We had the hash brown chilaquiles and double stuffed potato tacos. Both were super good. The chilaquiles had a great citrus spice to them. Super unique but so good. The double stuffed potatoes were good too. They seemed to lack a bit of the flavor I would hope for but still, very good. The overall ambiance is super hipster. The logo has a 70’s vibe and they play music of a record player in the corner. The servers match the feel, but they’re super helpful and hospitable. No complaints. Four stars. Food was excellent but the quantity didn’t match the price. The tip is charged automatically.

I went in with zero expectations, and really liked it. The double-decker potato tacos were quite delicious(2 moderate-sized tacos per order), as was the french toast(smaller than expected; might be better to share after the meal). The horchata was good, but I would have liked a bigger glass. The space is no-frills and the staff is super friendly. Some things to note that will(hopefully) make your experience more enjoyable: come early; the earlier the better as wait times can be 60+ minutes past noon. Valet parking is offered in the shopping center where the restaurant is located, but fills up quickly. Prices are on the higher end of the spectrum.

I’d really love to know where because I think I’d actually die of a foodgasm if there is stuff out there better than the Chicken Milanesa topped with maggi ranch and thinly sliced cucumbers!!! 2nd. Chicken Milanesa topped with maggi ranch and thinly sliced cucumbers!!! 3rd. Chicken Milanesa topped with maggi ranch and thinly sliced cucumbers!!! 4th. Chicken Milanesa topped with maggi ranch and thinly sliced cucumbers!!! Just go get that and die happy. But don’t die because you’ll want to come back and eat it again.

Meh… once again I’m confused by the high ratings. I wasn’t impressed by the food and the atmosphere is very hipster. Borderline trying too hard to be different. My clothes aren’t thrifted and my kicks are too fresh so I don’t think I belong. On a serious note though, I think the only decent dish was their breaded chicken with that cucumber yogurt concoction on top(how is this dish Mexican or French?). Everything else was extremely oily, dry, or burnt. We sent back the crepes because they were totally burnt. When I asked the waiter if the crepes are supposed to be prepared like that he said yes. So I asked if we can replace it with something else and he said sure. That was nice of them so hence my three stars. We replaced it with the shrimp and avocado fried rice which was so bland and oily. Again how is fried rice Mexican or French? The hash brown and egg tasted nothing like a chilaquile so why are they calling it that? I’m also tired of restaurants thinking that every dish needs to have an egg on top for it to be innovative or tasty. In this case the egg did nothing for the hash brown. I can’t believe this is their so called signature dish because it was horrible. We waited a good 30 mins on a Sunday before we got seated at a communal table. It was a little awkward because literally you’re eating with people that you don’t know, and whatever you’re talking about during this meal is definitely going to be shared with the folks next to you. You can’t help but to look at the food they ordered and vice versa. And then you have 20 people outside waiting to be seated so you feel rushed to eat and get out. I hate that, especially on a Sunday where I just want to relax. Pass!

