Drive too quickly and you will miss this curious little shop. It’s filled with witty products from distant history as well as much-loved products from the future(«405 million units sold since 2015!»). There is a large classroom-like space in the back filled with children getting their creative flow on. The non-profit is admirable for its aim. Come to support LA’s children, the future of the arts. You can also find a birthday/Christmas gift for that hipster friend who is above regular mass-produced merchandise from Target.

I love 826 National stores, and this Time Travel Mart is no exception. Not only is this a great front for a nonprofit writing center for kids, it is such a wealth of quirky, fun products that are clever and imaginative. I adore this store and the products they sell. They even publish the writing that students produce and sell it in the store. Brilliant.

After attending a workshop, we purchased a dinosaur egg yesterday. Here’s my daughter’s review: «The Egg: We bought a dinosaur egg. The instructions said to put the egg in water. It also said to leave the egg in the water for 48 to 72 hours. So we left the egg in the water. Then, we got up the next morning and the egg had hatched. We were so proud. I love my dinosaur.»

This is the place to go for all your time travelling needs. Not to mention, the only place, other than the Echo Park branch, where you can get tons of rare McSweeney’s publications. But the best part by far is that all the sales of merch support the free programs for students. Check out the new PoemBooth where you can sit and listen to poems and leave your own recording.

The most adorable, curious little shop. Browse around for fun time-travel-related(and some non-time-travel-related) knickknacks, and buy some booklets written by students. The proceeds go towards 826LA’s after-school tutoring program and writing workshops, so you’re supporting a good cause, and getting some really neat stuff. My favorite thing they sell is called«Shade» — it’s actually a walnut, which you can plant, then travel in time to the future, when it will actually become a tree, which produces shade. SOCLEVER. Check them out, support the students, and if you’re so inclined, ask about their volunteer opportunities so you can get even more involved with this INCREDIBLE organization.

Mar Vista Time Travel Mart! If you are traveling through time(or just down Venice Blvd), the Time Travel Mart stocks caveman candy, robot parts, and Lucky Peach. Even if you’re stuck in this epoch, there are still items for sale that you’ll actually use. I scored a little glass bottle of the Gold Rush perfume by Yosh(just $ 25!!!), and bought a horseshoe and a poster(«Fire Bad But Also Good») for a unique housewarming gift. Would be a great place to shop for my nieces, too. Mar Vista is a neighborhood in need of some love, and the Time Travel Mart and the good people at 826LA are bringing it in droves.

Swung by just to check it out since I’m such a fan of the Echo Park Time Travel Mart. The Mar Vista location has more of a boutique look to it, as opposed to the 7-Eleven/Quick Stop convenience store set-up I’ve come to love at Echo Park. While the original Time Travel Mart has multiple aisles of shelves in the center of the room with all of the products neatly arranged on them, Mar Vista has shelves along the wall, but has more items stacked around the room on tables and crates. Frankly, it’s comparable in appearance to 826 Valencia in San Francisco what with there being more 826 merch and books along the shelves as well as random ropes hanging from the ceiling. They still have some of the old favorites you see at Echo Park — like the Mammoth Chunks, Viking Odorant, bottles of Dead Languages, Barbarian Repellent, etc — but these are more in the minority compared with the other things mentioned. Of course, this is all just commentary for the storefront. 826, overall, is great organization for kids and the world is so much the better for their existence.
