Worse Alaskan halibut ever! Small pieces, overcooked, no flavor, not worth the price($ 12.98 for 2 pieces) many other places to eat at this Farmers market. No need to stop here. The pictures shown is nothing like the actual plate you get. Should’ve read the reviews before ordering

We journeyed to la farmers market to eat and shop. We decided to eat and got seafood. The food was good nothing spectacular. I ordered a side of beet which were great but their specialty coleslaw was ok at best. I think el pollo loco has better slaw. We got trout salmon and New England clam chowder all good but really pricey. In fact most of the places were too expensive.

Only place my sister new to buy some fresh fish to grill, the out door market is cool with lots of places to get coffee and such, being from Texas it’s hard to swallow paid parking every where, good new was a bbq joint in the same place, if going to the grove cool place to check out

Their cocktail sauce is the best I’ve ever tasted! The jumbo prawns were pretty good, too, but then it just tastes like all other peeled shrimp.

If you eat fairly often at the Farmer’s Market stalls on Fairfax & Third, your expectations can become unreasonably high. There’s Loteria and Fritzi’s and Little Spain, and lots of other truly great places to eat, but essentially, you’re in an overrun outdoor food court. And like with any food court, when you go with a herd of friends: everyone takes a lap together, spots what they want, and bolts in different directions to get it as fast as they can. It’s kindof the unspoken bloodsport of the environment. Food! Table! Eat! Getting fish tacos at Tusquellas was the wrong choice in that sprint to a meal. All my friends had their food and were finished by the time I sat down. It would be one thing if it was busy, but it was just a really poorly managed place. One guy in the kitchen making all the meals, and three or more people at the counter taking orders. Every single person out front asked me if I needed help more than once, after I’d already ordered. Because there wasn’t much for them to do. But I’m known to forgive a lot, or call hangry behavior when I see it and cut a place a break _if the food is good. Not the case here, unfortunately. p. s. The massive refrigerated rows of salads with boiled shrimp on top may have some sort of retro or historic value but… the food looked cold, sad and grey.

Two stars for generosity because I only ordered fried oysters. I’m willing to try more from this joint but with hesitation. Overly battered shards of oyster with the strangest consistency. The batter was fully cooked and thick but did not stick to the oyster at all. The oyster still moved around as if it was completely raw and was not even touched by heat. I like raw oysters but it was strange feeling like instead of eating raw oysters from the halfshell I was eating raw oysters encased in a shell of crispy batter. The service was polite but it took for-ev-er to get only four oysters that I ordered.

Many of the reviewers a posting on the incorrect Unilocal site. Bob Tusquella’s has the Tusquellas Sea Foods, which is a fish market. The other is the Tusquella’s Oyster Bar which is where customers are ordering meals. I buy most of my fish from Tusquellas Sea Foods. Salmon fillet is my fav. Tuna salad is another. I’ve been going here since 2002.

I really like the quality of the fresh grilled fish here. I always get it with salad as the side choice and use just fresh lemon slices to squeeze for dressing when I’m wanting to eat more healthfully. I’d give this 5 stars but portions are on the small side and the prices as a result are just a little high. The Gumbo Pot also has grilled fish options with salad, but there you get fewer choices of fish(I think it’s only either catfish or red snapper) but then again the salad is a lot bigger, maybe the fish portion too, and you get some corn bread on top of all that. Not quite as healthful, though. Both these places in the farmer’s market take a while to cook your fish — be patient. Overall I do feel the summary rating of this place on Unilocal is a bit underrated.

For $ 13 broiled salmon steak with 1 side, I would expect them to atleast seasoned the fish with salt. The broiled salmon steak came out bland, portion was skimpy, and they tried to make up for it with a huge portion of coleslaw. C ‘mon, I ‘m paying for fish, not coleslaw. Bummer

Came here on a date might with my son and i wanted Halibut. They had halibut & chips. It was ok. I feel like the fish was frozen. Idk. It tasted manufactured. Maybe it was dumped in too much batter? Anyway– might come back!

CASHONLY. I like the Retail store more. And I like various Fish Grill locations more. But, there are some things I like a lot. The snapper or the trout are good bets. In terms of side dishes, I like the Seafood Pasta. Lord knows what all is in there(noodles, tiny shrimp, Krab, peas, olive oil dressing) but it sure is tasty. The French Fried Shrimp and Fries goes over pretty well for the younger set. The fried oysters, I’m told, are not quite what at least an East Coaster had in mind. Take that for what it’s worth! Nice to hang out and watch all the people of the Farmers Market.

So after a movie at the Grove, I decide to grab a bite to eat at the Farmer’s Market. My girl immediately heads over to the BBQ place as I wander looking for something I’d be in the mood for. A sign at Tusquellas Sea Foods catches my eye… SIGN = 2 Pieces of Fish & Chips + 2 Sides only $ 11.99 Fish & Chips! That’s a no brainer. No need to look further! At least no need to look further than the Sides Menu, which is exactly what I did. I carefully selected my 2 sides: cole slaw and seafood salad. The perfect balance to the fried feast I was sure to receive. Now I was ready to order… EMPLOYEE: Can I help you? ME: Yes, I would like the Fish and Chips please, and for the sides I would like the cole slaw and the seafood salad. EMPLOYEE: So, no fries with that?(he was waiting to go there) ME: Of course fries. EMPLOYEE: Then its going to be extra. ME: How is it going to be extra? Doesn’t it come with the meal? EMPLOYEE: Well, the chips are one of the 2 sides. You just ordered 3 sides, so its extra. ME: But the sign says Fish AND Chips PLUS two sides… EMPLOYEE: Yeah, you can order fries as one of the two sides… ME: … ok, whatever, forget the seafood salad. I’ll take a Diet Coke as well. EMPLOYEE: We only serve iced tea… 10 minutes later I got my «feast». 2 tiny pieces of fish that look like someone dried out a couple of sponges and deep fried them which tasted just a such. I really felt bad for these fish. No honor or nobility in their death. Only a parody of what they could have been. The fries were served almost as cold as the cole slaw, which was probably the best part of the meal because it was the only part of the meal they got right. I award Tusquellas my first«1 Star»!!

