My new favorite place to get lunch. I always get the combo of half salad(chicken caesar) + half sandwich(turkey), and on colder days I’ve tried the different soups of the day, and everything has always been delicious. The desserts here are also simply to die for. I usually don’t feel like eating sweets for lunch, but I just cannot resist getting a cupcake, or trying a new bar or cookie whenever I come. The desserts are never the same day to day, so it’s tempting to try EVERYTHING. My poor waistline. There’s street parking, but when it gets busy during lunch hour I sometimes park far away and walk. It’s not a good place for groups, as there’s not much room for dining in, so getting your order to go is best.

Everyone here is very nice. Seats are limited but a lot of people stop by and take the food togo. Love their program and how they help homeless women. I’d come back.

I came here yesterday for the fourth time. My mom and I venture together when we eat, so I told her about this place.(I wanted to know how she felt about eating at a charity restaurant so I told her about how it services homeless women and children.) The first time we came, we ordered a full chicken sandwich and a full salad each.(My mom wanted her sandwich on sourdough with Greek salad. I chose a baguette for my sandwich with Caesar salad.) We loved the taste but this was PLENTY of food, so much that we needed doggie bags.(We both have sizable appetites.) The next three occasions, we have ordered either half soup/half salad or half salad/half sandwich. Everything is incredibly fresh so they may run out of items towards the end of the day. Next time I go, I may try one of their red velvet cakes. Everything else has been scrumptious.

Great cheeseburger for $ 4! How can you go wrong with that? Plus, the fact that they’re helping out women in the community is added reason for you to come try this place out. The desserts looked delicious, but I stuck with a burger for lunch. I’ll certainly be trying them out in the future. The place is tiny, so its certainly not a place to come with a group. You’ll have to come when its not busy to secure a table.

The reviews are absolutely correct on this place. It’s s hidden gem — full of welcome staff and quality food. I got the black and blue burger, which was absolutely delicious and my girl friend got the roast beef sandwich — and she loved it. We also both got the zuccini and yellow squash soup — also well exceeded expectations. We didn’t try and of the desserts but they looked very good. We will be back and so should you

I’ve been here twice on my route for work. The first time was good(got a cheeseburger) but today was excellent. The roast beef is probably the best I’ve had in a long time. They have a half sandwich/soup or salad combo about $ 8. The roast beef is something I would totally come back for. Taste buds: happy!

Simple, tasty food and the right sized portion and price for lunch. I don’t like feeling stuffed with hours left to go at the office. Small dining area, only 2 tables, so plan to miss the lunch crowd or take out. I’ll be back.

Veggie wet burrito was tasty!(Special of the day) Red rice, roasted corn, yellow squash, zucchini, and black beans on the inside and the sauce was a roasted poblano green chile.

Great customer service, great pricing and even better food! Ordered the turkey sandwich and it was stuffed full of fresh, delicious veggies and meat! The soup of the day was potato & zucchini, also great! I just moved into the neighborhood and can’t wait to be back.

Hot pastrami… End of review! The baked goods are great also. Hope to try a German cupcake next time I come through. The red velvet cupcakes and lemon bars were great. The salad that came with the sandwich could have used salt pepper or something it was a little bland. But the hot pastrami…

Amazing! First time at The Village Kitchen and all I can think of is… AMAZING! I ordered the lunch combination with half hot pastrami sandwich and half Cesar salad. The hot pastrami was delicious! Comes with pastrami, cole slaw, mustard and cheese. I liked that they give you enough dressing for the salad too. I also ordered a German chocolate cupcake. Also delicious! The chocolate cupcake wasn’t super moist but the topping made up for it. Aside from that. The staff were super friendly. To some, the downside would probably be the wait time for food to be ready buying thought it was well worth it. You can call ahead to order too. Will definitely be back soon

Service and food are great, but it’s what this place is doing that ensures they’ll get my lunchtime business every time I forget or am unable to bring food to work from home. People are always friendly I’ve only had the cheeseburger and pastrami melt so far. Both great

First off, the restaurant provides homeless women an opportunity to take ownership of their lives, and donates proceeds to organizations that supports women and children. I wanted to point that out because they are doing this for a good cause. It is a nice small eatery that’s located on the ground floor of a nice-ish apartment building. Their menu is easily chalked on the wall board. The $ 4 cheese burger my friend ordered was definitely the winner of the day! It is big and juicy, tender and fresh, and where else could you find a decent burger in LA for four big ones? Since it was a Wednesday, the soup du jour was zucchini pumpkin, it was rich and creamy. Their sandwiches are about $ 7 – 8, and with decent size with fresh ingredient. Their dessert display is where the real eye candy is. The red velvet, the chocolate cake, the cheese cake, the strawberry shortcake, Oh my oh my, it was very difficult to not pick up a slice! I will have to come back to try a slice!

