatisfaction of it all. I should have gotten the burger. to be continued. ..

Super tasty burgers. Good fries. This is serious FKF(fat kid food). It took a while to get my burger even after calling ahead. And they make it known that this isn’t fast food. It was worth the wait, though. A little bit on the greasier side of things, but flavors were on point and I definitely would go back. Sriracha fries are worth checking out.

California is without a doubt a pioneer when it comes to thinking of the craziest and most innovative ways to construct and reconstruct your favorite foods with only the limit of ones imagination. But for a Philly native like my dad, it’s just near impossible to recreate the glory that is an original Philadelphia cheesesteak. Nevertheless, Whiz accomplishes something that most gourmet L.A. restaurants don’t understand. We don’t want provolone or some Kraft cheese slices on our steak sandwich. WENEEDTHEGODDAMNCHEESEWHIZ. The Whiz Wit should be the sole purpose of your journey, unless you really have a hankering for a burger and can’t bother to trudge your caboose over to the thousands of other burger joints in Los Angeles. The minced pieces of steak(which should be cut slightly longer for authenticity sake according to cheesesteak professional Dad) were blended into a creamy-licious cloud of cheese whiz and grilled onions. If you’re really craving the brotherly love of a true cheesesteak, go for a side of hot peppers as well. Sandwich this delicious mess in a perfectly crisp roll, and you’ve got a decently simple yet satisfying meal. Don’t expect to eat at a white tablecloth either. Plop yourself in the middle of a busy intersection in Koreatown, and enjoy! Whiz: At least you know you have the option of not sulking over a Charley’s!

Finally got to try this place out after living in Koreatown for almost a year now. Ordered delivery and got the pork, egg, roll & cheese, house made whiz fries, as well as the whiz wit with jalapeños. The pork, egg, roll & cheese tasted okay and the house made whiz fries were too salty for my liking which I also put ketchup over to help sweetened it a bit but it was too much. On the other hand my boyfriend said his whiz wit with jalapeños was really filling and good. Next time I will try something else and maybe my experience will be better.

Okay Whiz, I gave you another shot. Ordered the Jalapeños Cheesesteak — get ready for a spicy partay in your mouth with a lot of cheese. Despite some of the other Unilocal reviews, the meat in my cheesesteak was tender.(Maybe the jalapeños melted the meat and made them softer, who knows?) The cheesesteak was tasty! It was big too so I would recommend sharing it with a friend who orders another cheesesteak, hoagie, sammie or burger.(I want to try the tuna hoagie next time). I also ordered the Chipotle Whiz fries~ i drizzled some ketchup on it and munched on them while taking bites of the mild chiles offered at the counter. They were kind of dry and bland. I would maybe add a dash of hot sauce to spice things up. The fries are a hit or a miss for me because they eventually stick together. I shall try different fries next time. The waiters/cashiers are super friendly and nice! There’s parking on Oxford in the lot right behind the restaurant(look for the parking spots labeled«Whiz»). Dining area is located on Oxford. You can’t miss it. I would definitely recommend Whiz over Boo’s Philly Cheesesteak!

In a city full of gourmet burger places, this has been one of my favorite so far. Too many places charge over $ 10 for a small burger that doesn’t even come with fries. I’ve been here a few times and have almost exclusively ordered the p dub burger with bacon, but it’s probably the best burger I’ve had in Los Angeles. The sriracha mayo is what really sets it off and it comes in at a decent size for about $ 8($ 9 with bacon). No fries, but I can live with that. There is only outdoor seating, which is kind of annoying. Other than that I would probably rate it 4.5 stars or so.

Dear P Dub Burger, Where have you been all of my life? From your juice, tender meat on the inside yet crisped to perfection on the outside, to your delectable creamy Sriracha dressing, you were divine! Onions and micro-cilantro finished it off, but I also added lettuce/tomato for a small fee. Your brioche bun was also hot and fresh — simply baked to perfection! Since anyone that knows me well knows that I am a Sriracha addict, this P Dub burger definitely caught my eye. This burger was so good, and could have even been spicier. Maybe my taste buds are getting desensitized? The only con was that it finished! I used to live with a friend who loved burgers so I have had quite a few great ones, and this one is definitely up there on the top 5 for sure. AMBIANCE/SEATING: There isn’t really any seating inside the actual restaurant since it’s so tiny. Just a few picnic style communal tables outside if you want to enjoy your burger there. Otherwise take it to go. SERVICE: I was the only one there at the time on a Monday night, and it didn’t take too long for them to prepare my burger, maybe 10 min? If it was busy, I can see it taking a while. To their defense, these are gourmet burgers, not fast food(as a sign on their wall states) so you have to be patient. When I saw the burger for myself, I would agree. This is NOT fast food at all, but rather a delicious gourmet burger that is prepared with care, so be patient! It’s worth it!

