One of my favorite lunch spots. I usually get the chicken taquitos. Good salsa bar. Beware of the spicy salsa.

Friendly place. I’m a black girl and I thought I’d be treated differently. The salsa bar is pretty, the food is good and reasonably priced.

It’s cheap and accessible. I would recommend for the price and quantity. The only downside is they don’t even give customers water, so you’re forced to buy soda.

Setting a wonderful example for unhealthy habits. They stopped giving water cups and instead force you to buy soda. Quality of food is average. I used to be a frequent visitor here … but with this new policy I am never coming here and going to discourage my friends too from ever eating here. Management please take note … u r setting a very bad example by promoting capitalist soda culture. Positives: employees are really nice

Their Carne Asada Torta is phenomenal! Must try! I ordered mine without hot sauce, then got hot sauce from the salsa bar and drizzled a tiny bit on the torta as I was eating. OMG, It was amazing! I also ordered a plain churro and that was good as well. The place is fairly clean as well, and the staff is friendly too. Will definitely be returning for more later!

The place can be a bit hidden if you are driving by. The food has taste and the prices are not too high. I always order sopes and they never disappoint. The staff is friendly and the waiting time is very short.

4 stars? Really?. First of all, the place looks seriously sad, the colors are sad, some messiness in some chairs and tables make it even more sad. The food is cheap, i give them sad, but here it is, some cheap mexican food. I got the asada fries, the portion is big, filled with the type of frozen fries you get from a groceries’ store, that half-cooked type that just needs to be fried for 5 minutes. So the plate is full of this oily fries, with some cheese on the top scattered with some meat. But mainly, it’s plain frozen-type fries. The churros on the other hand, just made me sad. Something is deeply sad with this place. To be honest, my girlfriend liked it, no idea how and why, i’m never returning back.

Tried this place last week for the first time and I love it! Prices are cheap, the food is authentic and of high quality. So far the carne asada torta I ordered here has been the best I’ve had in LA. Will definitely be back here often.

Great food… You can always expect to savor every bite. A bit spicy though for my children, so always ask for spices on the side if you plan bringing your family.

Seriously impressed by this place, looks like hole in the wall from the outside but it’s pretty okay on the inside. Tacos are amazing good and really cheap

This place is very perfect for me. Its down the block from where I live. It’s open late which means after a night of drinking I can come and stuff myself with Mexican goodness. The employees are also super sweet which makes it all the better to stay and enjoy the meal.

It’s been years seen the last time I came here maybe when I was 15 yup almost 10 years ago. I love the tortas they sell here bomb so dam good so we got some the only thing is that the price when up and also they no longer come with combos(sucks) so I bought 3 tortas and 3 horchatas it came out to be $ 30 something dollars that’s just to much for so little but it is what it is. But next I’m just sticking to the truck across the street.

This place is between a hole-in-the-wall authentic Mexican place and upscale chain: great food AND great service! I used to go to a place on Vermont and Santa Monica called El Gran, which was my go-to place for GOOD burritos, but it was rough aroung the edges and felt a bit sketch(but totally worth). I feel like this place is the perfect replacement since I now will be living closer to USC campus, except it’s actually clean and the service is great. Some places are kinda rude because maybe I don’t speak spanish, but the person I dealt with was lively, helpful, and delivered service with a smile. Even more important, the food quality is top notch. Oh, and I love that they have an open salsa bar cause I stock up on those and it makes the meal 10x better, lol.

Yum yum !! I been coming here for years with my mom usually after going to church for my brother first communion prep at the church across the street. Brought my hubby here over the weekend… We had 4 tacos and 4 mini Mexican hamburgers and 1 horchata drink. Very delicious … The hot sauce is delicious perfect match with the tacos! The drink is 99 cents and if u order in you get to refill as many times as you wish. We only refill once. Thank you can’t wait to come again. Our visit was on November 8, 2015.

