Very slow service. Carnitas tasted weird and were drenched in lard(probably refried from yesterday) to try and compensate for their flavorless state. Al pastor tasted wack and like another meat entirely. The horchata had a funky, vomit-like smell. The worst part is that I ordered to eat my tacos there and, after they took forever to make three tacos they gave them to me in a to-go bag. When I reminded the cashier I had ordered them«for here,» he told me «ya nos vamos» «we’re already leaving.» I was really hungry and looking forward to sitting at a table and having my food. Instead, I had to wait till I got home. Customer service and good communication go a long way. I don’t think I’ll ever be back.

Just like I was saying in the picture I posted. Very delicious and authentic home cooked soup. I had the chicken soup and it was very home style. The broth was full of flavor and you could tell that they cooked the chicken in the broth, not just added it later. The vegetables were just the right amount of crisp and not soggy. My fiancée had the carne asada burrito and was very pleased :)

Bottom of the barrel. I ordered a cheeseburger, just a cheeseburger. «Cheeseburger solo» in Spanish, so of course he asked me if I wanted papas/potatoes with it. Solo el Cheeseburger por favor. Of course he asked if I wanted something to drink with it. Solo el Cheeseburger por favor, only the cheeseburger please. Three times I ordered only a cheeseburger, but he didn’t seem to understand. The picture of the cheeseburger in the menu looked pretty good, mine looked nothing like it, just slopped together, the slice of cheese not even remotely melted. My friend ordered a Torta Asada, a Mexican beef sandwich. It came with rotten avocado slices on it. The restaurant was clean, the walls, floors and tables were all very clean. The décor was hideous, old faded dusty artificial flowers everywhere you looked. It was 6:30PM which should be the peak of the dinner rush, and we were the only customers in the restaurant.

Me and my friend were going to a cemitas hunt and stumbled upon this place. We didn’t realize how close it was and decided to give it a try. We didn’t regret it at all, we both got the cemitas poblana de milanesa and didn’t regret it. It was so good and filling. The chips and salsa they serve were excellent also, not too salty and spicy. I think this is a mom and pop place and the people here are very welcoming. This became my stop for cemitas and I just took two more of my friends here. They all enjoyed it and it also a plus for you and the people who work there to speak Spanish. Highly recommend you stop by there for cemitas.

As far as taco joints go this is one of the best I’ve ever been to. They are very nice and welcoming. The food is delicioso! They gave free chips with our food and served us like we were honored guests. I’d highly recommend coming to eat Tono’s!

What a great little find. I had carnitas soft tacos which had not an ounce of bouncy fat on the meat. My boyfriend had taquitos which come in an order of 5. Sweet little man who ran the show there. While sitting there, I noticed many regular locals coming in to get their favorites. Everything was fresh, made to order. I’d definitely go back.

I’ve been coming to this taco place for about 7 – 8 years so the food must be good(i usually get tacos with avocado or the beef soup) The only thing about this place is communicating. If you dont know spanish, the guy behind the counter can be a bit rude.

I’ve driven by this place many times but guess I’ve never been hungry enough to make me stop and check it out until… I read a 5-Star review from«Tim M» about right now you’re saying I don’t see any review from Tim M, yeah Unilocal strikes again!, it looks like a well written review to me and although we don’t see eye to eye on the tacos or how HOT the salsa is?, it’s just an opinion and his should count too!, So Unilocal real people REAL reviews!, get filtered and removed! So I was excited to try the Birria de Chivo(Goat for you gabachos) and a variety of their tacos, they really have a good selection of various meats. Birria de Chivo(Goat) — First off they are very tight with the condiments, limones, cilantro y cebolla-(onion) and when I asked for more of each and where’s the tapatio… oh I see you have the bottles under lock and key!, I got the look like you really want more?. Ummm Yeah! The caldo /broth looks good NO fat and that’s a plus as some places can be lazy and not strain off the fat, but the caldo was pretty plain can’t taste much spices, the carne de chivo con hueso(goat meat with bone) I thought the meat was a little undercooked as you can see by the photo and a «little» tough though not too many bones, not a fan of this birria and I’d say OK at best! 3-Stars Tacos, Tacos, Tacos, Tacos, Tacos, yeah that means I had FIVE… call me a PIG! Carne Asada, Lengua y Al Pastor Carnitas y Buche-(Dorado) Carne Asada — As you can see by the almost grey color they must cook the meat in large amounts on a flat top because the meat seems more steamed and definitely not«asar» grilled, so not much in flavor, tortillas were ok nothing special, I’d say the best part of this taco was the salsa, very good though not as hot as Tim M made it out to be. 3-Stars Lengua — I liked that fact they used salsa verde on the lengua and it’s a good salsa, the lengua(tongue) was tender but another that was lacking in flavor. 3-Stars Al Pastor — Finally some flavor though definitely not the best pastor in town it’s pretty good. 4-Stars Carnitas — Moist nice flavor definitely the best of the five tacos I had. 4-Stars Buche —(Dorado) — Now I asked for the buche to be «Bien Dorado — frito, frito — That means to cook it until it’s CRISPY, I was served buche that looked like a limp noodle… I told them I asked for«Bien Dorado Frito» and they said yeah that’s bien dorado!, yeah I don’t think so!, so I kindly asked them to make it correct and although I’d prefer it to be more crispy after the second attempt it was still pretty good. 4-Stars though(minus .5-star) since you didn’t make it right the first time. 3.5-Stars I’d say tacos are average to above average but nothing that Wowed me to say 5-Stars… Best thing here was the salsa! Average — 3.5-Stars

October 5th. #5 Tono’s Tacos, I don’t have any idea where to start, only to say it’s fabulous. This may be the second coming of tacos in East Los Angeles, don’t walk, don’t run, just get in your car or if you need to take a bus, this is the place hands down. The great thing about Los Angeles is there is a taco shop on almost every corner, just like a liquor store, so you never have to go far, for some food and a buzz. With taco shops you may have 2 or 3 lucky southern california, in the we have 2 in the same center. I’ve been to the other one Los Lagos Mariscos, quick tip,(don’t waste your money, the food sucks, I tossed half of it away) The cool part about this place is it’s a one man show, cook, clerk, server and head bottle washer, all being done while you wait for your food, it’s like poetry in motion. To The Tacos. 4 tacos, 2 Carne Asadas, 1 Chicken, 1 Carnitas. All the tacos came with onions, cilantro and a red hot sauce from hell. Asada Tacos, the meat was very flavorful, cooked nice and tender with 2 mini corn tortillas with the onions, cilantro and the red sauce, Chicken Taco, was the same. Carnitas Taco, also the same. Now the killer part of all this. The cooked asked if I wanted hot sauce, yes I love the stuff. Not thinking correctly a put some on 2 of the tacos before I tasted it. The red sauce was so hot and tasty that I didn’t need any more for the two other tacos. My mouth was on fire, a very good heart warming blood boiling heat of joy. I did take my time at some points to stop and enjoy the burning in my mouth, I knew it was all OK, I had just had a echocardiogram at USC and everything was great, so the blood boiling and heart beating a little fast was no big deal. Take another bite, you have 2 more tacos to go. This is by far the best tacos I’ve had in LA. To all my Unilocaler friends that pass by this area, this is the place to try. No-If-And-Or-Buts. Stop eat and enjoy. 4 tacos and can soda. $ 6.00 tip $ 1.00 You can only do 5 stars this is 5+5.

One of the great middle of the night, authentic taco joints. I can’t comment on the whole menu, but I did savor three carne asada tacos about a 1:30AM with gusto on a Saturday night!
