The Fig On Third Salon

Sally did an amazing job with my fine curly hair. She gave me a beautiful bob with lots of lovely layers! She really listened to what I wanted, and delivered. I highly recommend her, and the salon.

Best cut and color a girl could ask for. I was worried to trust my hair to someone new. Glad I did. Amazing job!

I needed an emergency bang trim while on vacation and was so impressed by this place. I was able to walk in and everyone was so nice. Carolyne did a great job and was so sweet and they just told me to tip, no charge. Such a great place.

She’s Petite, has green hair and slays hair! Her name is Bianca, but for this particular review I’m gonna call her «B» because, she just did such a bangin ass job on my hair she deserves a nickname for this review.
How me finding this salon happened. I was on the hunt for a hair salon that was close to me and not over priced. And Unilocal strategically placed this at the top of my list with a photo of a similar cut I was looking for. «Hmmm,» I thought. The photo caught my eye, so I clicked on it. I was browsing thru the photos and came across another picture I liked and even though it wasn’t what I was looking for I wanted to see if the Unilocaler noted the stylist responsible for the cute look. «Styled by Bianca.» Okay, Bianca it is. Next I found the salon via instagram and then while browsing that I was able to find more of Bianca’s work. Convinced that she would be able to serve me up the textured bob and effortless beach wave style, I decided to give the salon a call.
Phone rang, all the way to voicemail. Damnit! Lol. I left a message and not even an hour later my phone call was returned and I was even able to get an appointment that very week. How awesome is that?! The day after Thanksgiving, appointment at 12. I arrive show B what I wanted and over all goal (with color at a later date) and huntyyyyyyy she gave me that cut girl. Exactly what I wanted! She was so sweet and knowledgeable. And when she was done drying my hair she honored my request of the beachy wave look. While she was gently wanding my hair she also explained to me how I myself can achieve the look at home.
Overall, if anyone is looking for a new hairstylist and wants someone who listens and explains what is going on while you’re sitting in the chair Bianca is the stylist to see. The Fig Salon on third has exceptional stylists and fair prices. For me it was even better because it was just north from me, literally 10 minutes to drive up. So that was icing on the cake. I’m going back to get my hair colored by B and I cannot wait for the results. Oh yeah, I walked in the house and my boyfriend loves my new do… Which matters a whole lot because he paid for it and has to look at me everyday as well as hear my mouth if I didn’t like it! Ahaha.

Long story short:
I wanted ombré blue hair done by Bianca; it didn’t work out due to my very stubborn hair follicles. Even though it didn’t work out Bianca was very sweet/​accommodating and listened to my concerns and needs. Jacquie gave me a full refund considering I wasn’t happy, and even though I was disappointed that it didn’t work out, I am a very satisfied customer on how I was treated. I got a haircut and black gloss prior to this, and they did a great job. I am very happy to find a salon like this after recently moving to Los Angeles. :)

Once again Unilocal has proven invaluable in my life! I found myself in desperate need of a haircut and I didn’t want to drive all the way out to Santa Monica or Torrance during rush hour so I quickly hopped on Unilocal and found this gem of a place!
I called and the receptionist was super friendly and he matched me with Kathleen.
When you walk in, walk to the back, that’s where the receptionist desk is. The interior is amazing! Immaculately clean of course, and the overall design is warm and welcoming.
Kathleen is an amazing stylist! She’s patient, immensely talented, and very friendly!

If you want to make a decision you won’t ever regret, go see Thelma! She always listens to me, and knows exactly what she’s doing. I always have a great time at The Fig because of this girl!
It was a Friday night, and of course Thelma has places to be, but she stayed late and tended to my hair (thanks to Jacquie for helping with the blow dry too)!
Thelma gave me the most gorgeous rose gold balayage. I was her canvas, and she rocked it! Trust me, I’ve been to boring and mediocre salons… and The Fig at Third is not one of them!

This is my second review for Thelma at Fig. My first cut with her in ¹⁄₂₀₁₄ was AMAZING — exactly what I wanted, cut my bangs DRY, which no one has ever done, and it made a huge difference, and everything turned out the way I asked. I posted my review the same day because I was so happy.
Fast forward to my third cut (this was sometime toward the end of 2014) — I wanted to maintain my same haircut, but just shorter. Nothing new, nothing different, no change from my previous two haircuts. She’s cutting away, we’re chatting, the next thing I know, my hair is at least an inch shorter than I wanted. She said she «decided» to go a little shorter because my hair «grows so fast.» That was the first shocking thing — that should be MY decision and something that we discuss BEFORE anyone cuts anything. Then I asked her to cut just a little more into one side so it wasn’t a blunt, square cut. And she basically refused to do it — «I think we were waiting for that to grow out? No? I think it will look a little too soccer mom.»
Again — while I appreciate and do want feedback, at the end of the day, it’s MY decision. I asked again and she went into another explanation of why «we» shouldn’t do that. As I was paying, she saw that I was clearly unhappy and she said «I just want you to be happy. If you don’t like it, then you can come back and we can change it.» I walked out, feeling diminished and upset and I haven’t been back. What would have made me «happy» was if I had gotten the haircut that I wanted and specifically asked for, not the one SHE wanted for me. And soccer mom haircut or not, that’s MY decision, not the stylist’s. (And it wasn’t a ‘soccer mom’ cut — all I wanted was a little more layering on ONE side in ONE section of my hair. I still have no idea why she was so adamant about not doing it.)
I’m at a different salon now, which makes me sad because I really think Thelma is a talented stylist and she DID give me a fabulous cut the first time I went. But given how often I have to get my haircut, I’m not spending my money with a stylist who refuses to listen to what I want.
