Once upon a time Alex Gray was THE visionary artist of our time. But now, The Temple of Visions holds a changing collection of original art pieces by dozens of emerging visionary artist that are just as mind blowing & heart-opening, if not more but in a different way, than the stunning Alex Gray. If you enjoy visionary art, surrealism, Dali, Magrite, Michael Parks, etc… You’ll LOVE the art here. Cool thing is that the art is current and just as incredible as these old timers. During some of their events they even have an artist painting live. Go during gallery hours or for an event. Truly inspiring. Heart-centered environment full of really cool kind people, not those fake hollywood types you find at most galleries.

This gallery, very unassuming when viewed from the street, is home to some of Socal’s best visionary and psychedelic art. The artists range from the well-known to the obscure, but are always posessed of great technique and imagination. During art walks there is always some kind of performance art or cosmic-reaching djs, and juices and tea are always served. Some of the late Pablo Amaringo, the Peruvian ayahuasca shaman’s paintings were recently shown. Very friendly staff, too. If you are a fan of artists such as Alex Gray(have you seen the videos for ‘Tool’?) you will be extremely pleased with this place. Two thumbs up and a wink of the third eye !!

SHE: «I think I should be on some sort of hallucinogen coming in here.» ME: «That’s EXACTLY what I said the first time I came in!» Artists and hippies. I know they go together. And this is the stuff I’d expect from that whole 60s free love type era. The spiritual art. Egyptian. Colorful. But this time there were a few pieces that were much better than what I’d seen in previous installations. There were nautical paintings with surrealist work under the sea. A redhead on a chair with teacups. Not my favorite gallery on the art walk personally. But if you are looking for the perfect place to bring that hippie vegan type… this might be a place worth checking out.

OMG. this place is very fresh, having had it’s first exhibition last month during artwalk. regular hours are wed-sat 12p-6p. artwalk extends operation to 10pm. there are full scale temple installations, international group show, raw food, live art and music. one can become enlightened just by being present. spirituality and atonement are big themes. i witnessed a young man practicing meditation on the stage, ball balancing by another, quirky outfits, tons of energy and amazing detail. i wonder what this place will hold next!
