Gave this place another try and I’m glad I did. Small mom and pop store. Looks to be well knitted in the Boyle heights community. Ordered the green juice and it was delicious. The juice was creamy, vitamin packed, and perfect for the cleansing. Will definitely go back for the other juices.

I am so glad I found this place! Anything you order will be healthy and taste excellent. That’s exactly what I found at Velarde’s Fruits!

Wow, what a find! Velarde’s Fruits is mainly a Mexican Restaurant that tastes and feels exactly like eating in Mamacita’s kitchen. Everything is fresh and delicious. The health fruit drinks are made to order, healthy, and varied. «Guisado’s» has the rep, but this place delivers. Gloria, the owner doesn’t speak english, but she is sweet and really wants to please– that’s authentic. Parking is a challenge, but I always manage to find a place. Not too many seats– only room for 4 at a table. Don’t be afraid of the neighborhood, it’s cool. This place is the best restaurant in the world.

Good food with several healthy and some not so healthy options. Overall a great place with great service and a fair price. A must visit during your visit to ELA.

Oh my, the very best most authentic mexican I have ever tasted. We ordered 3 different plates and they were all so delicious. To top it all off, we get hot handmade tortillas. Wow! The customer service was off the charts. Better than a fine restaurant.

My girlfriend has been coming here for 30years. Now she has me hooked. Been here like 10 times. I stopped In here today during CICLAVIA to recharge with a green juice during the heat wave. Juices are first rate, made to order. Forget those chain juice stores. This is community, local.(Food is really good. Got some burritos twice before)

I am so extremely impressed by this humble little place! I came here with quite low expectations but left here so satisfied! I was kind of in a rush and indecisive over all of the great options they had so I settled for a carne asada torta. AMAZINGAMAZING! Not only was it ready in only a couple of minutes but it was so tasty and filling! Also I may add that with tax it was only around $ 5! You can tell that everything is so fresh and tasty here! I can’t wait for it to get a little hotter so that I can come in any enjoy some of their fresh fruit options and a mangoniada! Ooops! Almost forgot to mention that the people working here are so incredibly sweet and attentive! Their service alone is worth five stars!

You’ve been here. Yes you have. You know, at the nexus of «take my money» and«just take it now!» Yes, it’s that place. It’s a hidden gem, and you should go find out. Having visited here on countless occasions since I used to intern for LA City Hall’s 14th District, I have found it to be an incredibly undervalued establishment. While parking isn’t so great here and it’s on the ever-busy part of Cesar Chavez, get out of your car and stroll on down. It’s a hole in the wall, and it is really welcoming. I tend to not come here at night, but when I do get to visit I go nuts. Yes, nuts and expletive nuts. The escamocha is the best thing here, and it comes in two sizes. It’s basically fruits with cottage cheese, honey, and granola on top. And for it’s portion, it’s a great value. It’s like getting away with murder, without the murder. Whether or not that makes sense, consider the small size good enough for two people and the larger for at least four to six. The mixture that is the eschamocha is delicious because of the way the flavors come together when you take a bite. You get sour, creamy, and a bit of crunchy too. That may come together in many other dishes with a sense of remorse, but here you have something that is fairly healthy, light, and comforting. Perfect for a sunny day or a light meal, it’s no wonder this place has been here for over 25 years. It’s still underrated, however, as many people don’t know about this establishment, and the goodness it really offers. Stay away hipsters. Most people forget about the tacos or the smoothies, but I do recommend them if you want something a bit hearty. If you are parking, consider going down a few blocks and walking to Verlarde’s Fruits. It’s perfect to go with your friends who don’t mind a low key hole in the wall establishment, but have a great appreciation for taste.

I have been coming here for ages. Its really good. My favorite thing on the menu to order is a torta of carne asada. Its really flavorful. The salsa they have is also very good. The breakfast at this place is also very good and inexpensive. Another constant thing i order is a milkshake, very good and very fresh. Its a cash only place so don’t come here expecting to pay with a debit/credit card.

Have you ever had a mangoliada? It’s a pureed mango frozen into a popsicle served with a sweet, sour, and salty sauce on the side. Verlade’s Fruits is an interesting fruit store as they specialized in selling ready to eat, cut up exotic fruits(beyond the pineapple, mango, and kiwis) — fruits that are unusual in the US, but common in Mexico and other parts of Central America. The mangoliada is utterly homemade. It was served to me in a disposable plastic cup. A plastic spoon was used as the«popsicle» stick. The guy working behind the counter made the sauce right there and then when I ordered from them. The sweet and sour part of the sauce I could handle, but I’m not a fan of the sour and salty combo. After trying a couple licks, I decided I would finish the popsicle sans sauce. I also got a pork tamale just for kicks. It was meh(too much masa, not enough filling and it was a bit dry too). Stick with the fruits and smoothies at Verlarde’s.

This place is awesome! My mom worked up the street and I remember being little and coming with her on her lunches when I would go with her to work. I met up with her again, now being 28, for lunch a few weeks before she retired and forgot how great this place was and the memories it brought back. It’s a great place with great food! They even made a special veggie drink and called it the Nancy special. It was good! My mom and dad have since moved to Washington State but as long as I live in Los angeles I will continue to eat here.

Have you ever had an escamocha? No? Fresh fruit(papaya, mango, strawberries, etc), cottage cheese, granola, honey. Not to be missed when in Boyle Heights.
