I wasn’t impressed with this place at all. The service was bad on a Thursday late night. The cocktails are gross too. The wings were good but was missing sauces to dip it with and the sushi was poorly made. Too expensive for nothing special.

This place is literally steps away from my office in downtown LA by the Knight’s Inn. I’ve always wondered what a sushi joint was doing coexisting with an inn so I went there on a spur, which was already a bad sign. The place truly looks ghetto outside, especially their patio area, but the inside looks okay, a little better than I would have expected it to. They share the parking lot with the inn next door and there is always charred pieced of glass outside the place along with homeless people and their market carts. The service and food was average, probably because they cut down quality so they can keep prices low. I came here for lunch and do not plan on coming back, so I can only imagine what it must be like at night in the not so secured part of downtown.

This new restaurant replaced Matsu which moved about a block away. We were hoping that the new Matsu was open but they are still in the process of getting their new location ready. We figured we’ll give this place a try and we did. So I tried the salmon teriyaki bento and my co-worker tried the chicken teriyaki bento. Our meal started off with some miso and salad. The miso was ok but the salad I could not get a grasp on the dressing. So I ended up not finishing it, which is the first for me. The bento arrived with some california rolls and some tempura. The tempura was crunchy and cooked right, but it lacked seasoning. The dipping sauce was watered down. The salmon was decent. They did not use sushi/sticky rice on their cali rolls. It tasted ok and a little less rice would be good. I’m glad I tried it, but I won’t be back. I asked my co-worker what he thinks and he’s not going back there either. Don’t know if this is because of the just opened jitters. But go check it out for yourself.
