A new and growing place with noble ambitions – to document, preserve and display the history and the culture of a mass segment of Los Angeles often overlooked – yet one that has played a key role in everything from art/architecture to entertainment, transportation to agriculture, in the growth of Southern California. The Museum explores this in many ways, on site in its gallery spaces, in its organized walking tours of historic neighborhoods, murals and famous sites and with guest speakers. It is a small space as museums go, but fresh and airy and welcoming, operated largely by volunteers.

Located on the second floor of a small two-story office building, this simple museum has four components that took only 15 minutes to visit: — A room about mid-century modern design with some furniture like the molded Eames chairs. — A small shrine to the Westmore family of makeup artists. — A project to paint horse statues and place them around the Valley. I’ve already seen this in Louisville to honor Kentucky’s horse breeding and racing tradition. Are horses really something the general population associates with the SFV? — A section from a hand-painted mural of singer Michael Jackson. Free parking and free entry.

Very cool museum, lots of very interesting stuff, surprised to learn that ayn rand lived in the valley and her house was in the location that nobel is now. Also liked the exhibits that the snow ministry and they have some new things coming that are very exciting including a Michael Jackson exhibit definitely a great place to go check out!

Very bizarre. I was hoping to learn more about the culture of the Valley, but it seemed like just a bunch of photos of famous people who had some kind of tenuous association with it. The makeup«exhibit» of the Westmore family was tiny and didn’t say much about… well, anything really. The little blurbs that explain what’s what were rife with spelling errors and typos, and didn’t tie things together well. One of the employees there followed us through the whole thing, which made it difficult to feel comfortable. We left after about 15 minutes, which was probably about 10 minutes too long.

A great place to learn about the history & culture of the Valley! So far there are exhibits about the Westmore Family(movie &TV makeup), famous Valley-based photographers George Hurrell & Leigh Wiener, movie stars in the Valley, architecture, veterans & wartime artifacts(including the Norden Bombsight!), and a gallery of local-inspired art. (It’s located on the second floor of a mission-style building.)
