Do I stay here, or do I go to Taki Taco, which is a few feet down? Well, Taki Taco used to be the best, and went downhill real quick. Now, I don’t even see the truck anymore. This is not my closest option for tacos, but it’s my favorite local option now. I’ve had the lengua, al pastor, asada, buche, cabeza, and chicken tacos here. The buche is always tender and on point. The chicken was actually something I hardly ever get in tacos, and I had it here, and was totally sold on it. That’s what I’ve mostly been getting nowadays. I felt the al pastor wasn’t amazing… it was not bad, and I do get it fairly often, but don’t expect it to taste like it came off the ‘trompo’ spit, because I don’t see then using a spit. The asada is much better than I had at Taki Taco. The lengua and cabeza were not as good as Taki Taco, but again… that’s gone, and that started sucking too, so I should get over that. I’ve recently started asking for just cilantro and onion, because they are a little heavy on the salsa otherwise. Tacos are 1.50 a pop. You can get limes, a variety of salsas(some liquid, some chunky, some hotter than others, but all with a good flavor). If you need salt, ask for it at the pickup window. Make sure you have plenty of napkins(available on a dispenser on the side of the truck) and dig in. Oh, there’s hand sanitizer for you to use, also. Seriously, if you like a lot of salsa, get it with everything on it(«con todo»). Again, the salsa is not necessarily spicy going in(though it does taste amazing) but if you eat a lot of them, you’ll be reminded the next day. The staff is not as friendly as the original Taki Taco staff were(not after the new truck, when they started sucking), but it seems like they warm up to you when you start going more. You can get the standard Mexican Cokes, Sidral, etc. here. They also have burritos, quesadillas, and other typical taco truck fare. If you’re vegetarian, they have veggie-friendly options here. One thing to note is that there are a lot of homeless in this area. They’re all mostly laid back. The main reason is probably that there’s also a 7-Eleven next to where the truck parks. Being that there is in fact a 7-Eleven, umm… who’s to stop you from getting a tall can and enjoying your tacos«the right way» :) I see a lot of locals AND Oxy students coming here to eat. Given the amount of taco choices in Highland Park, they have to be doing something right, if Oxy kids are coming here to grub!

Delicious food. I always get the vegetarian burito and my husband always gets the Asada burito. Great big filling buritos.

I saw this truck down the street from my apartment and was craving tacos and tortas, so I decided to check this out. They had tacos, burros, and tortad, and some meal specials for the chicken or buche(pork belly). The tacos were $ 1.50 each and I got the chicken, pastor, and buche. I also got the chicken torta special, which came with a free drink(I got horchata). There was a salsa bar, and the ingredients looked fresh. The truck accepted cash only, no credit cards. The food came out relatively quickly. They used a flimsy plastic bag without handles for my to go order, so carrying the food back to my place was a bit tricky. The tacos were all really tasty, even after reheating. The meat had a nice flavor, especially the pastor. The chicken torta was also delicious and filling and had a decent proportion of fillings to bread. The horchata was refreshing, though a bit on the sweet side. Nice to know that there is a nice taco truck near my apartment if I am craving quick Mexican food.

Ok I think I found my new favorite taco truck. OMG the Carne asada burrito is so tasty and packed with flavor. I think this is the best taco truck in LA. It’s fast, convenient, and reasonably priced. It’s located every night in front of 7-Eleven on Figueroa St. So what you waiting for you must head out there and try it. You won’t regret it.

This is the absolute best truck in la. Love these guys. They’re fast, the Carnitas and the Asada are excellent, I like their pollo as well but I usually go for the other meats. It’s simple orders for me, tacos and burritos. Great prices. I eat here 5 – 7 times a week though I have many excellent options in highland park.

As taco trucks go some are meh, some good, not so good… and some really great. Taco Azteca is one of the great ones on my list. The taco Azteca truck serves up some of the best carne asada tacos, burritos, and quesadillas I’ve had. They also have a really hot spicy guacamole sauce that’s the best ! They also have other meats but my favorite is ‘carne asada’. The prices are reasonable and the burrito is a meal in itself. The taco-istas are fast and friendly. You can actually call your order in so when you head out after last call your food will be ready to go when you get there. You can also dine ‘al fresco’ standing or sitting on the cement planter in front of the check cashing place. Its close to the 110 on Ave 52 and Figueroa, in front of the 7 – 11, so you can grub down and head out.

The best burritos I’ve ever eaten! I’m a huge taco/burrito truck fanatic and the best happens to be in my neighborhood!

I get to them at least once a week. I have tried a couple of the other 90 trucks in the area and Viva Taco Azteca is by far the best of the bunch. Always super friendly, quick and freaking delicious. I am a simple steak taco guy and these are by far the best tacos I have had since I moved to LA last year.

I used to pick a veg burrito here a lot, as I used to live right up the hill. They are all very friendly and glad to take a special order. I liked going here until I got sick on consecutive visits. Sorry, have to take it down from five stars to two.