Located in an unassuming strip mall adjacent to a Baskin Robbin Ice Cream shop is a Hipster’s hidden den… Trois Familia, where one can find the French Mexican food creations by none other than the Chef Bros… Ludo Lefebvre, Jon Shook, and Vinny Donatolo. Trois Familia is truly a Hipster version of a Taqueria(Taco Stand) with food fused with an odd pairing that meshes so well together i.e. French Mexican food aka Mexican food fused with French food. The cuisine and the ambiance reminds me of Ludo’s pop-up days when his dishes were experimental, because he wanted to expand his cooking. I think had been to 9 or 10 Ludo Bites popup dinners in the past so I am very aware of how Chef Ludo can transform ethnic dishes with a French twist. Anyway I had a hunch that the food at Trois Familia would be extraordinary and it was at a high magnitude. Seriously… The French-Mexican food at Trois Familia is crazy good! As mentioned, Trois Familia is in a mini-mall that isn’t exactly pretty on the outside… It’s ugly. The place sticks out like a sore thumb, because of the bold neon lights that flash«French Mexican Food.» It made me laugh out loud. It’s like a shiny beacon of light to lure you inside to eat… Think Alice In Wonderland’s…Eat Me… Drink Me. You know what I’m talking about. On a weekday, I arrived to eat by myself, because that’s what I do for lunch sometimes. It was strange that I had to put my name on the sign-in sheet, but that how it rolls when there are no reservations taken. Lucky for me, as a solo diner, I didn’t have to wait long to be seated. Inside Trois Familia are white picnic tables that are for communal dining. It’s not the place to bring strollers or babies or tiny kids. Generally, the restaurant dining area is set up like, lack of a better example, a Taco Bell and you don’t have a choice but to sit with people you don’t know and it gets a little cramped almost elbow to elbow. There is no private table or a bar area to eat alone either, but who cares when you’re a solo diner. I found the arrangement nice to strike up a conversation with strangers and to unsuspectingly watch people’s reactions when they eat the French Mexican food for the first time. It’s no coincidence that I had the best service and the Servers were calling me by my first name. They could probably tell that I would love the food. Anyway, I ordered the Double Dekker Potato Tacos. Now you’re going to laugh, but it looks like one of those Taco Bell Gordita Crunch Tacos. It was so funny how appearances can fool you. At Trois Familia, Double Dekker Potato Taco is its gourmet cousin on the French Mexican side of the family. The shell has delicate crisp and then you have a mouthful of the best damn buttery mashed potatoes inside and you’re silently thinking, «Are you f-ing kidding me??? These are THE best tacos in the universe.» The Beet Tartare Tostada was also magnificent. The flavors were balanced all around. The cornichon added that level of tangy it needed and the naturally sweet red beets were an excellent substitution for beef. You eat this and you forget that you’re eating vegetables. Everything about the restaurant, the food, the staff, and customers is ecelctic, which is what I find fascinating. It’s just my style.

I’d like to start by saying that we REALLYREALLY wanted to like this place, however, we ended up driving home discussing the disappointments. The good: the service is very friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere and décor is warm and fits in perfectly with the Silver Lake area. The menu is creative, and ambitious, but this is where the trouble begins. The bad: When it comes to breakfast, over ambitious can be a definite drawback. We had the Hash brown Chilaquiles, which were very tasty, the Galette Crêpe, and the Churro french toast. The crêpe was okay, not bad, but not great. The Churro french toast was the best part of the meal, but again, nothing out of this world. So why is any of this in the«bad» part of the review? One simple reason, the exuberant prices, and the Appetizer sized entrées. Considering the«family» style, shared, concept, the portions are barely enough for 1, let alone 2. I have never posted a photo of a receipt, but on this instance I felt it necessary, and the coup de grace is automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill… really??? For breakfast?? Seriously? All this begs the question, do they realize what neighborhood they’re in? Even better, who they are competing with just next door, not going to name any places… I think these guys have some great ideas, and I’d really like to see them do well, but some adjustments are definitely necessary if they’re going to win over the locals.

Wow the food is delicious! I’ve been here three times now and always try something new. I’ve loved everything so far. The potato tacos are so gooood, you get 2 and they are heavy so it’s best to share that order. Come early and sign your name, the wait is usually 30 – 45 min for breakfast/brunch on a weekend. They come out and offer to take coffee orders while you wait. And add 10 – 15 mins to look for parking. It ain’t fun but totally worth it once you eat their food.

AVOID!!! This is the epitome of hipster hell. Dirty Kitchy Uncomfortable Overpriced Service is friendly, but that’s about the only positive thing I can say about this place. I was looking forward to a fantastic meal and was HIGHLY disappointed. Don’t buy into the hype, like I did. SAVEYOURSELVES!!! I’m convinced they sat down and thought: how can we make dining the most unpleasant experience possible, and ride on our culinary fame coat-tails and make a $$$ killing? 1. Uncomfortable seating. It’s bench-seating, 6 to a communal table. Super cramped, and, if you’re sitting next to someone who is sick, like I did, makes for a very uncomfortable meal. 2. Serve-ware — it’s RUSTY tin plates and cups, with utensils in a communal stainless steel crock. Talk about flashback to childhood camping … but it’s not a good flashback 3. Food — ridiculously — no — LAUGHABLY tiny portions. I paid $ 16.50 for a small bowl of grits and mushrooms with a poached egg on top. And, to add insult to injury, the soft poach I requested resulted in a solidified yolk. Also ordered was the chilaquiles. Think a 3 inch x 3 inch square of crispy hash browns with an egg on top. Then, because the other two dishes were eaten in a handful of bites, we also ordered the Galette Crêpe. This was the most offensive, as it was a burnt mess filled with solidified cheese with barely any taste of anything else… HOT. MESS!!! We ended up paying over $ 60 for a horrible brunch in an uncomfortable setting with disgusting and unpleasant serve-ware. This is just a joke of an establishment. Save your time and hard earned money, and go elsewhere! Oh — and don’t EVEN get me started on their nasty, dirty restroom. Though, can’t say I’m surprised.

