I have been here before when it was the Chalet, which I really enjoyed. Recently went with a friend but was disappointed by the beer on tap(tried two different styles that were both mediocre) and several other elements. The one bartender was very friendly and helpful. Initially enjoyed the old school rock on the juke box played by others but wanted a different sound and saw that it had a really narrow selection. Does it cost more to add more selections? The final insult was the«DJ» playing an astonishingly narrow array of really bad metal music. This place could be so much better with an upgrade in the music.

Used to frequent this place when it was still called the Chalet. Not much has changed, but have added an outdoor patio in the back, which is nice. Friendly bar tenders, a good juke box, and usually doesn’t get very crowded(during the week at least.)

This place is so groovy. Ignore the ‘proper dress required’ plaque on the front, left behind from an earlier era. Inside its like an olde British pub with stone walls, wooden everything and good old rock n roll. Also a little dart area where a couple was like seriously making out. This place feels like it’s own world.

Cool little bar. Dark and moody looking — like your in an old pub. Solid range of booze. Great for a drink

I’ve been in here a few times. Dark, low ceilings, exposed wood, and a fireplace; has a cool eastern european chalet look. The first time I popped in for a drink before dinner: pleasant. The second time, I went here with my SO and we played darts(they have a single board) during happy hour: excellent. The music was also on point; we asked the bartender where the songs were coming from and she told us it was an internet radio station playing 13th Floor Elevators. It had the right vibe for darts and bourbon(even though I lost both games we played.) The last time we went there was on a Thursday and there was a DJ spinning some classic metal. We met a couple friends there and drank like Hemingway in a dark booth. Definitely a regular spot for us, especially since it’s walkable.

Drove all the way across town to go here, then was turned away at the door for wearing a cap with a «B» on it. «Is that B for Boston?» the bouncer asked me. When I said yes, he told me I couldn’t wear it in the bar. No sports logos allowed! WTF? Stupid. We left.

I come here all the time. And I finally met Jessica last night. She’s an amazing bartender. So inviting and just nice! I never have anything bad to say about this place. It’s good vibes all around!

Friends have been coming here for years. They invited us along for New YEars. They were playing Motorhead, and Judas Priest, really loud(as it should be). Made it hard to talk, but it was a good crowd, all kinds of people, and the drinks were good. I am very much a fan.

This has to be the best kept secret in Eagle Rock. This is what a pub should feel like. Our bartender Jessica made us feel right at home. They spin vinyl on Tuesday night consisting of soul and R&B and other eclectic mix. Happy hour 5 – 7 everyday for draft beer, wine and well drinks for $ 5. Don’t forget they have a dart board and tv’s for all your sporting needs. You will love it. Thanks again Jessica.

Go there if you want to be insulted by the long-hair-don’t-care bouncer: he’s the rudest guy I’ve ever met, told me to «never come back» only because I didn’t hear the first time he told me to leave when the venue was closing. He was utterly aggressive and disrespectful with no reason at all! And then when I was outside minding my own business and accidentally eye-contacted him, he asked me: «why are you looking at me» clearly trying to get me even more pissed. These kind of people only want to fight and plus they’re racist(since I’m clearly not a «local»). Bad vibes, not ever coming back there.

Great little local bar in Eagle Rock. Cool bartenders, great drinks, always a fun vibe inside. This is definitely a more«hipster» bar. One of the bartenders is really«emo». She’s always angry, but it’s kind of funny to watch her and the fact that she never smiles. They have darts & foosball which are always fun! Tons of little seats everywhere and I believe an outside back patio for smoking.

I was here on a saturday night. My friends and i spent over hundreds of dollars here and was treated very unreasonably by the long gray pony tail bouncer. My company and i were trying our best to finish our drinks at around 1:58am, before the place closes. The bar was still partly occupied. However, the pony tail bouncer was very aggressive at escorting us out before the other patrons. He was verbally abusive and bias to us and treated us unfairly. I was very offended and ask for his name. However, all he said was«my name was get the f*** out»…

The black boar took me by surprise. I had not realized it was owned in part by the same developer that brought us the Griffin in Atwater Village. You’ll recognize the similarities right away from the good selection of beers on tap, to the chalkboard menu art on the wall, to the option to heat up by the fire. I indulgently ordered a Pappy Van Winkle whiskey. I got the last drop poured from the bottle so they me be out when you go. No food at this location, unlike the Griffin.

If you like obnoxiously loud distorted album dab-ochery committed by clueless hipster«wanna be» DJs then this is the place for you. If you like people watching for bad 90s anti-fashion, flannel wearing bearded boy-men grungers, 20 somethings gals in grandma clothes, Wayne’s World hat wearing creepsters; then this is the place for you. I suggest you bring ear plugs and a sense of humor to this Portlandia like lodge lbar. On the upside-good drinks and cool bartenders.

Meh. Its a hipster bar for Oxy students who try to consider themselves from LA but are too scared to escape the bubble of Eagle Rock. Its cool every once in a while. The bouncers are super chill.

Drinks are okay, could be poured more carefully/properly. Both times I’ve been, they didn’t have the beer I was looking for. Pretty hard to catch the bartenders’ attention, for how small the place is. Vibe isn’t really chill/comfortable. DJ messed a lot. Environment is just loud but doesn’t match the dim lit set up.

This is a very fun bar. I love the Tshirts and even thought they are $ 20, I almost bought one. Its just one of those great named chill bars. Almost a 5 star but they can overcharge you and that just isnt 5 star worthy at all. Consequently I suggest paying as you go in lieu of having an open card. Otherwise you will pay more than you anticipated… their system is a paper system and I was overcharged but didnt catch it till the next morning. This can easily happen as they dont give you a detailed list of what you have ordered. Pro Tip: You can bring in grub or have it delivered here. Someone had a pizza delivered while I was there and I was extremely jealous. The staff is very friendly. Overall they have a great demeanor. The door guys are very inviting and enthusiastically happy to have you patronizing their establishment. Definitely a great way to handle it. The bartenders were pouring average drinks, not stiffies or watered down ones. The jukebox had a bunch of older songs on it, but was pumping out music for all. There is a dartboard next to the side bar area. A bunch of traditional restaurant bench tables were in here with a long table and a ton of seats at the bar. It’s a bit dank and dark when you first enter with a blackout curtain across the entrance. However having a black boar bust mounted over the middle of the bar was a great touch. I would definitely come back here if I brought some grub, but I would make sure to pay as I went or keep track of what I received drink wise to ensure I didn’t overpay. Otherwise, this place was awesome.