Just had carne asada tacos for the first time! Let me add that the asada is pure deliciousness! The tacos are 1.50 pretty pricey but for the quality and quantity I sure wasn’t disappointed! Unfortunately that’s the only good thing about it! I ordered a pastor burrito and it lacked the«juicy ness» the meat brings and the tortilla was a lil off at the time. I did end up making a bfast bowl with the leftover from the burrito and it was good… Even the tortilla had a taste to it! Def considering tacos from here next time! Muy delicioso!

I am on a taco quest to find the best tacos in various parts of town. I live in Highland Park, so I figured I would start in my neighborhood. I’ve tried the various ones around here and this one is far superior to all the others. The carnitas are soft with crispy edges. The asada has amazing flavor. And if you get a burrito I recommend the al pastor con queso. It’s so close and so good I eat here at least twice a week. I NEVER regret my decision.

This is how you do Viva Taco Azteca right: Buy a tall can from that corner 7-Eleven. Order 3 tacos de asada or burrito from this awesome taco truck (with radishes, lime & pico de gallo). Go sit in your ranfla, tune in to Art Laboe & just kick it. Do this & I’m a happy girl. Perfection. Seriously, I don’t ask for much. The only thing that can make it better is if you remember to bring napkins so my ass doesn’t have to get out & walk back to the taco truck. Your Homegirl, Violy

Great taco truck and the guys who run it are really friendly. The pastor, carnitas, and lengua tacos are all delicious. I also tried the vegetarian burrito on the recommendation of Unilocaler Dave L.(thanks!) and it was excellent. I am really excited to have discovered that option. Good variety of salsas as well as radishes, pickled peppers/carrots/onions, and roasted peppers/carrots/onions. Only gripe is that sometimes the tacos are very greasy(specifically the pastor and carnitas), but hey, it’s a taco truck.

This is the one. This is the vegetarian burrito of Los Angeles. I still like TakiTaco’s, 100 feet down Figueroa(at night), a paragon of simplicity with its sharp red sauce, onions and cilantro. But the Viva Tacos Azteca vurrito has chunks of avocado in it, and beans and rice and the right white cheese and not too much lettuce, and it’s wrapped up all fat in its foil and it’s almost too big to finish let alone have one of these and then immediately another at TakiTaco and I implore you not to try that; just take my word. You’ll want to try all four salsas, but get extra of the one we call«miracle sauce» — it’s that grassy green avocado dressing flecked with herbs that makes everything’s gonna be okay now, mijo. The jamaica is beyond reproach(okay, I sometimes take it home and water it down), and — best of all — this truck is in its expected location at lunchtime, even on(some? all?) weekdays and definitely on the weekends when we’re going to the park or some hoity-toit thing in South Pasadena.

Found this truck on Ave. 52 and Figueroa yesterday. I didn’t want fast food, but had little hope of finding a taco truck during daytime hours. Win! This truck doesn’t have a long menu. Just your standard tacos, burritos, quesadillas and tortas, and basic meats(no seafood). Tacos are cheap, plus there is a little station of house-made salsas(including avocado, my fave), roasted peppers, to-go cups, and baggies, all on ice and behind a little door so it stays clean. The guy taking our orders was nice and asked whether we wanted the tacos loaded up with everything. I tried 3 tacos… al pastor, carne asada, and chorizo. To me, the chorizo was the shining star. Not too fatty or greasy, but finely minced and with that perfect, velvety chorizo texture that it should have. The carne asada was of high quality too. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pastor… it was TOO spicy and cut into large chunks… I prefer tacos to have finer sliced meats. Huge pieces or pork in a taco can taste too tough. All of the tacos were on the spicy side, so make sure to taste before you salsa them up! I’m happy I found this truck and would love to come back. Also, please let it be known that this taco truck was visited during daytime hours and in complete sobriety, so that should tell you that it was a top-quality truck.

The tacos are a little on the small side, but taste frickin excellent, the pastor are so nice and juicy, and for a buck, ya just can’t beat that. Plus, it’s my duty to give them 5 stars because I dropped my 3 tacos on the ground like 2 seconds after I got them, also shattering a glass soda bottle in the process right in front of the truck. As I picked the mess up off the ground and sadly sat on the curb to attempt to eat it anyway(sadness), the guy actually came out of the truck looking for me and said«the girl wants you.» I went over to the truck and she was making me 3 new tacos. Gratis. Despite being stared at by them for being caught in the act of eating ground tacos I instantaneously became forever loyal to this truck. And I got 6 tacos for the price of 3, yay!!!

After 8pm in Highland Park you pretty much can’t swing a cat without hitting at least three excellent Mexican food trucks. The Taco Faithful make pilgrimages from all over the Basin, and to be honest it’s hard to go wrong. Leo’s in particular seems to be the darling of the migrant gringos and Unilocalers at the moment, and for tacos that reputation is fairly deserved. However, I would be remiss in not pointing out the makers of the BEST carne asada burrito I’ve had in LA: Taco Azteca, parked nightly in front of the 7-Eleven on Figueroa and Ave 52. Strips of perfectly-seasoned steak with just the right balance of rice, beans, and onions, topped with their fantastic self-serve salsas. Super friendly owners, too. The burrito has brought me back at least a dozen times now, and it has yet to disappoint. Next time you get that craving, give it a try.

Awesome food truck in Highland Park. The best chicken torta I have had in a very long time. Find this truck and you will be very happy and satisfied.