A quirky addition to a rapidly changing block(Aesop being sold across the street from a 99 cent store??), Trois Familia is the latest jewel in the crown of LA super-chefs Ludo, Shook, and Dotolo. The vibe is Silverlake cool, with communal picnic tables and what can only be described as camping-gear-chic tablewear. The food is both viscerally satisfying yet also unfamiliar, a strange tension between comfort food and avant-garde. I think the highlights are the hashbrown chilaquiles and the double decker tacos… prime examples of Mexican food through a lens of American excess. A brunch-only place, it thankfully lacks the seriousness of their other establishments in both its feel and its menu, which fits just right in its Silverlake home… at least for now.

Really interesting flavors! I recommend sharing a bunch of plates because some plates are richer than others, so a couple bites is good enough for each plate. I must comment that their dishware is quite questionable and unappetizing. They really should update this. One of my friends got a cup of coffee and the cup it came in was super crappy and chipped… weird. For food, the French toast is the best item(we ordered two of these lol). We also ordered the grits, the beet tostada, and the croissant/egg sandwich. –I liked the flavors(not so much for the grits) but def felt like the food was super rich, especially the items with the egg yolk(the grits and the croissant sandwich). –I don’t really like egg yolk so I wasn’t a fan of that in some of the items; the croissant sandwich was good but overly garlic-y. –The French toast was delicious but a few bites and you’re good… I liked the beet tostada… wish it wasn’t cold but the flavors were yummy. The place is pricier as well but I’m guessing it’s because of the chef. Overall, check it out. I don’t know how the meat is, but maybe meat-lovers will appreciate this place more?

Trois Familia is great! I rarely get to this side of town and it was completely worth it. I love the simple but cool décor. My friend had his birthday party here for a private event and it was a good time. The food is VERY good. This is not your traditional Mexican restaurant. This has some flare to it: Mexican and French. The steak and the fried chicken really did it for me. I strongly suggest coming here to eat. You will not be let down. There is a parking lot in the mini mall where the restaurant is.

I’ve been hearing so many wonderful things about this hidden gem in Silverlake. My husband and I went on a Sunday at around 1pm the wait was not too bad approximately 40 mins and they have comfortable benches outside that people are hanging out while waiting. There also is free valet. We got seated on their communal picnic tables. We started off with the beet tartare which was delicious, the texture from the tostada mixed with the beets made it very appetizing because sometimes with just beets it becomes a bit too much mushy texture. We also got the hash brown chillaquiles which was sour and had a bit of heat too. I loved it. My favorite dish was the grits with a poached egg. The layers of flavor from the mushrooms to the delicious gooiness of the grits was perfection. I’m gonna need to come back to try their desserts and other dishes on the menu! Will be driving to Silverlake a lot more often now!

My god, only simple breakfast fare can be lifted and reinvented by the work of chefs like Ludo, Jon and Vinny. I came here at 9:40 on a Saturday, and there were already about 3 people outside. As time got closer, believe it or not, there were 20 people waiting right before the doors opened. Get your name on the list ASAP when you get there! The portion sizing is perfect, and it allowed me to try two items on the menu for myself: Beet tostada and Anson-mills grits. I’m going to be completely honest about how I was blown away by the combination of flavors! French-Mexican? Never would have imagined. The beet tostada was unlike anything I’ve ever had. Tangy, tasty, creamy, complemented by the crunchy tostada. While looking fairly simple, there are so many layers of flavors going on, it is a delicious, beautiful dish! Anson-mills grits on the menu looked unassuming, but as soon as it arrived, I had a very beautiful plate of buttery mole grits, garnished with pepino, plenty of scallions and mushrooms. I just knew that this was going to be a great dish. The flavor profile took me by surprise, quite unlike anything I’ve had before! The meatyness of the mushrooms was great to complement the rich, buttery grits. That’s just about how I can describe every dish at Trois Familia. From the menu, they sound very unassuming, «eggs» «grits» «tostada» — but I guess that’s what gets you the pleasant surprised. There is so much flavor going on, the little added garnishes, spices, ingredients that you least expect and the combination of flavors work so well with each other. I can say that this is one of the best meals that I’ve had taking my time to really taste the flavors and to try and distinguish them.

