This place has now been at a new venue for a bit … So for those reading old reviews about the free wine/beer … Super Serious no longer does that. Show is currently the 3rd Wednesday every month, held at The Virgil bar in the Silverlake/EastHollywood area. During the show there are a few happy hour drink specials for $ 5-$ 6. If you accidentally order the red wine(don’t) save your taste buds by going kalimotxo and asking them to add some coke/Pepsi to make it taste better(don’t say I didn’t warn you). The Irish caravan cocktail is good. And they have a few beers on draft. There’s a taco truck outside. Show is always good(I’ve been going for years and have only not enjoyed 1 — not kidding) plenty of times the show is fantastic. The vibe is always intimate and laid back, lots of audience participation recently. If you come late you won’t get a seat, sometimes it’s way overcrowded and ppl are almost into the other hallway/room — the venue is super small. They downsized from the last venue for some reason…:( Buy presale tix for under $ 8.50 online. $ 10 at the door :) take a date, go alone, meet friends there, whatever’s your steeze — you won’t regret it :)

The show itself deserves 5-stars for the quality of entertainment. The location on the other hand is why I can only give a 3-star rating. To begin with, it is in a «sketchy» part of town and aside from trying to find parking we felt a little unsure about leaving our vehicles parked when we finally did. We were at the door at 6:45PM and the valet attendant came out about 6:55PM to set up the valet parking. It would have been nice if the valet was set up much sooner than that knowing The Virgil opens the doors at 7PM. This is a management issue that has an easy fix. One star LOST. The location is small and we were very lucky to find what we considered to be the best seats since there really is not that much seating – specifically on the side of the bar the actual comedy show is held. I cannot recall where I read there was free beer and wine – a review on Unilocal,or maybe even the website – but I discovered there was not. Of course our group of 7 ordered drinks to «get in the mood.» The girls complained about the wine that tasted like sewer water so they proceeded with mixed drinks instead. One of them actually drank the other 3’s glasses of wine! What a trooper. :) They said the mixed drinks were funky tasting yet pretty weak at the same time. Personally I was pretty happy with 3 draft beers I had… I believe they were Allagash White but I could be wrong. If The Virgil offered better quality wine we could let the seating issue slide and The Virgil could easily get another star, or two, but for this review this was a loss of a star for their second(2nd). Again, the show itself deserves 5-stars and was extremely hilarious. We all had a great time and laughed for about 85% of the time with the exception of two performances but I won’t mention names. Overall, it was a great line-up and everyone in our group agreed. The surprise guest turned out to be Aziz Ansari which was really cool and the girls were extremely excited about that. They are huge fans of his. So at the end of the show the wanted to go take photos with him. I saw him scurry out like a shoplifter out of an adult book store but since he had to wait for the valet to fetch his car, my friend and I managed to «catch» him in front by the valet stand. She was so excited and all she wanted was a photo with him but Aziz’s response was«I’d rather not do any pics.» For a second I thought he was joking, you know being a comedian and all, so I was like, «What?» to which he repeated«I’d rather not do any pics.» My friend’s smile sadly left her face and he added«I’m just not comfortable.» Then his Prius pulled up and off he went. Who does that? My friend was pretty sad that Aziz would not take a photo with her. There weren’t any other patrons around and it would have taken 10 seconds – keep in mind that his car was NOT even ready for him to leave in yet – to take a quick photo with a fan who loves his comedy. He likes to use the phrase«douche-bag» and I cannot think of a better example of how to use this in a sentence than this. I’ve been to many comedy shows and taken several photos with different comedians and this was a disappointing first. When my friend told her sister as she came out just as Aziz walked towards his car she said«He just lost a fan.» Conclusion: attend the Super Serious Show, park AND drink at your own risk, and if Aziz ever shows up to perform again, don’t expect a photo or you might be heartbroken. P. S. I’ll post a few photos for those who doubt the part about Aziz.

The new venue is in a sketch area. I had to pay $ 5 to park in a laundry compound. But besides that. It was awesome! This is better than the Laugh Factory! Free beer and wine. Amazing food truck! The Line-up tonight was great, laughed my butt off to some great Comedy. I am definitely coming back!

I’m not much of a comedy gal, but this show is what’s up. Free wine and beer, access to some awesome food trucks, and a legit comedy show… all for $ 13 if you buy online?($ 20 if you don’t.) Yes, please! The venue is awesome and the crowd is great. Pumped to try to make this a monthly thing. Love!