I feel like Whiz gets a lot of traffic for just being in a high destiny corner. My friend told me that she bookmarked this place because she drove by. This casual dining spot is fun, tasty and the staff is really sweet. Chipotle Whiz Steak(8.95) — If chipotle sauce is your jam, this sandwich would probably catch your eye. However, if you were expecting a chipotle flavor bomb, you’re not gonna get it. Regardless the steak is really good and flavorful that no extra hot sauce is needed. Buffalo Bleu Chicken Cheesesteak(8.45) — for those who love chicken, this is a great option with lots of juicy chicken meat though the bleu cheese flavor could have used more of a punch. The P Dub Burger(7.95) — The cashier recommended this for its unique flavor. I’m in love with the fact that both sliced American & Tillamook Sharp Cheddar are included. The Sriracha Island dressing is yummy! Of course I’ll add a runny egg $.75! It was the perfect burger under $ 10 which I’ll probably order again. I’m a fan!

I small sandwich shop in ktown. I tried the american bacon. Its kinda small for $ 10 bucks. the taste was decent. A little dry considering its a philly style cheese steak sandwich where moisture should not be an issue. The good thing is that they do have burgers. so i might try those out. They deserve another try. They do have great outdoor seating. So happy for that.

I had this place bookmarked a long time ago and I finally decided to try this place out. The place is right on the corner of 6th and Oxford. Parking can be a bit difficult as there is only street parking. The restaurant itself is small. There is NO indoor seating. All the seating at this location is outside with umbrellas providing shade. I see a lot of people taking food to go. Not sure if there is a restroom. The indoor area consists of the kitchen, condiments, and refrigerators for the beverages. We decided to get the P Dub Burger and the Cheesesteak Hoagie. I decided to grilled onions to my burger. The burger was pretty good. The size of the burger matched the price, the patty and veggies were fresh, and I really enjoyed the spread. The Cheesesteak Hoagie came in a 9 inch roll and tasted pretty good as well. There was plenty of steak and cheese. We also decided to try out the Whiz fries with their chipotle infused cheese. The fries were pretty good, and the cheese sauce wasn’t too bad at all. The service overall is pretty good. They delivered the food to our table in an orderly fashion and were really helpful with what to order. I was definitely satisfied with my experience at Whiz, and it’s definitely a spot to check out in Koreatown if you’re not looking for Korean BBQ.

Came here for lunch with a few friends, one of whom had heard/read good things about it. I was particularly excited to try the sriracha beast fries and one of their many renditions of the chilly cheesesteak(one of my fave comfort foods). The shop itself is tiny with no indoor seating– basically a counter and fridge housed under a roof. Keep in mind that seats are located outside under umbrellas, so you will definitely want to take weather into consideration before visiting. Two of my friends got the sriracha beast fries so I opted to get the Philly crab fries with my chipotle cheesesteak. Big mistake! While the sriracha fries were deliciously covered in cheesy sriracha goodness + grilled onions, mine were just plain crinkle fries covered in old bay seasoning. I feel kind of tricked by false marketing– I was expecting chunks of crab! Sigh the fries themselves were good, but when are fries not? They came with what tastes like canned cheese whiz, of which I am not a fan. My chipotle cheesesteak was passable but i found it to be a little too dry and salty plus was sad that they weren’t more generous with the grilled onions on top. To their benefit, the bread was good and crusty and the sandwiches themselves are quite large– enough for leftovers. Service was friendly and the workers are young and enthusiastic. Another negative was all the flies that wouldn’t stop bothering us throughout the entire meal. Overall, I don’t think I will be suggesting a trip back anytime soon, but am open to giving it another chance in the future.