Pretty good solid«French Mexican Food» The beet tostada was well balanced, although it slightly tasted like lime Fruit Loops. The hash chilaquiles was ok, i thought. My favorite was the potato tacos, surprisingly. The crispy shell and the soft shell worked well with the potatoes and the pickled carrots gave a good amount of acidity to the dish. The churro French Toast tasted like French toast but extra cinnamon on it. We had it as dessert since it comes with a scoop of Salt & Straw ice cream on top. The horchata was pretty gritty so I wasn’t a fan. They told us the wait would be 25m but ended up being close to 45m.

Innovative flavors which we enjoyed tapas/family style among a group of 4. Five dishes were sufficient and the bill came out to $ 17/person after tax/tip. Not bad unless you’re super hungry. Churro french toast(9.75) — Delicious and tastes like how it sounds. Nothing is over powering and the sweetness is perfect. Hash brown Chilaquiles(9.75) — MMM. not sure if I would call this chilaquiles, but it was a fun dish that everyone loves for its great texture Chicken Milanesa(11.95) — Yum! A bit pricey, but the flavors were perfect with the maggi ranch which reminded me and my friends of our south east Asian childhood Nachos(9.25) — The chips on the bottom of the plate also got the cheese sauce! Wish it came with more chips since there was so much cheese left over. Great dish, but not essential. Grits(12.25) — The chorizo oil /spices add a nice kick to this dish. But nothing else is too special. Needs a meat without extra charge. Great place for two people who want to venture out beyond diner breakfast. Don’t come hungry, instead come excited to savor something slightly different. Kenny served us and he was super friendly and smiley.

This is a fresh take on my favorite meal of the day: BRUNCH. A friend found this place via some online digging and we hit gold. Yums. This place is located amongst a small strip of shops strung along busy Sunset Blvd. By the time the doors opened on Christmas Eve, a line was piling up outside. We quickly wrote our names down but were immediately waved in by the staff inside(the perks of having a smaller party). The first things that caught my eye were the white walls, cute shelves lined with cacti, and wooden benches. Add on the enamelware dishes, and the camp-like atmosphere was near-complete. The food: — House coffee ~$ 5: expensive and sadly, bitter. This was the only downside to the meal. — The chicken milanese: absolutely delicious. The fresh cucumbers and radishes overlying perfectly fried and seasoned chicken that paired superbly well with the light but flavorful crème fraîche. Yummmm. Overall, about ~$ 20 including tip. For my next visit, I’m planning to skip the coffee and go straight for the horchata. Of note: valet and street parking only.

5⁄5 for the retro décor and cool vibes here at Trois Familia but the food was mediocre. I’ve been eyeing the churro french toast on Instagram and finally made it out here one sleepy Sunday morning with a girlfriend to try it. We came before opening and there was already a line 30 people deep so I def recommend coming early! The menu had extensive brunch offerings but we decided to share the Churro French Toast and the Hash Brown Chilaquiles. The Chilaquiles was pretty on point, consisting of an egg on top of a block of crispy potatoes bathing in an acidic orange sauce that had a slight kick to it. The sparse amount of cotija cheese on top felt more like a garnish than a part of the dish(boo). I was so excited for the Churro French Toast, but it was such a let down. It was beautiful, but alas just a façade. The toast was dry instead of custardy and the cinnamon flavor just reminded me of the cheap Eggo French toast sticks that plagued my childhood breakfasts. The scoop of Salt & Straw ice cream was nice, but ice cream never disappoints. This dish did not do the name any justice as well — the only resemblance it had to a churro was the dusting of cinnamon sugar on top. I wish they were able to do something with the texture of the toast or form! Although the churro french toast was a letdown and I paid $ 10 for a piece of potato(although it was a good potato), I will be back for the chill vibes and to try some of their other items. A great place to take your vegetarian friends and a nice addition to Silver Lake!

