Sweet sweat retreat. Use the steps as a warm up, walk/run the Heights, then head over to the Bowl for a real workout. The history of the steps has been told to me as a way to bring folks who lived at the top of the hill, to the bottom, without having to get in the car. Well, what worked in the 20’s, works in the new millennium. Note: there isn’t a locked gate at the top and you don’t need to live in the neighborhood to access it. You can enter off Milner and there is a street sign that says, «Whitely Heights Steps».

The Whitley steps are neat, but I wouldn’t call it a challenge or workout in the least. It is definitely a quaint little spot off Highland and Milner. The steps are situated in a neighborhood and you can look into the houses from the steps, which I believe to be very awkward(the picture of the koi pond in the photos is actually someone’s porch; I don’t know why someone would post that publicly, but OK). It is a short walk, but VERY beautiful views, even the awkward ones where you’re looking into someone’s home. I cannot emphasize enough that if you are in the average-incredible shape range, this place is not for a workout. No joke, when I went, I saw a guy in his pajamas walking his dog up the steps. He looked hungover. That’s what a non-challenge this place is. I really don’t know why this is listed as a hiking spot at ALL. Further, I would not recommend running the steps, as they are narrow and if you don’t see someone, it would be a total disaster. giving it 5 stars for its public value and attractiveness. it doesn’t tout itself as a hike or workout, it claims itself as a set of historical steps and it is exactly what it purports to be!

great challenge, scenic, I recommend if you’re in Hollywood and want to make the climb.

Very cool & very hidden. I’ve apparently passed by them numerous times while walking the district. Colorful homes and landscaping to accompany you on the walk up or down. The gate is always unlocked, okay well usually unlocked. Safe area to walk in the evening. Used by the locals.

Very cool slice of Whitley Heights. The Whitley Steps take you up or down(depending where you enter from) on Whitley Terrace to Milner Road. A nice shortcut to the Hollywood Bowl or a thigh working that provides a scenic overlook engulfed in oldschool HollywoodLand real estate. See the Hollywood sign and the big ass cross from the steps’ peak. A must do for anyone in the 90068.