I wasn’t very impressed by this place. I had the chipotle cheesesteak and Philly mega fries. Both were underwhelming. For the cheesesteak, the cheese sauce was ok, not really spicy or cheesy, just gooey. The meat had a Korean/Asian type seasoning to it(it seemed like it was good quality though), the bread was a typical Amoroso roll, so it was good, but for some reason the sandwich didn’t come together. It was rather lackluster. I’ve had better Philly cheesesteaks from food trucks. The fries were average at best. I did also notice that it took quite some time for my food to come out. It’s a small shop with 3 tables outside where you can eat. It’s more of a take out joint than anything else. They have a shared parking lot with about 6 or 7 spots. It’s shared with a run-down apt with low class residents.(I went around twice looking for parking waiting for people to leave and/or clear the driveway and what these people did was rather appalling.) In short, it’s tough to find parking here. I wouldn’t come back and I regret making the trek here and looking for parking to come here.

I love cheesesteaks. So when I heard about Whiz, I knew I had to check it out. Even though they have other items on the menu, I went with the traditional Whiz Wit and ordered a side of Fries with Chipotle sauce. The cheesesteak was good: the bread was good, and they gave plenty of meat and grilled onions. But the meat was way too peppery and there wasn’t enough cheese overall. So while I can’t complain about the quantity they give, I wouldn’t say this is the best cheesesteak in town. Boo’s and Figueroa’s both have them beat IMO. The Chipotle fries were pretty spot on and I’d get those again. I would return to try their burgers.

Awesome location and idea but nothing too rave about. The place isn’t bad but it isn’t amazing I think it’s fair to give the place 3 stars and this isn’t out of spite or anything that is just how I feel. Right in the middle… that is where Whiz stands for me. My friend and I were dying to try this place for weeks and thought today was the day. We go and order the fried chicken sammie and the beet tuna cold sandwich. We also ordered the pepper jack whiz fries. The fried chicken sammie $ 6? Was good it had a little bit of spice and a the carrots in the sammie definitely gave a kick to the whole taste. I remember I had something like this when I went to ktown night market… haha it was good! Beet tuna sandwich $ 8? This was interesting, I loved how there was no smell of the beet. Beet can have a strong smell that would overwhelm the flavor of everything else but the tuna taste was still there mixed in well with the beet mayo my complaint is the avocados were so. hard… It made me uncomfortable. haha The Whiz fries pepperjack $ 5? We both go nuts for fries haha It was crispy even with all that cheese on them so that’s a plus. The seating today seemed a bit lacking because it was hot, the sun was scorching down on us and the parasols were not able to cover the other half of the benches so… we waited for someone in the shade to leave. hahah They have PLENTY of parking, I was surprised that a place like whiz that do not offer inside seating had such an amazing parking space. hahah I’d have to come back and try other things but it’s fair and square this place was definitely OKAY… nothing more or less.

Stopped here for lunch with my friend Dave who also had this joint on his list for a while. We decided to split the jalapeño jack cheeseteak and their breezy bacon burger. Both were pretty damn good. The cheesesteak was blended with some perfectly molten pepper jack cheese whiz which made every bite delicious. The breezy bacon burger was legit too with some sharp cheddar, applewood bacon, and ketchup and Italian mayo. We also tried the sriracha beast fries made with crinkle fries and a creamy sauce, it was ok but not on par with the rest of the meal. The location is kind of random, on this corner in Koreatown. Hope it does well enough to keep going, the food is damn good and they deserve some success.

I was very excited to try Whiz. I have been on a cheesesteak hunt throughout LA. Every time I drive by this place there seems to be a line. So in my mind I figured that it has to be pretty darn good. However, yesterday when I went in it all made sense. The place is extremely small. That’s why there’s a line. Now that’s good marketing– haha. The staff were nice, and it was funny to over hear some of their convos. That’s why I’m putting 3 stars instead of 2 stars. I ordered the Cheesesteak Hoagie and added grilled onions. It came up to $ 9 and some change, which I thought was very excessive but I still gave a $ 1 tip with the hope it would be amazing and also the lady at the register was very nice. Looking at my receipt I can now tell they charged me wrong. According to the menu, adding grilled onions cost 45 cents extra. The sandwich itself lacked flavor. I liked the texture of the meat. The bread was underwhelming. The whole sandwich was mediocre. I have to agree with a lot of other Unilocalers. Maybe I might be a little biased because I’m from the east coast. However, I tried Boo’s Philly Cheesesteaks the day before and let me tell you Unilocalers— GOTHERE! Nice try Whiz but you failed. I’ll give you a second chance maybe one day. The staff were awesome but the food was Meh.