Got to Trois Familia on Saturday at 9:50 and there was already a line. I was number 28 out of the first 30 to get in and was ecstatic that I got to go in first, as the line seems to be never ending. I’ve been to Trois Mec and I wasn’t impressed, but the sound of a french mexican fusion brunch was too tempting to resist. I’m so glad I’m a follower, because the food was stupendous. Now if you are like me and you’re looking at these photos you might think«damn this food looks like a hot mess». Don’t let those looks deceive you, this is some down home good grub. The duck confit was crispy but juicy, the acid brought out the gamey depth of the duck and the dish was devoured in mere moments. The churro french toast is like eating dessert for bfast. I don’t have the biggest sweet tooth, but I could appreciate the nuances of the dish. Not too sweet and fluffy, I found myself eating more of it than I would have ever imagined. The hash chillaquiles was definitely a surprise for me. Recommended by the server, I decided to try it based on pure trust. I’m so glad it worked out as I normally would have thought this sounded plain and boring. The harsh though was super crispy, the sauce bright and acidic, the egg rich and runny. Combined, this dish was an automatic home run. All in all I’m quite pleased with Trois Familia and would not be hesitant to recommend it to any person looking for some fun flavorful food to cure those nasty hangovers.

I’ve got nothing but good things to say about T.F. Excellent service from a man-bunned hipster? Check! Unpretentious, breezy SoCal décor replete with on-display vinyl collection, succulent wall shelf, communal picnic tables and casually leaning surfboards? Check! Seemingly inaccessible menu because everything sounds slightly weird but then you go for it and it’s amazing and beyond anything you could ever imagined? Check! Ding! Ding ding ding! Came in on a Thursday early afternoon to avoid waiting. Killed it – put our names down on the clipboard and were called in immediately. Tried the poached omelette sandwich and the double decker potato tacos. Tacos came first(as they serve a la minute), and fairly quickly I might add. Well, shucks, I can’t really say anything more than I LOVETHESETACOS. Jack cheese melted between a(homemade) hard and soft shell tortilla, then filled with creamy puréed potato with crème fraîche and lime, then topped off with a spicy pickled carrot pico de gallo. One order is about 9.75 or so for two, and DAMN it’s worth it. It’s like a Taco Bell went to night school at Le Cordon Bleu. Poached omelette sandwich took a bit longer, and was it worth it! Imagine a fluffy egg patty seasoned with truffle salt(a great way to impart that flavor without going nuts), melted American cheese on French ham(cheeky!) with kind of a caramelized onion GRAVY if you will. The sides of this baby are overflowing with soft and creamy onionyness and melted cheese, thickly sliced ham and the lightly toasted brioche sits on top like a crown. They serve it with a steak knife sticking out of the top. I cut it in half, trying to make it a bit more manageable. Doesn’t work. Let’s just say that you will need about 9 to 12 napkins for this sandwich. (18% service fee included. Some people aren’t into that, but I am! Makes it simple)

We had a really fabulous lunch here; the dishes were bursting with flavor! Chilaquiles with crispy hash brown were so savory and absolutely perfect. We relished the runny egg yolk mixed with the crunch of potatoes. Flawless! And the 2 tacos with perfect mashed potatoes and pico de gallo carrots on top, enclosed in a crispy shell and then another soft shell? Ahhh, I want them again already and can’t wait to go back to try more dishes. Welcome to the neighborhood! Price was reasonable; three dishes for two people was the right amount of food if you want to leave very full. Most of the dishes are larger though and you’ll be fine just getting one item(only chilaquiles seemed on the small side). Tip is included in your check. The wait wasn’t bad at 1 pm; about 10 minutes or less. If you are grumpy about a short wait for amazing food then just go somewhere else! *update: Loved the poached omelet sandwich during our second visit here! It was very rich with the caramelized onions bechamel sauce so it was a little hard for me to finish. Somehow I managed though. softest omelet ever. I also had a bite of the bean burrito– their sauce is insane. Churro french toast was amazing too with horchata ice cream on top, you really can’t go wrong at TF. On a Friday at 2 pm we waited about 15 minutes. The place was a lot quieter so late in the afternoon. many of the tables were not full. I also came on a Saturday morning 15 minutes before they opened and was the last group to get into their first seating– it’s all about timing! A baby friendly place too. :)
