The Buttermilk Truck is one of my favorite LA food trucks. I was excited that they were at Las Vegas Foodie Fest. They had a limited menu but we weren’t complaining. We got everything on the menu. Chicken n Waffles, Red Velvet Pancakes and Fried Chicken w/Chorizo gravy sandwich. The food was just as good as it is in Cali. Sometimes trucks be slippin when they go out of town. But that wasn’t a problem here. Glad I got the chance to have them one last time.

«Free pancakes!» I heard the announcement before I saw the plates of small pancakes set out on a table in front of the truck. A young woman was on hand, dispensing the pancakes topped with slices of fresh strawberries from the Autry Farmers’ Market and whipped cream. I thought the pancake was a bit bland, but the strawberries were delightfully sweet. Anyhow, what a great way to attract people… I did end up ordering from the truck. I had the HAWAIIANBREAKFASTSLIDERS, which were slices of Portuguese sausage, sauteed onions and shoyu scrambled eggs on Hawaiian bread. Together with fresh squeezed orange juice and a cappuccino from other farmers’ market vendors and it was the perfect breakfast for a leisurely Saturday morning. I also tried a bite of my friend’s FRIEDCHICKENANDCHORIZOGRAVYSANDWICH, the special for the day. It was great! The breading on the chicken(I thought it was a good sized piece) and the seasoning of the gravy were both excellent.

So, it was one random Thursday(?) night that I saw the Buttermilk Truck on Broadway in Long Beach. Well, I saw a lot of food trucks, but the Buttermilk Truck was the one my boyfriend and I settled on. We ordered the Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Pancakes, the Hawaiian Bread Breakfast Sliders and the Buttermilk Brick. Buttermilk Brick — so they actually ran out of biscuits and took a dollar off, but regardless of that, whatever you wanna call this, it was delicious. I bet it would’ve tasted even better with the biscuit, but that gravy, man oh man, that gravy was absolutely heavely. The way it was seasoned and the way it tasted with the hasbrowns and overeasy egg, I would definetly have this again. And I can just imagine dipping the biscuits in it and being in heaven. My boyfriend loved this over what he got(below). Hawaiian Bread Breakfast Sliders — my boyfriend was disappointed actually, he still ate them all, but he was unimpressed with the sausage. Because of that he devoured my food. Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Pancakes — these were AMAZING. Absolutely amazing. They tasted like red velvet and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I also think that it doesn’t need the chocolate chips, I would have enjoyed them without them. My boyfriend though thinks they add the perfect final touch. I liked them so much, I wish I bought the pancake mix. Until we meet again Buttermilk Truck, until we meet again.

Yumm, I got the red velvet chocolate pancakes and I LOVED them. The huge slab of cream cheese butter was a little much but unique. I considered buying the red velvet pancake mix but that might be too dangerous… I can’t wait to go back and try the breakfast sliders and chicken & waffles!

The Buttermilk Truck Pancake Event JUNE20, 2013 Last week I was incredibly fortunate to personally get invited as a member of the press for The Buttermilk Truck’s pancake event at the Shangri-La Hotel in Santa Monica! Not only will their Red Velvet Pancakes be included in the Shangri-La’s brunch menu, but The Buttermilk Truck has also launched a dry mix of this flavor as well! On June 11th, pancake lovers, bloggers, foodies, press, and sunset enthusiasts gathered on the hotel’s rooftop to celebrate this exciting new venture. Check it out! See this tray? There’s a good chance I was responsible for eating the missing pancakes on that platter… Oh wait, yes! You can see in the background that it is me. What can I say, I’m obsessed with their red velvet pancakes! The Red Velvet Pancakes from The Buttermilk Truck were truckin’ amazing — in fact, they might just be the best Red Velvet Pancakes I’ve ever eaten. These pancakes were the right amount of everything: batter, moistness, consistency, powdered sugar, and taste. Perhaps The Buttermilk Truck should serve these pancakes on actual red velvet pillows — they’re certainly worthy of the decadence! I have to give a HUGE thanks to Shop Talk Los Angeles and The Buttermilk Truck for including me in such a fabulous event. Between the delicious pancakes, good company, beautiful views, and divine drinks, what more could a pancake blogger ask for?!