A so-so fish-food stand at the«Original» Farmer’s Market. I was doing fieldwork near the area so I decided to stop at the Farmer’s Market for lunch. It was a hot summer day and parking is hard at this place. Whewww! Anyway, I wanted to go to Pampas Grill but could not locate it. So I settled on Tusquellas and ordered their Grilled Tilapia fillet plate. The order came with one side dish so I chose the rice pilaf.(There were other choices for the side dish but I don’t remember them.) I also asked for a glass of water but they did not give it away for free. So I had to buy one of their bottled water for $ 1.60. Whew. Expensive workday lunch. Oh did I mention that the fish plate was $ 12? That isn’t so bad except that it was uninspired. It came with some hispanic sauce for which I don’t know its purpose. I requested it to be on the side. Good thing they serve tartar sauce which pretty much saved my day. Other important points: 1) They don’t have a tip jar– which kinda balances them not serving free water. 2) the service is good. (Prices quoted include tax.)

This was my first experience with a shrimp tostada salad and it was THE fishiest shrimp tostada salad ever; to the point of wanting to throw up. And it was way overpriced like everything else is at the Farmers Market here. The shrimp is way too fishy in taste, the guacamole looks like it came from a toothpaste bottle, and the salsa tastes like the Tostitos Salsa Dips at the supermarket. At least the shell was good. It was still crunchy. I don’t know how everything else tastes, but I don’t think I can trust them to try anything else a second time.

My newest discovery at the Grove Farmers market along with the French bistro across the way! Awesome place to get fresh shucked oysters for cheap($ 1.50 for a Fanny Bay). I don’t recommend the pre shucked ones, they were kind of frozen and not nearly as tasty. But kudos to them for offering fresh ass seafood.

After wandering through the Farmers Market and looking at the menu of each and every stand trying to decide what we wanted to eat, we settled on this. A bowl of clam chowder on a cold, slightly windy Sunday seemed like a great idea for a light lunch. Boyfriend ordered the shrimp tacos that sounded pretty delicious based on the description. Utter disappointment. The clam chowder didn’t really taste like clam chowder. I’m not very picky when it comes to clam chowder. I’m actually relatively easy to please, but this did not taste like clam chowder at all. The potatoes in it were still relatively hard and the only saving grace in this whole deal was that I at least ordered it with bread so I had that to snack on. The shrimp tacos were sub par for being almost $ 9 for two(two that weren’t very generous in terms of portions.) 14 bucks for icky clam chowder and 2 tiny, just OK, tacos. No thanks. Never again! Back to eating at the nearby Phil’s deli.

Dude, Tusquella’s USED to be the bomb man and the Fish & Chips USED to be $ 8.98(the Cod — which is significantly more moist than the dry-ass Halibut they now serve — which BTW is more expensive!)… Ok — I still go there — it’s been years so I’ll be going there until the day I give it one star… it’s called consumer loyalty… too bad they don’t have that program yet… On the up side — get the oil slick seafood salad as a side with the onion rings… the clam chowder in the bread bowl is cool too when you spice it up with hot sauce and pepper! Look ya’ll it’s a seafood place nowhere near the sea — get over it and order up! Hey — if you’re that girl who used to work the counter and I took your picture — the one who got the med assistant job and left… hit me up — your picture now has a back story… it went from LA(where it was crushed then covered with oil stains) to Mountain View, Ca to Washington State… where it got bent to shit… I finally got it back — but my cat ate the corner of the matte board it was on… so, my bad — but I GOTIT!

It’s a good seafood outlet at the Farmers Market. But my 1-star review is due to the owner’s maltreatment of live animals. Don’t get me wrong — I’m a card carrying carnivore. I eat all the standard animals, plus some of the non-standard ones(e.g., reindeer). But there’s no reason that we have make animals miserable before we eat them. There’s no reason to mistreat live lobsters or any other living animal… except for mosquitoes, they deserve what’s coming to them.

Where I’m from, seafood is plentiful and fresh, so I’m a bit of a stickler when it comes to it. I got the fried haddock with onion rings. The size of the haddock was small, and overbattered. The haddock itself was passable. There were a lot of onion rings and they were well-fried. It’s a touristy, overpriced spot, but it gets the job done.

I ate the crab cakes with 2 sides here yesterday. For the sides, I had the french fries and a mixed salad with french dressing. I enjoyed the food very much. The lunch was $ 14.98 plus tax. I’ve eaten the shrimp louie salad here before and that was also good. Fresh seafood and no fishy smells or tastes. The only thing I didn’t enjoy about yesterday’s lunch was that it was 95 degrees and you sit outside while eating. Luckily, we got a table with an umbrella. Cheers.

At the Farmers Market, I enjoy the fried seafood at Tusquellas. The food is on the pricier side for the dinners, but the quality of the food is fresh and good. I can see my food being prepared in the small kitchen from the back windows. There is plenty of seating very close by. On a recent visit, I snacked on 2 Fish Tacos($ 3.98 — 2PM to 9PM only in Spring 2007), which were breaded fish sticks, shredded cabbage, diced tomato salsa, & tartar sauce in double corn tortillas with lemon wedges on the side. Not bad! Tasted pretty good with my other Farmers Market treats. The prices in Spring 2009 have gone up including the 2 Fish Tacos for $ 5.98 and 2 Shrimp Tacos for $ 8.98, 12PM-9PM only.