I have seen this place throughout the years and I never had the urge to try it out. I thought it was more like tacos and burritos only type of restaurant. It was late and most places were closed already. I checked on Unilocal on places open now. I saw this restaurant was open and it was near by. I looked at their menu on their website and they actually had burgers. They aren’t your typical american burgers, but their still burgers. They also had fries. The carne asada fires got my attention right away. They looked so good on the menu photo. My husband wanted to try the J. R mexican burger and a fish taco. I also wanted to try their guacamole. I arrived and I noticed they have their parking lot, but it’s a one way entrance. I went in the wrong way. Luckily, it was late and there was hardly any cars. They have an entrance in the front and they also have one in the back were the parking lot is at. I entered through the back. The cashier was cleaning up, but when she saw me she went right away to assist me. I was looking at their menu there just in case they had something else. They had the same online menu. She took my order and she recommended I get some salsas while I was waiting. They have about 4 salsas, radish, onions with cilantro and if I recall correctly hot peppers. I noticed they had a sign up that said $ 1 medium drink. Great deal. So I went ahead and ordered one. I got an horchata instead of a soda. The carne asda fries were really good. My husband loved his J. R burger and fish taco. He also stole some of my fries. The guacamole was really good. Downside, they don’t have pico de gallo. I don’t understand how a meixcan restaurant doesn’t have pico de gallo. I really wanted some and the cashier told me they don’t have any. I didn’t really like the horachata either. It was okay. It tasted it a little bit powdery I really liked this restaurant because it was inexpensive and the food was good. They have parking and the customer service was great.

Tacos El Unico is the best discovery near USC yet, with competent, fast working staff, a clean environment, and fresh food that is made to order. I come here at least once a week because its so versatile for meals. Breakfast? Get the breakfast torta with your choice of meat. It’s basically a burger with a fried egg, guac, beans, and meat for around $ 5 and its perfectly filling. Lunch? I actually love the mini mexican or normal size mexicans which are also a burger type with mayo, chopped lettuce, cheese, your choice of meat(I usually go for carne asada). This is so delicious I’d honestly say its like a mini in-n-out burger, so flavorful and not dry at all. This place is also open super late and on fridays and saturdays until 3am! The tacos are great and you can ask for them with no condiments so you can put them on as you please on the full bar filled with green and red sauce, onions, cilantro, and limes! I’ve yet to see it lacking any of the items. It is always fully stocked and super organized with togo sauce containers and plastic bags, SO thoughtful! The service is always good. My roommate is vegan and asked if their beans are made with lard. Normally someone working at these types of places would be 1) rude and annoyed at such a question or 2) be completely unknowledgeable. The woman was patient and went to go ask about the lard content only to come back and say there was none. yay! The woman at the counter is always helpful and understanding when you don’t want tomatoes or onions or cilantro, and she always gets it RIGHT. You can even customize a burrito if you wanted to, as I did once when I wanted a purely bean, rice, and cheese burrito, which is not on their official menu. Come here for a slightly more expensive meal than your regular taco truck, BUT a nice place to sit, full bar, and extremely helpful and competent staff. Also helps that they have wonderful caramel and crème filled churros for dessert or if ice cream is more of your thing, baskin robbins is next door. Love tacos el unico so much!

My two favorite items from this place are the Carne Asada fries and the Chorizo Torta. Both have their flaws, but are still extremely delicious. The biggest disappointment for the Carne Asada fries, imo, is that it doesn’t come with guac. But what they lack for, they make up in portion size. Honestly, this can last you two whole meals. It’s gigantic. And to the side, you can add all the ketchup, salsa, cilantro, jalapenos, and onions that you want. Load up to your heart’s content. You can also pay an additional 0.95 or 1.45 for a small or large portion of guac. It does bring your total to almost $ 10, but $ 5 a meal isn’t too bad. The torta is about $ 3 or 4, and I think you can add a coffee for like 50 cents. I don’t remember specifics because I don’t drink coffee. It’s very good and comes with avocado, if you’re someone who likes it. It’s super filling and well worth the price.
