I’ve gone to more expensive salons in the past, but didn’t always get better results. If you want great haircuts at reasonable prices, you won’t be disappointed in The Hive. I also like the fact that Jenny, my stylist, is efficient and never takes more than an hour to wash, cut, and style long hair. Perfect for busy people who can’t spend hours getting their hair done. The only downside to this place is the parking, but I’ve always lucked out and found either free or metered parking on Sunset.

Clay answered the phone with a smile that was inviting and made it easy to make a same day appointment. They were extremely friendly and down to earth and Malina was so patient with me as she was tasked with the job of correcting a home-cut bang courtesy of Mom. I will be back again for future cuts and styling! Malina saved my life and now I don’t have to this evenings party with a bang that looks like it was a consequence of a flowbee.

After my co-worker just came in to the office with a bad haircut this morning, I recommended her to The Hive for a fix and decided to update my review since it’s been almost a few years since my last review. Hopefully she goes to see them. After about 3 or so years seeing Jill at The Hive, she’s still amazing! Jill has maintained her amazing quality of service throughout the years. The same can be said for The Hive’s level of cleanliness and down to earth friendliness. I get a haircut every 10 – 13 weeks which amounts to several cuts a year. With that said, I have never had an issue with The Hive and Jill.

Okay. After doing some research, I chose this place. Decently-ish priced and they were able to fit me in same day. Ash was my hairdresser. Although he meant well I guess, he was dry. Well, definitely dry compared to the hairdresser beside us who was entertaining a very imaginative child. Ash was informative w basic things. To make a long story short, after waiting the 3 days, and then washing, my hair was awkwardly too wavy. When i paid for it to be STRAIGHT w minimal work on my end. I had gotten my bangs cut into a «v» a day prior which prompted the blow out. Since I decided to let Ash trim my split ends, I told him if he needed to make my bangs more pronounced, feel free. I ended up with bowl cut bangs. I went back on Oct 3, my actual birthday, just 1 – 2 days after the initial appt. Jenny trimmed very little, but was so sweet about it. She didn’t make it awkward, even after I cried. A month later, my hair still hasn’t grown back enough to where I’m comfortable wearing my bangs down. Would not recommend coming here. To each their own I suppose.

Called up super last minute and they were able to fit me in(love it when that happens). Amanda was awesome, attentive and answered all of my hair questions. She showed me how to style my hair(which turns out, is super easy). I love my haircut and really glad that I chose The Hive. #winning

Muzzettee is an amazing colorist. I am very particular about my hair and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I have a lot of hair and she took her time with me. Not to mention she’s very fun and pleasant. I found my new hair stylist! If you’re getting your hair done at The Hive I highly recommend her.

Heads Up! This salon holds $ 50.00 on your credit card when you schedule color! If for any reason you need to reschedule your appointment they will stick you with whoever is available or take your $ 50.00. My personal Hive experience resulted in bleach blonde roots and dark blonde ends!(I only ask for«dark blonde» root touch up/grey coverage & a few highlights). I have never Unilocaled before but feel the need to say this! DONOT let anyone at The Hive touch your hair color unless they can show actual proof that they are indeed a COLOR specialist. The receptionist assured me the guy was a color specialist but seriously! My 5 year old niece would have done a better job! If you are going to spend a lot of money… go to a real salon! If you desire clown hair… The Hive may be your place!

The Hive is a hip place with a lot of style and focus on making the customer feel special. So when our hair cuts seemed to lack an imagination we felt a bit disappointed. It was the day of our engagement photos so we needed something special… but for not that much money. I’ve recently started going to «Works of Art Studio» in Los Feliz but they were closed on Sunday. My fiancée and I had an appointment with the same stylist. So the fact we both had the same issues with her makes it seem systematic. We were both very explicit about the style we wanted and the length. Yet, our stylist just kept blindly cutting away. She was great at sculpting and creating layers but she never stopped to actually think about what style we were going for. It felt like getting a hair cut by mechanized clippers. So though the Hive vibe is a great the haircut couldn’t match it’s image.

Absolutely amazing! Best hairdresser experience I’ve ever had. Ash did my hair, he understood straight ahead exactly the hue of colour I wanted, and was meticulous with the work. I was so happy with the outcome, I never thought my hair could look so good. Also really friendly staff and a nice overall vibe! Would definitely recommend.

Place is very welcoming and relaxed. I enjoyed Marisa, she knew exactly what I wanted and went straight to it. I wasn’t aware of this prior to my arrival but they sell their own house brand of products as well, it’s all advertised as organic and environmentally friendly. I dig the holds. Big thanks to The Hive. Cheers!

Ash is awesome! I went to the Hive as soon as I got to LA. He was so pleasant and gave me all sorts of recommendations of what to do in the area. Ash really just loves doing hair. I have long hair and I am always nervous that stylists will cut too much off, and he let me know«Long hair is very serious in LA», so I knew I was in good hands! He takes the time and care that one should, and it was just a very pleasant experience. He’s great :)

I’ve been coming here for pretty much a year now and I drive a decent distance just to get a haircut here. I live in El Monte which is about 20 – 30 minutes away but I think it’s worth it to get the care and attention the stylists give you there. Looking at the other customers and their responses when I have my hair cut they would probably agree with me as they seem happy with the end products. I will say that having your hair washed by another person who isn’t your parent and you’re not 2 years old feels amazing. My regular stylist is Malina and she definitely has a warmth about her that makes her feel like a friend. They’ll help you decide on a cut as well if you’re unsure what would look good on you if you’re going for something different from your usual too. The typical price for a haircut for men is $ 45 which I feel is worth it. Plus I also feel that it’s worth tipping a good amount because it’s an enjoyable experience.