I liked this spot. I ordered the pastrami and it was very good. The price you pay for it is much less than a lot of the other pastrami places around town, and you get a smaller portion to match. The meat was tasty, the sandwich was filling and it goes to a great cause. Parking and seating isn’t good but that’s ok.

Great place to pick up a sandwich, salad or soup. They also make espresso drinks which looked great. I went with co workers and we each tried a different sandwich: turkey, pastrami and salami. And we ate every bite of them. My turkey sandwich had lots of turkey on a fresh baguette with veggies. I’d go back any day!

I love this place so much! I eat here whenever I can. The grilled chicken sandwich is a fave and the specials are amazing-I’ve never tried something that I didn’t like! Oh! And the soups! They make their soups from scratch and they’re SOOOOOO good. The cream of mushroom soup is AMAZING. But let’s talk about the real reason I’m writing this review… the baked goods. Lemon bars, cheesecakes, berry tarts, AMAZING pecan pie… you name it, they have it, and it will be delicious. Order a cake or pie for your next event. You will not regret it. Finally, let’s talk about the girls that work there. They are always super helpful/knowledgeable and sweet and they’re damn good chefs/bakers. I love supporting places that have a solid mission and a great product. Village Kitchen definitely fits the bill!

To the reviewer who asked that patrons not use coupons since all Village Kitchen’s earnings go to a great cause, well I must disagree, as it’s the coupon that starts the relationship sometimes. I’m surely not the only will who will return again and again after learning of the place through ScoutMob. It’s only .8 miles from my home, and now I’ve got a great neighborhood café to patronize! So, I received a happy greeting upon entering. It’s a bright, cheerful space. Menu’s clearly written on chalkboard on the wall. Room to get up close and personal with the pastries. And get this, the credit card machine had a little trouble while I was there and I was short $ 1.36 cash. But chef gladly took what I had with a «No problem». I got the half pastrami and half cobb salad. And the best mixed berry pie which is dripping down my chin as I write! Flaky crust, tons of berries, dense, yes! Did I say how warm and rich the sandwich was? And the salad – a simple, fresh, good salad! I’m going back real quick and I’m taking a friend. And I’ll repay the $ 1.36. And I’m packing up some things to donate to the actual shelter. Good food, clean space, gracious staff, quality, without gimmicks, and a good cause, so yeah, 5 stars!

This place is as good as it gets! It’s a little hidden, and you would never expect this place to serve food, but they do. I ordered the Hot Pastrami Sandwich, as well as the Cobb Salad combo, all for $ 8 bucks. But since I had a 50% off coupon, I got this all for a little over $ 4. Well worth it because portions were huge, and food was really really good. What’s great about this place is that everyone was so nice, and also all proceeds go towards helping Homeless Women & Children. So basically, I am eating for a good cause! Kills two birds with one stone! I will definitely come back just to support the cause, but you know, having awesome tasting food while at it is definitely a plus! Tip: Download the App Scoutmob to get the coupon!

This is such a cute little place to grab a quick bite and all proceeds go to a great cause. Can’t get better than that! Reasons why you should go: — Friendly service — Good Food and cooked very well my eggs were fluffy and perfect — lots of pastries baked in house — affordable prices — Good Cause Their pastries looked delicious and the cream puff I had was an actual cream puff it was filled with custard not sweet nasty whipped cream like a lot of places Reasons why I did not give it 5 stars: — I wish they had a few more breakfast options. They only have the option of sandwich or burrito or an omelet.(But their lunch menu looks good.) — The place is quite small which i like but there’s only 2 little tables inside and another 2 outside and some chairs. so if their occupied you’re out of luck. — there’s No public restroom