Not living in LA pretty much means the chances of me running into a Food Truck without planning it is a slim to none chance. So, I have to plan(which is cool cause I like too). I attended a Eat See Hear Movie Event(Ted) and was formally introduced to The Buttermilk Truck. ESH: «Amaya, meet Buttermilk Truck» Amaya: «Hey Boo» And this is how we met, honest! Sorta. Anywho, Buttermilk had chicken. And I luvs chicken. So, I ordered the Chicken Sandwich with Chorizo Gravy. Thank you Food gods. It was DELICIOUS. The chicken was fried, dyed and layed to the side… moist and seasoned well. The chorizo gravy was tasty, and added moisture to the sandwich. Nobody likes a dry sandwich. It was great, and messy. Fried Chicken w/Cinnamon Waffles — Yum and More Yum. My son decided he wanted this, and it was on point. The Chicken was outstanding and the waffle was GREAT! Like, one of the best waffles I’ve ever had. He offered a few bites, and I took them. Lol. LUV!

After years of hoping to catch this truck, I was glad that it was randomly around the area I was dining one night. I got the red velvet chocolate chip pancakes, which was $ 6. It was a pretty decent portion, contained inside a fry tray with some whipped cream cheese. Overall, it was pretty good and not too sweet.

So many things to try! This was one of five trucks at the Meals on Wheels, Long Beach Gourmet Food Truck night fund raiser in March. This truck is mostly breakfast type items. I tried the Hawaiian Breakfast«sliders»($ 7) This is eggs with shoyu(soy sauce) cooked like an omelet, with grilled onions and sliced Portuguese sausage. All this was put on 3 Hawaiian sweet bread rolls which were NOT separated. Minus 1 star for giving me a breakfast hot dog omelet instead of breakfast«sliders» like they said it was. Aside from that the flavor was just«Meh», nothing special at all. Minus a ½ star. On the flip side, the blueberry donut balls were damn tasty! I agree with others, they needed a lot more lemon glaze rather than the very light drizzle they did get. Plus 1 star! THANKYOU Buttermilk Truck for donating a portion of your proceeds from the day to Meals on Wheels, that’s awesome!

Amazing. Truly amazing. I have been trying to be in the same place as this truck since I moved to LA. Low and behold, I found it in Signal Hill on Saturday. It was parked outside a new dog boarding place that was hosting pet adoptions. Anyway, my fiancé ordered a bacon breakfast sandwich($ 4), and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich($ 6). Both sandwiches were roughly the same size and came on a nice roll of Hawaiian sweet bread. The bacon sandwich was good, but it wasn’t mind blowing. The fried chicken sandwich, on the other hand, was incredible. The chicken was nicely fried but not overcooked or dry on the inside, which for white meat, is a real accomplishment. The best part, however, was the chorizo gravy that was slathered all over the chicken. Wow. Wow. Wow. Imagine the best sausage gravy you’ve ever had — creamy, peppery, flavorful. Then, add chorizo. So delicious! I will definitely be back to try some other menu items.

They were at Hong Kong plaza in March 2012! We ordered Red velvet chocolate chip pancakes, Fried Chicken with Housemade Cinnamon Waffles and Hawaiian Bread Breakfast Sliders. Hmmmm. What else can I say? I was stuffed! They were all so good, but the Red velvet chocolate chip pancakes, unbeatable. I’d definitely follow this truck.

Red Velvet chocolate chip pancakes — must try it! You get about 4 pieces of red velvet pancakes with chocolate chip pieces. The pancakes were warm, moist and soft. with some whipped cream cheese on top. Yum! Tastes like heaven in your mouth! :)

Are food trucks graded on a curve? Because I don’t get the four star average on this. The Buttermilk Truck specializes mostly in sweets and their Pancakes Bites are their calling card. Naturally, that’s what I had — the red velvet variety. Nothing about it was particularly memorable except for the money that was no longer in my wallet. It’s not bad but it’s definitely crippled by hype. But hey — it’s on wheels!

Not offering bacon cuz it’s dinnertime? I’m sorry but… FU*K THAT… Buttermillk! Why do you torture me so?! I opted for sausage instead… HAWAIIANBREAKFASTSLIDERS Pretty sloppily thrown together, the sausage was wedged between two of the sliders(here’s a closeup for all you sausage pervs ), minimal egg, grilled onions kinda all over the place. I’ll admit it wasn’t bad… maybe 3.5 stars ok… I’ll be back for some muthafu*kn BACON gawdammit! Sorry, I tend to get a little«tourette’s» when I haven’t had bacon… it’s a curse… FU*K!

