I came here to cut my hair, and nori is the worst choice I ever had. he has no idea of style, just cut like a cutting machine… I really hate my hair when I walk out and he kept talking to me and paid no attention on my hair. never choose nori!!!

Nori did an amazing job of cutting my hair. I will definitely go back and have another cut in a month or so :)

I love Aki. He is very skilled, and very nice. Better than anyone Who has cut my hair before in LA.

i LOVE this place. I have DESPERATELY fine hair. I wasn’t so sure what to expect my first time in, as most of their cliental have beautiful, thick, asian hair, but i was not in the least disappointed! My first time in i actually got a DIGITALPERM and cut and it turned out better than i could have hoped! He paid so much attention to the little details in the cut to make it all really pop. I mean, it showed. six months later and my perm is still holding. i have been to other places for perms before and was always hugely let down. I went in today for my second time, just for a cut, and the stylist worked wonders. he took lots of care and paid plenty of attention to detail to give my hair a piecey, feathery, bouncy look instead of flaaaaat.

I needed a clean cut and SEAN hooked me up! I came in, I showed him my headshot to inform him I needed to keep that same exact look. And He made me one very, VERYHAPPYCUSTOMER! Not only was the service AMAZING but he was very professional. SEAN pays attention to detail, extremely patient, and understood what I requested. I am all about people who give me their time, especially when it’s their absolute BEST. I tipped him big, left the shop feeling like a covergirl ad campaign, and now I look forward to seeing SEAN again on my next visit!!! SEAN, thank you so so much!

I honestly love this place! «Kimi» or Satoko does my hair and she is the sweetest lady I really love her! I get the karatin blow out from them and it’s affordable and lasts a real long time! 200 $ out the door and months of great hair! Arogato, Satoko!!!

Taiga does a wonderful job cutting my hair. He is friendly, efficient, and the prices are very reasonable. Would highly recommend coming here for hair cuts!

Called hoping they’d be open on Labor Day and yes they were! I booked an appointment with Sean. He does such a great job. Beautiful cut and blow dry. Sean pays attention to detail. Sean even offered to show me how to cut my own bangs(maybe he could tell I had tried to give it a go on my own. Ha ha!). Anyway, Epoch Salon is in a great location with lots of parking. Make sure to ask for Sean!

Sean was very patient and meticulous with my haircut. :) He spent over an hour working out the edges and making sure my bangs looked the exact way I wanted. Very friendly and handled my hair with extreme care. He just started working at this salon for around 8 months and I would definitely recommend him. Great service and there is no wait time if you go during the weekday afternoons.

I normally come here and get wonderful cuts from Taiga. He’s easily 4 – 5 stars. However, today I needed a bang trim and it was cut by another stylist(male, didn’t quite catch his name). I clearly explained that I normally do the medium length side-swept bangs to avoid poking my eyes, but somehow after he was done snipping the bangs were a good half inch above my eyebrow — yikes!!! I look like a little kid, fresh-off-the-boat. Thank goodness for bobby pins — looks like I’ll be stuck with pinning those way-too-short bangs for the next 4 months… it’s a sad feeling to be $ 10 poorer with the worst bangs of your life. On the bright side, at least hair will grow back! If you’re going to come here, make sure you read up on Unilocal reviews and request the stylist you want, or you might be stuck with a haircut you regret.

I came in wanting a wave perm. They asked which of the pictures on a book with 20 images or so that I liked most. Unfortunately, I didn’t like any of the photos because I wanted the curls to start close to my root, not too far down. My hair is pretty fine and I want volume at the top, not volume weighing down on an already flat crown. My consultants name was Sean and he was pretty honest in telling me that he didn’t think it would hold well on my hair if he put curlers close to the root. Since my hair is soft and long he recommended I didn’t do that. I appreciated his honesty which is why I’m leaving a good review. Rather than saying he can do whatever it takes just give him my money, he gave me an honest consultation and said it wouldn’t be how I want it. Which is believable since I didn’t like any of the sample images either. No complaints here.

I cannot help but writing this review, even though I’ve never written one on Unilocal before! Aki cut my hair, and apparently he is more than just great than you could ever ask for. He doesn’t really talk much. When he did my hair he seemed to fully concentrate on what he’s doing, the result is exactly the same with what I was expecting when I explained to him how I would like to get my hair done. Since I’m from Korea, I always went to Korean hair salon ever since I came to America, and I was always disappointed with the result. I’ve never tried Japanese salon before but I thought I could give it a shot and the result is just wonderful! This is literally the first time I left the salon 100 percent satisfied and said thank you over again. I wish I could say something better to be more convincing, but I don’t have words. That is how satisfied and happy I am with my hair done. Do find Aki for your haircut guys! :)

Amazing cut and time with Taiga again! He remembers me from forever ago! My 3rd cut with him. He is subtly skillful with both cutting and listening skills. You feel at ease. It’s always such a pleasant experience here! The result is very excellent and satisfying once again. Pretty much just what you wanted. Happy to have met taiga. He’s really easy-going and nice. I brought in a hand drawn picture of what I wanted + challenges, and also photos of myself with hair I wanted. Oh and he gave me an amazing hair curling tip that will be useful for the rest of my life. Just that tip alone was worth the trip here!