40% So-so cheesesteak with bacon and American cheese *** Came here for a late lunch Mar ‘13 Whiz seems to be a more casual sandwich shop that appears to specialize in Philly cheese-steaks with a hint of playfulness. There also seems to be other sandwiches and burgers offered, give or take within the $ 10 range. I’ll break down my review to include notes on the food, value, service, and ambiance like I do other reviews. Overall the food was average, and not terrible. There are some positives worth mentioning. I have a hunch I ordered something that just didnt work so well. I knew it would be risky, so I was not highly disappointed when it did not work so well. *Cheesesteak with American cheese and bacon. Approx $ 10. Dish rating, 40%. Notes on the dish: I liked: –You can taste the flavor of the beef. –The hot serving temperature. –Generous amount of beef and a filling sandwich. –The bread was good and not too heavy. Things that didn’t work for me: –The flavors were too salty. In particular, the bacon and cheese contributed to this overkill in flavor. –Much of the cheese was oddly under the beef and not on it. –The sandwich gets tedious after a few bites. Value is reasonable considering the portion sizes. It would have been a more attractive value if the sandwich was even pretty good, but that sadly wasn’t the case. Service is at the counter with tips being optional. The staff seemed friendly. The place wasn’t busy when I visited, and the sandwich came out under 10 minutes. It’s good for what it is. Ambiance is more or less non existent. There are benches outside and that’s it. Despite this, its comfortable enough for the occasion and I have no complaints. Only other suggestion I might have is try and bring a beer if you can. I think the cheeseburger would work much better with a beer to go along with it. Not sure if Beer Belly would mind if you brought a cheese-steak from their sister eatery in, but I imagine it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Overall, its worth giving Whiz a shot. I just wouldn’t recommend anyone order what I had. ***Detailed review Detailed review will break down what worked in the dish further. Overall this dish had some good points, and there were some components I didnt care too much for. In the end, I thought the sandwich became tedious in its more aggressive salty flavors. The good qualities are worth mentioning. First thing i noticed was that portion size was very generous. Thankfully, the beef and bacon slithers used is generous and they arent just giving you a lot of starch and filler material. There is also a good balance between the meat, cheese, and bread. Second, the serving temperature of the sandwich worked well. I liked how it was served nicely hot, seemingly right out of the kitchen. For this reason, I would be hesitant to take the sandwich to go, if it means driving too long. I generally liked the quality of the beef. It did not seem over-seasoned, nor over cooked. It reminded me of k-bbq brisket in texture, although(for better or worse) leaner. There seemed to be hint of pleasant metallic finish, and not muted meat that was just texture. It did have a nice chew as well. For this reason, I’m tempted to return and try another sandwich. The bread used worked. It was fairly light and not too dense. For such a large sandwich, it seemed as if the bread used wasnt excessive. It wasnt starch heavy, something I always appreciate in a sandwich, Other parts didnt work and seemed to bring down the sandwich several notches, despite it showing promise otherwise. The bacon did not work. Although i liked how there was a good amount of fat in the meat, I found it to be unpleasantly distracting. It was too salty. By itself, it would have been a mild distraction. However, added the salty American cheese, it was overkill and unbalanced. Speaking of which, I wished there was either some other ingredient to offset the saltiness, or if the bacon was simply less salty. It was also a bit unfortunate that the bacon did not offer more smokiness. The American cheese did not work so well. Aside from it being salty, it was odd how the cheese was dispersed under the beef and not on top of it. This gave the bottom bits of the sandwich, a saltier and heavier feel that the top. Im not sure if this was a careless or deliberate execution choice, but I did not care for it. Portion size is generous. It was a larger sandwich where I found filling. I think some with more modest appetites could share it between two or take it home for another meal.