Just returned to go to the Nov show & loved it, this just keeps getting better! …beware though, this show is definitely catching on, so get there early to claim your seat & load up with the free beers! The set line up absolutely killed, hosted by a great Chris Hardwick(from«the Talking Dead» companion show«to Walking Dead»), with Greg Behrendt(writer, Sex In the City, «He’s Just Not That Into You») who was way more blue than I expected & awesome, Garfunkel & Oates & an excellent Sarah Tiana. …but what pushed this show into nirvana were surprise appearances from Chris Katan & Weird Al Yankovic! Especially Chris Katan, who I may’ve only kinda’ enjoyed on SNL, but he must’ve been in a zone b/c he could’ve read the phonebook & got me going. Thanks for another great night Tripple S!

You would think that in the plethora of comedy shows in L.A., not one would stand out as more special than the rest. Think again. The Super Serious Show was one of the most memorable shows I’ve seen in a long time, and all for a price that anyone could afford. This is a steal of a deal. The show goes down once a month inside Smashbox studios, a hip, modern and spacious performance space in… Culver City? I’m not from L.A., but apparently this is an odd enough location that more than one comedian cracked a joke about it. Smashbox is spacious and the perfect venue for something like this. For $ 10, 200+ folks found a seat in the long room, grabbed some complimentary beer or wine and enjoyed. The fantastic lineup on this night included Chris Hardwick, Chris Kattan, Garfunkel & Oates and, yes, Weird Al Yankovic. We showed up early and scored a second row seat. Fortunately the lineup took it easy when it came to heckling. Added Bonus: The Shrimp Pimp truck outside served up some delicious fish and chips. I hope they are there when I return, which I surely will!

Eat, drink and be entertained… you can’t go wrong. Great venue. Great comedians. Sketch comedy too! Overall a very fun way to spend an evening.. And you don’t have to shell out a ton of cash at these enjoyable, well-run events either. You just have to get to Culver City.

Ever since I stumbled across this venue(via twitter), I have not stopped attending. It is an AMAZING show! I gladly make the drive from Orange County out to LA on the 3rd Thursday of each month. SSS has such a great mix of comedians I do and do not recognize. Oh, as if the 4 – 5 comedians, skits, videos, etc aren’t enough(for the minuscule sum of $ 12– $ 10 plus handling), you get free beer and wine until they run out! There is also a food truck before the show. All of that for only $ 12(which is either two cheap drinks at a bar, or a movie) for 2+ hours on almost nonstop hilarity– how can you NOT attend this show?

TJ Miller is seriously hilarious. He hosted and performed at this month’s Super Serious Show. The vibe is cool what with free Eagle Rock Brewery beers and Cube pouring free wine, comfy couches in the front row of the room, curved walls either for photography or skating. The line up was great too and featured: sketch comics Two Alexes, Garfunkel and Oates, Matt Knudsen, and Amy Schumer.

This is such a great show and the location is very unique being in a studio in Culver City. The tickets are a bargain for the quality of comedy you’re getting. The last time I went to see Ali Wong and Dana Gould and the surprise guest was Sara Silverman. It’s a good mix of stand up, video clips, and sketch comedy. Very cool space, the crowd is mellow and you can’t beat the free beer and wine. We even played some ping pong after the show in the back room. Parking was a little bit difficult but if you get there early you won’t have trouble finding a spot or getting a seat. It’s a great show to see and if you’re sick of doing the standard Laugh Factory and Improv places it’s a fun change in atmosphere. I can’t wait to see this show again!

Some great acts this past Thursday night! Special kudos to Brendon Walsh and Tom Lennon(Reno 911, I Love You Man). I recommend coming early to try out all the free, yes free, beer and wine they have to offer. Just remember to tip! A cheap way to truly enjoy the show. Also, they stamp your hand so you’re free to enter in and out. Smashbox studios was a great, intimate setting but my only issue is that there is only one bathroom! Note: $ 10 presale $ 15 at the door

I’ve only been to one other stand up show, but they are definitely a great and unique way to spend an evening! While Donald and I were there running a Unilocal booth and didn’t pay the entrance fee, they were selling tickets for $ 15 for an awesome show and great craft beers, wine, meat and cheese, and cupcakes! That’s a great deal considering you’d pay between $ 8 – 15 for a drink alone in LA. They also bring a different food truck each show that parks outside should the snacks and booze not fill you up enough. After enjoying an hour of chatting, snacking, and drinking, the show starts and features a variety of different comedians. Each one brought a different flavor, and I laughed out loud during each performance(also laughing on the inside the entire time, haha). While they are all funny, a few of them were also featured on shows like Comedy Central, which is pretty sweet. Overall a really cool and different type of fun to explore in LA.

If you hate good microbrews and have no sense of humor, then don’t go to the Super Serious Show. In fact, perhaps you just shouldn’t be a member of society. But seriously, get off the couch and out of Silver Lake and come down to the Westside once a month to The Super Serious Show. You won’t be disappointed! Oh and don’t forget to stop by the J Squared Bakery table(also at the show) for some tasty sweets.