I have tried everything from high-end, celebrity-clientele, here’s-my-whole-paycheck type salons to Fantastic Sams/Super Cuts and cheaper… And there are some great ones in between… But my go-to for a basic, yet amazing trim for my stick straight Asian hair is Salon Epoch. Aki gave me a pretty digital perm years ago, but Taiga is my haircut guy. He’s adorable, personable, and really knows his hair. The prices are very reasonable, and you don’t have to book days and days in advance(unless it’s the holidays). Oh, and after your new ‘do you can get some choice Japanese munchies next door. 5 stars!

Mimi is great!!! I always cut my hair with her! She is really sweet and her work is impeccable. They use Japanese products that are great and have nice smell. Mimi also does updos… You just bring her the picture and she will do it! Hair cut: $ 45

SO cheap, so easy. They seem to have some turnover as I rarely see the same stylists twice, but I’m always happy when I leave. And the quality is always good — it is clear that the staff love what they do and take pride They get busy after work so if you can squeeze in during the day you’ll have tons of time and attention from the staff. They have lots of Japanese style magazines and if that’s the look you want, this is the place. I actually prefer Hair Epoch to the Koreatown stylists because they seem to be gentler and more open to what you want. The space doesn’t look like much but I like that they’re not pretentious and consequently they can charge less. That’s great for us!

This girl(me) has never done a thing to her hair– I’ve had 25 years of straight dark brown virgin hair. I originally wanted to color my hair but as I was searching on Unilocal for salons to color my hair, I discovered this awesome thing called a digital perm. I decided to take a leap and do it. I called to schedule a consultation after work yesterday afternoon and they happened to be free for me to go that evening. The gentleman who helped me showed me a picture of what style would look best on me. I was a bit iffy because the curls looked like they wouldn’t be as strong as I’d like but I decided to trust his judgement. He asked me questions about my hair like what I visioned it to be, how often I washed it – basically an intake. We scheduled an appointment for the next day(today). I showed up 15 – 20 minutes early to my appointment and he was able to get me into a seat right away. What I really appreciated was that he explained everything again to make sure he knew what I wanted. He said it would take about 3 hours but I was out of there in a little over 2. It took the hair stylist quite some labor though — 3 shampoos, putting my hair in the rods, blood, sweat, tears(kidding about the last three) etc, etc. Before this, I actually really liked my hair but now I LOVEEE it. I’m glad I trusted his judgement – the curls came out amazing! He also showed me a few ways to style it – it was very appreciated. He was very courteous and considerate. I wish I caught his name, he was awesome!

I have long hair and complete paranoia about cutting it so by the time i make it to a hair dresser I can only wear it up in a pinned bun or a braid… This time I decided that going to a Beverly Hlls salon and paying through my teeth is just completely stupid so i remembered that the last time i had a fantastic haircut was when i was living in Japan. So i started to google japanese hair salons and found Hair Epoch! Following the Unilocal reviews i chose Mimi. I was so so so so happy I did that! I mean the research + intuition paid off. She is fabulous and kind and a wizard with the scissors. The true test of a haircut is when you wash it a couple of days after your hair cut and dry it a bit and let your hair do it’s natural thing. NOWTHAT is what shows you if your haircut is brilliant or just a crappy one that has been covered up with a good blow-dry. Not with the cut that Mimi gave me. It is so brilliant that my boyfriend keeps telling me every day how cool it looks. I wanted long layers, a cut that makes the end of my hair flip out without styling and the tresses have life and fun. This hair cut is about 10 times better than the one I got in Beverly Hills the last time. Domo Arigato Mimi Chan! I will be back! and telling my girlfriends about you as well!

This place is great — no frills, no nonsense, just really good hair-cutting. The prices are very reasonable, and the hair professionals are courteous and highly skilled. They are highly detail-oriented, and keep notes tracking every customer’s preferences and hair quality. It helps that they are also not(openly, at least) SEXIST, like the people at Étude Lounge, . I came here for a digital perm a few months ago. Unfortunately, the perm started flattening after two weeks — not, I think, because Hair Epoch did a bad job, but more likely because my East Coast hair hasn’t yet gotten used to the dry California air. Nevertheless, Hair Epoch offered me a full refund, no questions asked. Seriously, when I compare this to my experiences at Étude Lounge, I hate myself a little bit for spending so much more money at a place that treats its customers with so much less respect. Hair Epoch is definitely the place to go in LA for Asian hair!

This review covers my previous three visits to Hair Epoch, and all three visits have been with Allie. Most recently, I received my second Japanese digital perm from Allie on Jan. 26, 2014. HAIRCUTS: Allie trims and cuts precisely the amount asked for, no more and no less! She’s given me short, side-swept bangs, layers, and just a trim during my visits without any disappointments. DIGITALPERM: I wanted loose, wavy curls to avoid having to style my hair each day. A keratin treatment is done first to avoid severely damaging your hair. The perm came out perfectly each time! Allie created the curls exactly how I described them to her! :) Allie– you’re amazing!