I love Brinner(Breakfast for dinner)! Naturally, I had to follow this truck on twitter to see if they’ll be in my area. I splurged and bought the three following items: Food: 1) Red velvet chocolate chip pancake bites were so warm and fluffy! The cream cheese wasn’t overwhelming at all and had just the right amount of sweetness. 2) Buttermilk Brick consists of hash browns, 2 eggs over easy, buttermilk biscuit and housemade chorizo gravy. It sounds heavy, but it was absolutely amazing! The hash browns weren’t too greasy and the gravy was so flavorful. It was the perfect choice for this dish. My only complaint was that the biscuit was tougher than expected. It would’ve been perfect had it been soft. 3) Breakfast Sandwich was served on brioche bread with cheese and fried egg and applewood smoked bacon and hash browns. YUMMM! The bread was soft and buttery. I could’ve eaten just the bread and be happy. On top of that, you can never go wrong with bacon and fried eggs.

Before I say anything else, let’s get this straight — the buttermilk truck really does live up to its name. From waffles to red velvet pancakes, everything they make would ward off any carbaphobe away. I’ve heard about this truck a number of times, and I knew about their signature red velvet pancakes… the thing is, once I saw that they had chicken and waffles, I KNEW I had to get it. What can I say? The service was like any other food truck — courteous and respectful — and they worked fairly quickly. The dish came out looking pretty good… and ended up tasting just as good. The chicken was boneless, crispy, and smack-yo-lips tasty. The waffles were perfectly crunchy and cinnamony. One think to keep in mind when ordering this entrée is that you should DUMP the syrup on your waffles and fried chicken. It tends to get a little dry near the end if you don’t get enough of that sugary liquidy viscousy stuff. All and all, it was good. I wasn’t blown away — after all, it’s fried chicken and waffles… is it really all that difficult to make? But the best thing about this truck is that I felt like I got my money’s worth out of it. Most trucks give you so little when you pay so much… the Buttermilk truck gives you a lot when you pay a decent amount! When and if this truck comes around, I will definitely try their red velvet pancakes!

I discovered the Buttermilk Truck at the Atomic Eats Food Truck, which occurs every Wednesday from 5:30 — 9:00pm in Cerritos. While waiting for my Raja Sweet Potato Fries from Frysmith, which was right next to The Buttermilk Truck, I noticed that most people were gathered around this truck. I decided to check it out and the craze was about the Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Pancakes. The guy taking our order was rather cheerful and enthusiastic, but it was okay because he was trying to make the job exciting for himself. Disclaimer: NOT a fan of Red Velvet. Don’t gasp. Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Pancakes with cream cheese whip — $ 5 for(5) 2.5″ pancake bites/silvers — not too sweet unless it’s with the chocolate chip — cream cheese whip had a slight cheese cheese taste but definitely not as sweet as the frosting Verdict: I’m not compelled to try the Red Velvet Pancakes again. However, they good business people; their profit margin must be large if they charging $ 1 per pancake bite. If given an additional donation of 8 pennies to pay Uncle Sam, I can get a McChicken Sandwich and be more satisfied. If I do try Buttermilk again, I’ll try their other breakfast choices like the french toast.

Buttermilk Truck is one truck I’ve wanted to try for some time now. Probably the number one reason is simply because it seems to get more positive reviews than other food trucks. A lot of these food trucks have their detractors, but there seems to be less of them when it comes to Buttermilk. Buttermilk Truck features a breakfast/early afternoon menu and a late night menu. I tried the truck around noon and I opted for their specialty – red velvet chocolate chip pancake bites. They also do regular buttermilk pancake bites as well as a seasonal flavor, which was pumpkin on my visit. The pancakes were nicely moist(not dry which can plague some pancakes). The flavor of the red velvet batter was good. I was not a big fan of the melted chocolate chips. There were too many of them and I felt it really overpowered the taste of the pancake batter. Very sweet and dessert-like. They garnished the pancakes with a cream cheese and butter-like frosting. Not too sweet or sugary. It was good though a little goes a long way(probably not the healthiest thing either). I also topped the pancakes bites with their syrup, which was just okay. There was not that big of a line; the line-to-order moved quickly. Service was friendly though it did take a little bit of time for the food to come out. From my food truck experiences though, I felt the speed of getting the food was about what I have experienced with other food trucks. I am glad I tried Buttermilk and they definitely have enough options(like french toast, cake donuts, fried chicken with waffles) that would make me want to come back. I thought what I had was good but maybe not great. Still, if you are a big food truck fan, Buttermilk should be on your list to try.