These guys are great. Muzette delayed her long commute home to fix a bad and overly expensive cut I had received at Object in Santa Monica(should have stuck with my usual stylist) Andrew is so gracious(not to mention adorable). He cut my friend’s bangs so perfectly that I thought I had been transported to 1968 Soho.

I love this place! Andrew is simply amazing. I have really unruly, frizz+puff prone, curly-wavy long hair and had previously never left a salon fully satisfied with my cut. This is my second visit with Andrew and he knocked it out of the park yet again. The layers are perfect! I can actually let my hair air dry with little to no product and it looks and feels amazing. Apart from being ridiculously talented he’s also genuinely kind and friendly. The salon has a really nice welcoming vibe and clean open interior. And the pricing is very reasonable. Thank you again Hive!

I’ve seen Katie twice now after a friend recommended her for my ash-blonde highlights. The color is perfectly ashy, Katie really listens and gets it right. The salon is super cute, staff are all friendly, prices are SO reasonable, they have a great selection of hair products, and parking is never a hassle on the side streets either. Because they are so good they book up quickly so I’d recommend calling ahead a few weeks.

Would give the place zero stars. My stylist at helmet in WeHo(Melissa — highly recommended) is out on maternity leave. So chose this place for a color touch up because of high ratings and convenience to my home. Stylist I was given — Andrew — ruined my linen dress as dye seeped into it. Place is beyond lame. Also overpriced for the service it provides. This place is all about being hip with no substance.

I’ve been going to The Hive for the last three years and it is always a great experience. The space is so airy, bright and full of interesting art and products, including my favorite line by Davines. Most of all I enjoy the service I’ve received from the stylists and the great conversations we have while they work their wonders. I have gone to the truly awesome Isadora in the past and she’s always done beautiful work and has a very cool, kind personality. Yesterday I went to Andrew for the first time and he was super intuitive and thoughtful in giving me exactly what I wanted but even better than I imagined. I look forward to the next time he cuts color and cut my hair, and another great chat too.

I was at The Hive yesterday, Thursday april 24 th. I think its a cool place, but I went in there with a haircut that had went bad in the first place, so I had written the place, asking it was possible to help me. I called them, told them my story, and I got an appointment. So the thing is, the guy who cut my hair, I dont remember if I got his name or not??? I told him, and showed him how chopped my hair was, especially in the back. I let him know I didnt want to be shorter, that he should only fix it, if it was bad! He asked about the front, I told him, if it doesnt need to be corrected, please leave it, cause I really dont want it to shorter than it is. Long story, short(er) I went super short! He tried to style my hair, we went for it to be(kinda like Singer Pinks Haircut, on top) But it was impossible for him to style it back… Cause it was TOO short, as i told him NOT to do it… I asked him, politely, if I could try to fix it… He said of course…(He had mentioned in the beginning that he thought I was a hair stylist, coming in, to leave my resume, very sweet of him) So i put the front own again, and it was so difficult to style it… While I was trying to do my hair, he sprayed water in it, so it wouldnt brake. He tried to put in dry shampoo, to make it stiffer, it was a mess… I told him, you went too short, but theres nothing I can do about it now… He told me, to go buy some vitamins, called Bio 10, it will make your hair grow faster… Very kind of him, BUT… I wanted to fix the problem, not have another issue… It wont get longer fast enough… I went home, washed it, and styled it my self, and it looks a lot better, but still, way to short! Well well, I guess i wont die from having a shorter cut… I dont think I will come back… In fact, I think I might want to learn how to cut my own hair!

I was really not impressed with The Hive and will not return. I was bouncing between two different ideas with my hair, part of me wanted to cut 4 – 6 inches off and the other part wanted to keep my long hair. I’m not a hair expert and was expecting my stylist to have a firm opinion on what would look best factoring my face shape and hair She really had no opinion and did not come off as confident. I’m going to you as an expert and she honestly made me afraid to even have her cut my hair. Two friends had a similar experience where the stylist had a «whatever» attitude. Overall, salon is nice, nice products good location and very good prices BUT I rather spend $ 100 – 150 and have a more confident stylist cut my hair.

I’ve been feeling pretty self conscious lately about all the grey hairs coming in(welcome to my 30s, right?) and I needed a solution– I couldn’t stop pulling them out. Not a good strategy! :( Last week I had my first appointment at The Hive to get some help from an experienced professional because my bad dye jobs just weren’t cutting it. Ash was amazing/seriously skilled and fixed the nightmare my hair had become with a gorgeous cut and the nicest color I’ve ever had. It looks really natural but much prettier & warmer than my true color. He asked me a bunch of questions and then worked with my terrible indecisiveness, giving his expert opinion whenever I didn’t really know what I wanted. Ash cut off a lot of hair and my overgrown mop transformed into an easy to manage hair cut that keeps getting compliments. Thank you!!! The highlights and lowlights he gave me really concealed all the greys that have been driving me crazy and I’m finally free(for now). Ash was a pleasure to talk to and made me laugh a bunch of times. He is super talented and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to him for a cut or a color. Great salon! I will definitely return once the greys return.
